"the outlines of Bush’s election strategy are coming into focus."

Bad news for you, Eleanor. He has countless strategies, and they're constantly changing. That's what you call a brilliant strategist.

And that's not all about the President that is brilliant.

Every bothered to wonder why he's always so "lucky"? It's not luck. It's genius.

One strategy that never fails is to dupe his adversaries into thinking that he's less clever than he is. His adversaries never seem to understand how he consistently dances circles around them. He encourages them to believe their own propaganda, and it works every time. They never catch on.

Just as Bush cannot fully control what happens on the ground in Iraq, he can’t be certain how his legislative centerpiece of Medicare expansion will be received here at home as seniors learn more about what’s in the bill. It does nothing to make prescription drugs cheaper or more available, and it bans drug re-importation from Canada by requiring the Secretary of Health and Human Services to guarantee the drugs are safe, a standard everybody knows cannot be met.

... because, G-d alone knows, the one thing the little people out there in flyover country aren't entitled to nowadys is the reasonable expectation of safety, when taking medically prescribed drugs, Ellen. [::rolls eyes::]

Who dresses this imbecile in the morning? How does she even find food for pity's sake...? :)

I think when you're husband has kidney cancer, you're entitled to a few bouts of humanity.
Even if your name is Eleanor Clift.

This is for those Civil War buff Freepers: I know that Lincoln went to Richmond (with son Tad) two weeks before he was assassinated, and the story goes that he stuck his head up over the edge of an earthwork and was pulled down by a Union officer. For the life of me, I can't remember who that officer was. I know it was someone whose name is well-known. Can anyone help me with this loss of memory?

But how many American presidents have been on a plane being landed in total darkness?

How many would do it while in the cockpit, as President Bush did?

Maybe you don't think it Bondian because servicemen do it, but to we civilians it is very dramatic sounding and it IS a risk.

I can't believe Clift wrote the portion that is posted, it is so complimentary. I'm not clicking to read the rest, but I think she did a good job with this column (unless she shifts gears in a part not posted). But for writing this column praising what President Bush did I don't think she deserved to be called an imbecile or an idiot. And believe me, I've had PLENTY of complaints about her 99% of the other times her name has crossed my radar.

Did you miss this in the first paragraph?

Bush's genuinely emotional thanking of the troops...

Paul, I usually agree with you, but I did not read the portion posted at all as complaining, but rather admiration.

That's how it reads.

I don't give Eleanor a whole lot of credit. I think she'll join in on the bashing, though maybe not as blatantly as others.

"They never catch on."

But they get better and better at pounding sand -- while George Bush looks and acts more and more presidential. After 8 long years of stained blue dresses and missiles launched at camels and aspirin factories, no amount of media revisionism can make a pig like Bill Clinton look the least bit presidential.

"Uh, wasn't that Oliver Wendell Holmes who did that?"

I think you might be right. I knew it was someone well known, but all that would come into my old brain was Francis Channing Barlow. Those damn three syllable names get us old folks. Thanks.

Oh, she'll join without a doubt. But when she actually says some nice things about President Bush and some here are calling her stupid for it, it's kind of silly. (Not you in particular.

David Gregory on MSNBC has also sounded kind of excited that President Bush would do this. I figure he's susceptible to having an "attitude adjustment" from his peers, too.

and makes it harder to belittle the president's commitment to Iraq.

The question then becomes, WHY are you belittleing his commitment to Iraq?
Patriotic dissent or partizan power grab cloaked in patriotic dissent.

(not you but liberals in general)
