Ok, I watch "Becker". Last night's situation involved NY city closing some sort of "house" where mental patients were kept - the former inmates are now overruning Becker's office and his g/friend's diner. So, he goes to see a city official who complains that he cannot do anything about this because the, "Federal government cut funding to the city because they chose to cut taxes which seems to be the only thing people care about any more, etc." In short, the point was that because the feds have cut taxes the (trickled down) outcome was to put mental patients on the street.
This is not the first time I've noticed this kind of drivel on this show, on one other occasion, Becker told a teenager who was having sex without using a condom that such stupidity was normal only among "lower primates and Republicans..."
I'm not going to watch this show anymore.

Is this kind of stuff normal on sitcoms? I don't watch too many American sitcoms; I'm a Britcoms fan.

I was watching that last night and that scene made me change channels, as well as yell "You f*cking losers" at the screen.

no it was a jab, but who cares.
homeless people dont vote.. ok uncalled for
When times are tuff like they are there are cut backs. Maybe we should be angry at their families for turning them over to the state and expecting the state to take care of them.

It's pretty typical. When I hear a remark like that, I just quit watching the show. I don't know when these idiots are going to find out that they're biting the hand that feeds them.

The idiot Danson told us around 1998 that the world would be destroyed by the year 2000 or some such crap. Avoid him. People like him will make you stupid. I'm convinced that too much exposure to the Danson's of the world can be contagious.

Garbage on TV? I'm shocked. Why are you wasting your time building ratings for CBS?
To: rpage3
I wouldn't know if this is normal on sitcoms. I don't waste my time on network TV. You shouldn't either.
To: rpage3
Put down the remote and back away.

I only watched some the first year. When he and his wife supported clintoon, I quit watching.
Everything is so PC, or supports/has gay characters, I only watch Third Watch and Threat Matrix now. ..... OK, I still watch Friends.

"It's pretty typical." Actually, sitcoms as a rule steer pretty clear of political jokes - bidness decision. Why alienate half your audience?
A sitcom with Theo Danson in it would be the exception.

Depends on the sitcom. I've heard that one with Whoopi Goldberg is bad as far as spouting left-leaning drivel.
I watched Becker one time. It was so bad and the character so annoying I never watched it again. I'm thankful I missed that little political statement.

To: rpage3
Someone out there looking for a moral in a TV sit com? Many you do need to get out more... Sit coms exist to simply create an outrageous and unrealistic situation to prime the pump for what are largely low brow jokes.....
Some people are just wound way way way too tight around here.
To: rpage3
I happened to walk by the TV when I saw this scene and I was totally shocked that CBS would let this type of politically motivated garbage be allowed into their comedy...

Actually, sitcoms as a rule steer pretty clear of political jokes - bidness decision. Why alienate half your audience? That's the thing with some of these sitcoms. Some are funny as hell and suck you in, then.....they throw in something to tick me off.
For example remember "Designing Women"? A fluffy little sitcom on the outside, however, Bloodworth-Thomlason was constantly getting in liberal jabs. I remember watching a rerun where they were actually talking about Bill Clinton when he was still governor and getting ready to run for president. I hadn't even heard of him at that point. (The good ole days.)
I actually watch alot of TVLand. You can't go wrong with a Leave it to Beaver rerun.

On a brighter note, did anybody catch South Park last night? I don't know if it was a repeat or not, but it was the first time I'd seen it.
They absolutely relentlessly skewered Rob Reiner and the smoke nazis in general. It was thoroughly vicious, cutting and wonderful. I really hope that pompous fat-ass Reiner sat through the whole thing. It was a liberal-bashing, libertarian home run.

See, I think you miss the point, when this sort of stuff happens on a show with Danson in it (or any show with an actor who is a known and vocal activist), you know it's agenda driven and propaganda....

I watched a couple early episodes of Becker. His character reminded me of Basil Fawlty (Fawlty Towers), but with none of John Cleese's talent. Haven't watched since.

Look, TV has been turned into a liberal indoctrination tool. Don't watch it. If you must watch TV tune into FOX or HGTV.

CBS just ran a rerun of "CSI: Miami" which was quite a hoot. Two young women were killed by the sons of a tyrannical ally of the United States. The premise of the show was that the two debaucherous playboys, who looked and acted just like Uday and Quasay Hussein, were given full diplomatic immunity because their father's country was torturing terror suspects for the administration, and the U.S. State department would not allow these nasty people to be brought to justice for fear of losing this fictional dictator's "cooperation". The clever detective team determined via forensic contrivance that the one victim died at the Canadian embassy, so arranged the capture of one son by Canada (a truly enlightened land) when their pleasure boat strayed into international waters.
Thank goodness for CBS! After seeing this show, I realized how truly evil our nation had become- President Kucinich will never allow this to happen! I'm going to join the Department of PEACE!
To: rpage3
I don't watch Becker but I've seen political statements of late on a couple of weekly TV shows. For one, the attorney show that stars Dabny Coleman had a segment that emphasized how bad guns are and that there needs to be more control. Up to that point I enjoyed watching that show, but no longer. Obviously the Hollywood (media) message is "Pro American Christians Conservatives are bad, mean and selfish, Anti American Establishment Liberals are good, compassionet and giving." It appears that the belief of personal responsibility is very scarce in Hollywood.

On a brighter note, did anybody catch South Park last night?Yeah, there's a separate thread on this. Funny stuff! Southpark is the best kept secret on tv for honesty when it comes to drilling all the PC crap. Their take on Babs is priceless!

I'm not going to watch this show anymore.I think folks are getting too uptight about comments like make on "Becker." Come on, people lighten up - it's a sitcom! I think it's really a funny show - one of the few I watch. Most of their material is well written and Danson does better in this role than he did on "Cheers" IMO.
BTW reruns are on WGN Chicago and the early shows are better than the later ones.
