I have emailed Chris's widow and asked her if we could arrange to have some flowers sent in honor of our FRiend. (fyi)

I offer my sympathies to his family. I lost my mom two years ago and it is a difficult obstacle to overcome. Even at 40, I found I could still be that lost little boy in the store, suddenly finding himself alone, mother nowhere in sight.

There is a drawing toward that which we do not know, away from that which we know so well.

Oh my goodness. I am truly sorry to hear of this.

My thoughts and prayers to TILH and family.

So sad, my condolences to the family.

I am particularly sorry to hear that a fellow Freeper was in such despair and we could not do more to help. I think that it's important to remember that as Freepers we need to maintain a positive attitude and encourage one another to ward off the negativity that is spread from the left.

I, too lost my mom in August of 2002. That was the time when Chris and I started communicating. He was still very uncomfortable about the loss of his Mom, and we exchanged many emails on that topic. And you're right, it doesn't matter your age; I just turned 58 (argh!) and I miss Mom as if I were 4 or 5 at times.

This is going to be hard for me, very hard indeed. But...sigh...I realized that I was wrong about the war today. We never, ever, should have invaded Iraq.
So why did I back the war for so long? Well, I have to admit that I was seduced by the logical and reasoned arguments for going to war. After all, the only hope we have of preventing future 9/11s and worse, much, much worse, is to go after not only the terrorist groups with global reach, but the rogue states that back them.
By taking out Saddam, we not only struck against an anti-American, mass grave filling thug who either had or would have reconstituted his WMD, but we knocked out a tyrant who had direct ties to Al-Qaeda. What pictures you say? The pictures from the protests in Britain that I got from UK Indymedia. Now I know what you're probably thinking, "Come on Hawkins, those people are a big bunch of 'useful idiots' for Saddam and the terrorists!". Sure, that's true, but you have to set aside logic, facts, and common sense and just look at the pictures. Let me give you some examples. Here are 3 pictures, all followed by what each pic said to me...when I let them into my heart!!!!!!!

"Our pink tank filled with children will stop terrorism!"

"Our facepaint and puckish attire proves we're right about laying down for terrorists!"

"Mindless slogans and street theater will make the world safe from Al-Qaeda!"
So you see? It's like Richard Gere said,
"In a situation like this, of course you identify with everyone who's suffering. (But we must also think about) the terrorists who are creating such horrible future lives for themselves because of the negativity of this karma. It's all of our jobs to keep our minds as expansive as possible. If you can see (the terrorists) as a relative who's dangerously sick and we have to give them medicine, and the medicine is love and compassion. There's nothing better."
That's right folks, maybe if we Americans weren't so concerned with building democracies in long suffering countries and stopping terrorists who want to murder all of us, we'd take the time to give a little love to the terrorists and Saddam Hussein. That's what the protestors taught me folks & I hope you can learn from them too.....

Hey, I was making a joke too...didn't know you disliked Wal-Mart.
I was talking strictly about the shopping experience. I understand WHY it is the way it is -- narrow aisles, lots of people, it just doesn't appeal to me personally. I find Target to be a less stressful experience (and I realize that they're a different segment of the market). My point was that I wasn't commenting at all about whether Wal Mart was a bad/unethical/monopolistic business, and I STILL got slammed, as though it were my duty to like Wal Mart on principle alone, even if I didn't appreciate their physical implementation. For some reason Wal Mart causes even conservatives to choose sides and insult each other.

Serve when called for Jury duty.
I've only been called once. It was for a civil case. I waited in the room with the other potential jurors all day, watching nearly everyone else get called in to be interviewed. Finally, someone came in and said they had finished selecting jurors and we were dismissed. It ended up being a waste of my time, but it beat going to work. Fortunately I brought a book to read.

Women jurors are a joke.
I wouldn't go that far. I'd say arguments from emotion have no place within a jury's deliberations. Women TEND to make these arguments more than men, in my experience.
Emotion has a place in the world -- it would be a dull world without it. And certainly jurors feel emotions when they listen to testimony. But a jury needs to consider evidence and the law, period. The voir dire process, in theory, should winnow these people out, but I don't have the highest confidence in voir dire. Look how well that worked for O.J.
I couldn't believe that any person in their right mind truly had a REASONABLE doubt that O.J. was guilty. I was stunned at the verdict, as I'm sure many Freepers were. Maybe that's why I read Ann Rule true crime books. She picks cases where the bad guy gets caught and punished, and where the police and prosecutors are the GOOD guys. I can't wait for her book on the Green River Killer. It probably won't come out for a year or two, however.

It seems to me that cabbies have the right (maybe even a duty) to not pick up people who don't look 'right'. This guy was merely explaining one of his criteria. He probably won't pick up people who look like drug addicts, criminals, or homeless, either.
It's no different from hitchhiking (forgetting for the moment that it's usually illegal). If you want to get a ride, you have better luck if you look wholesome and nonthreatening.
I'd bet he'd pick up gay people if they acted like regular human beings for the duration of the cab ride. And I'm sure he HAS done so.
I don't see the problem. Maybe the guy should have kept his mouth shut about his criteria. But I don't hold the fact that he HAS such criteria against him. Everyone is entitled to protect themselves from situations that look like trouble.
Just my opinion.

My first wife swore I would talk Japanese and Russian in my sleep. I know how to count in Japanese (well, in a rudimentary fashion), but I don't speak the language. And I know maybe a half-dozen Russian words. It's unlikely I learned the languages without knowing about it, so perhaps I was speaking gibberish in those two accents.
My guess is that there is a part of the brain used to normalize different accents into recognizable speech, and this woman's stroke somehow linked this ability with her own speech.

This guy is not impressive. This could be his biggest case ever and her should treat it like it is and not cavalerly.
I disagree. He seems like a guy who will do what needs to be done, no more, no less. I distrust those who act like it's the case of their lives -- they seem more interested in a conviction to boost their career, rather than because it's the right thing to do. There was an article in "The Onion" a year or two back. It was about a woman who finally succeeded in 'domesticating' her wild boyfriend, and then she expressed dissatisfaction with him, and started lusting after his still-wild friend. As Homer Simpson says, "It's funny because it't true."

In fact, I'm quite unhappy about the FAGACHUSSETTS ruling.
It wouldn't surprise me if people start vandalizing road signs, blotting out or otherwise obscuring the first letter in "Massachussetts". Not that I advocate any such thing -- it's juvenile and criminal. I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me.

Exactly, the negativity that I have been observing everywhere is beginning to get to me, too. I am tired of angry news and talk show commentators, I am tired of angry Rap stars, angry movie stars, angry Hispainics, angry unionists and angry leftists, and sometimes angry Freepers. I seems that all these people do is yell, and all they are all caught up in their own self interests.

TrappedInLiberalHell was one of our young Connecticut FReepers. Have you ever met him? I don't recall meeting him, but he may have attended one of our rallies(?)

I'm just so saddened by this news... :-(

His WAS a freeper name that stood out...

And I liked to click on his posts when his name popped up in the "most recent" section... I liked his sense of humor and his measured rationality and his various observations on current affairs. I thought he was a very interesting person.

His depressive tendencies would reveal on occassion, I can remember in particular one thread about women not having children, his comments were very sad and dark and he was adamant about not wanting to pass on certain genetic or epigenetic frailties to another generation.

I confess I think I understand him better, now that I am facing the prospect that I perhaps have passed on a mitochondrial mutation that could cost my son his eyesight.

I thought it wasn't my place then to try and cajole him out of a dark place. That won't happen again. Next time I will make contact and talk to a person I can see is troubled by depression.

God keep him safe in your arms.

Thanks for rounding up Chris' recent posts. He was very clever and quick with a pun.

I understood his reticence about having children, given some very serious genetic diseases in his family.

I also remember how he mesmerized my three "grand kids," ages 9, 9, and 3 for about an hour on the lawn with a soccer ball. The four of them were all on the same level for that time and the kids loved him.

I've had many conversations with Chris (aka "TrappedInLiberalHell), and he was always thoughtful, interesting, polite. .....And he possessed a wicked wit. Got to know him best on the baseball playoff threads this year.

God bless him and his family, and may he rest in peace.

A former FRiend sent me this a while back. e e cummings summarized it pretty well in this, I think:

I was just looking through some of his posts and it made me recall literally laughing out loud at some of his humor.

I remember him as well, for being so sharp-witted. He often seemed exasperated with the world, and the name sure fit his posts. I thought his screen name was great, because it sure summed up the frustration of many. What a tragic, horrible shame. :-(

What happened?

For one thing he was trapped in liberal hell. That's just about enough, isn't it?

I think we sort of lose our places in the universe when parents die. The deepest grief I've ever felt was when my mom died very unexpectedly. A real eye-opener as to how those processes effect us in every way and in every single interaction.

I'm sorry, but since cause of death has not been stated, this leaves the reader to the conclusion that he committed suicide...even though I have to admit that due to the treasonous actions of some who have destroyed our once great country has brought the thought of "checking-out" a few times myself.

He and I never really posted to each other - just passing in threads.

But like so many his presence was felt every time he hit 'post'. Quick wit, kind heart and smart.

My mom too died suddenly when she was 44 and me 22. I am now 37 and not a day passes where I am not talking to her or thinking of her etc.

This particular grief is so profound to me that all deaths I have endured after have not been as painful and some didnt affect me much at all in comparison to Mom.

I have been able to move on get married have a family and I guess the word is that I ENDURE....life gets easier but that grief remains : (

Anyway very sad day for freepers and I liked the one sentiment a freeper left that we ought pry a bit more if we sense someone is hurting. Not just here but in our real lives where we interact with others in person.

Perhaps Mrs. Trapped would rather we help a family in need rather then waste money on flowers..just a suggestion but there are probably some very needy families in their area and it would give Mrs. Trapped something to do during this holiday season. We can donate and she can adopt the family, do the shopping and feel good that she is helping someone in need.

I have a son that turned 28 yesterday and he has been quite depressed lately.

A lot of folks get very depressed around this time of the year, especially if their year wasn't a good one. There's a lot of wisdom in the words "this too, shall pass."

I have purposely not addressed the cause of death because frankly I'm not positive that it WAS suicide. I, too suspect that to be the case, but really feel it's rather irrelevant.

To Chris's wife:

I just lost someone very special to me as well, and I know how confused and heartbroken such an event can leave you. It sounds like our circumstances were different, but the suddenness is what really throws you. Now there are a million things that need to be done and so many people to talk to when all you want to do is disappear for the rest of your life and not deal with any of it.

The best advice I've been given is to just let yourself go through whatever types of emotions you're having, and if family and friends offer help, TAKE IT. Don't feel any guilt about not calling people back; you'll get around to it. Give yourself a chance to regroup.

And always remember that God will be with you, and that He will take care of you. Chris is in a place where there are no worries, as is my husband - I envy them both, in a way. Now they know everything. We'll see them again someday.

It was just that your tone seems to imply a that sad possibility...loosing intelligent, caring patriotic people is never easy, especially during the holidays.

He was born 2 days before my son. What a tragedy!!

I wonder if there were exterior forces upon him like financial trouble.

It is irrelevant - except to to say that some may feel that an important opportunity was lost. Sometimes we need to know that there was nothing we could do.

We need to never take for granted we will "find" our favorite or worse nightmare FReeper posters. Many just disappear. We are fortunate to have gotten the information.

How true. Every day, on boards of all stripes - not just FR - people simply stop posting, and nobody ever realizes why.

Far more sadly, often nobody ever even notices they're gone. It's a mark of TILH's standing here that his "disappearance" was noted and explained almost immediately.

This sucks. Horrible horrible news. We were just talking like 3 weeks ago about sharing a similar age and our fascination about the number 4 and everything going on with it.

I don't know what to say. This is just horrible news. Prayers going up for family and Chris.
