US attorney general fined for breaking law

John Ashcroft, the US attorney general, has been fined £21,000 for breaking election laws during his defeat by a dead rival for a seat in the Senate.
During his unsuccessful campaign in 2000, America's top lawman illegally accepted £62,700 from a body set up to support a run for the presidency, the Federal Election Commission found.

John Ashcroft
A controversial, deeply religious figure, Mr Ashcroft was standing for re-election as a senator from Missouri. Humiliatingly, he was beaten by an opponent who died in a plane crash before polling day.
His rival's widow, Jean Carnahan, was later awarded the seat. One dissenting Democrat member of the FEC protested against the size of the fine, calling it "so low that I do not believe it adequately reflects the severity of the conduct at issue".
However, two Republicans on the commission described the offence as "a garden-variety complaint . . . blown far out of proportion".
Mr Ashcroft's Senate campaign fell foul of the law by using a mailing list compiled by a committee to explore a bid for the White House. The resulting contributions exceeded the legal limit and, to make matters worse, his campaign failed to disclose them.

I guess if Ashcroft hadn't cheated,
then the dead man would have been able to really whip his ass.

I was surprised to hear Judge Napalotano (sp?) on FNC yesterday saying it was the first time that he could remember that a sitting Justice Department head had been fined for anything. That's includes Janet Reno, who skated on every illegal thing she did.

Who do you think is a greater danger to public safety, and should more deservedly be locked up:
1.A chief law enforcement officer, fined for violations of federal election law, laws he is supposed to be enforcing,
OR,
2. a semiretired movie actor who makes glassware?,
No children, honestly, it is *NOT* a trick question.

There is more to this than meets the eye. Ashcroft lost to the media and left poll games. The majority of our Government representatives (both parties)probably deserve to pay fines.

Why did Ashcroft get fined?
When Clinton took millions of illegal money from Riady and China all he had to do was give it back..

Pretty incredible distortion of facts. Ashcroft was not personally fined - his campaign organization was.

Oh my goodness. A $37,000 fine to his campaign committee for accepting $110,000 in contributions that were not permissible.
Ashcroft himself was not fined.
None of this will matter, since the newspapers can't wait to make front page news out of this.

RJ's been pissed for three years that Ashcroft won't prosecute the entire Clinton administration. He relishes reliving the eight years of Clinton, and thinks the Bush administration, instead of fighting a war on terror, ought to devote considerable time to dragging the country through Clinton sleaze, all over again.
It's nuts, I know, but that's what's sticks in RJ's craw.
Right, RJ?

Speaking of Clinton sleeze, last night, channel surfing and what did I come across? E! channel - and they profiled that trail of sleeze. I would watch a few minutes, get disgusted and turn the channel.
But I would go back. Unbelievable. Actually the first time I have seen anything that chronicled the time line and had the players talking.
And I kept asking myself - over and over again - how did America let this pile of sh!t get away with it?????
Truly, a sickening thing to watch unfold.
Then to listen to the be-otch Hildabeast's comments lately.
No wonder it took me longer than usual to go to sleep last night.

I'm flattered you have been paying attention to my comments!
Yes, it's quite true, I am hung up on the justice thing.
I do not believe someone who professes to be sooooo devout as Ashcroft does could not seek justice in so many examples of government corruption. Yet, as you know from paying such close attention to my comments, he has shown no interest, none at all, in government corruption.
Isn't there something about 'Thou shalt not...' I have heard somewhere or other? Didn't he promise to God to do his job as the chief law enforcement officer of the country?
Yes, I would say he clearly is a sanctimonious fraud.
Thanks again for your attention.
Regards....
