I delivered a copy of the The Clinton Legacy Cookbook to the daughter of a FReeper who put it on a list of things that he wanted for Christmas. It just so happened that we were both in Houston so what the heck I took it to her instead of sending it through the mail. All she said was "WOW, you people on FReeRepublic are real people".

I love this story. :-)

Hey, I resemble that remark. :-)

My relatives wouldn't dare give me a leftist book, they know me too well. They know that I would use it as a research project to undermine the world socialist agenda even further and would be sending them quotations at the most unfortunant times.

It's a goodie. And I wouldn't say that about all my books (some, I would tell people to stay away from!) But this is as "un-PC" as you can get---yet 100% accurate.

In addition to the 3 Thomas Sowell books (Quest for Cosmic Justice, Barbarians Inside the Gates, and Conquests & Cultures) I got a $20 gift card to Barnes & Nobles. Any recommendations on what I should use it on?

"At All Cost" by Bill Sammon is an excellent book both for the political fencestraddler in the family and the idiot Demwit who keeps implying that Bush is an illegitimate president. It's out in paperback now.

Any liberal relatives I have are smart enough to keep it to themselves and even my liberal friends (both of them) knoq better than to give me liberal political trash.

Have your grandparents and dad always been liberal, or are they merely bustin' your onions??

I guess it could have been worse -- they could have gotten you Hitlery's 'It Takes A Village,' OR fish-wrapping from the trollish Michael Moore.

Liberals are rude. They also are for some reason compelled to state their case to us....

Are they stating their case? My sister, who moved to DC and became a flaming liberal, states her opinion - but doesn't know any facts to support her case. My experience is they state their positions, waiting to flame (or leave in angry silence) if you disagree.

My sister (today) brought up the ruling on Lee Malvo, saying she was so glad the jury didn't go for the death penalty because he was sooo young and sooo influenced by the older man, and besides she doesn't support the death penalty under any circumstances. My husband said 'but what about abortion, that's killing the innocent'. She replied that it had to do with when the soul enters the body... I said "some people believe that happens at conception, others don't think it happens till age 2 or 3". She changed the subject, of course. At least she didn't get mad and leave the room, as she's prone to do after SHE brings up a controversial subject and someone DARES to disagree. She makes more $$$ than the rest of us, hangs around with elitists, and seems to think that makes her opinions superior to our rural country opinions. Oh well, for the most part we remain polite.

Just back from a lovely family gathering. The brother-in-law who wore an anti-war button to the Easter dinner showed up wearing----get ready for this----a Dennis Kucinich t-shirt, with a blazer over it. But the lettering was BIG and not subtle. When he arrived I whispered "oh, brother!" to my husband (we were on the far side of the room and I was discreet). I am happy to report that conversation throughout the evening was free of politics, except for the living billboard.
