Of -course-. Trust me, you won't find too many people as hard-core anti-communist as me. It scares me though. What's really bizarre is there -are- people in Iraq who are cooperating with and seem quite pro-U.S. who... for lack of a better phrase, "have contacts" with the Iraq CP.

For example, the big demonstration in Iraq that we talked about for days and how the media was covering it up? That was partly organized by the Iraqi CP.

That whole story was broken by an Iraqi blogger named Zeyad. He seems to be pretty pro-U.S. Note this passage in the blog:

"Anyway, Dr. Ali, Omar's brother, contacted someone from the Communist party, and they informed him that the demos would be on 10 December if everything went right, otherwise they would be on the 15th."

Among other passages of note I've seen is this, concerning Bush's visit on Thanksgiving:

"I have mixed feelings myself. The fact that he is the first American president to set foot on Iraqi soil is a huge event in itself, and a three hour visit to Baghdad Airport definitely wouldn't be the same as a tour in the country and most importantly meeting Iraqi citizens, Iraqis who would be grateful for this visit. But I understand the security considerations and this gesture alone would be sufficient to send a message to whoever it may concern that Iraq is safe enough for an American president to visit. To tell the truth I'm still shocked to this moment that he took the risk to come here. I used to like him before, but now I admire the guy."

There was also an Iraqi blog I was reading recently that talked about how Bush would be the heroes of Iraqis forever when he caught Saddam. Given how hugely relevant that is today I'm still digging and trying to find it.

What bugs me is how many seem to be distinguishing between Baathists and Communists. I don't think there's a whole lot of distinction to be made. I hope they realize that Communists will only be pro-democracy until they win their first election.

I hope he means it about being a hero. I fear he's wrong about not having to search for WMD anymore - this will of course change nothing in the eyes of leftists, who will continue to screech that capturing Saddam means nothing, only WMD matter. I do note with pleasure that he was wrong about having to up the reward ;)

Heh. I actually recommend spreading some truth. I'm thinking about writing a serious essay to post to that thread to any Iraqi fencesitters who visit that site, on just how glad Cubans who supported the Cuban Communist Party are today.

Actually, I have to retract that, I'm repeating a bogus version of history. The majority of the Cuban population had no idea that Castro was Communist when Baptista was overthrown and he came into power. They would never have supported him if they'd known. Believe it or not, he waged the revolution on a pro-U.S. platform. Cubans were slowly woken up to the fact that Castro (and now Cuba) was communist and pro-Soviet between 1959 and 1961.
