[history]
Nov. 24 (Bloomberg) -- BP Plc expects that the revolution in Georgia will have no bearing on a planned $3.6 billion oil pipeline that crosses the country, said Chief Executive Officer Lord Browne.
A BP-led group is building a 1 million barrel-a-day capacity pipeline from Baku, Azerbaijan, that will cross Georgia and Turkey, ending at Ceyhan, on the Mediterranean Sea.

The UK Guardian has some interesting articles. In sum, "Shevvy" was turning into a Russian stooge to preserve his own power. The US helped the revolution by, of all things, providing knowledge about poll watchers and such to give the electoral fraud claims evidence and credence.
I'll assume the Brits were involved too, but these Brit newspapers like to play the US as the sole actor in the world...

when you think about it, this is even more interesting than the Great Upset's having the least little effect whatsoever.

A lot depends on how much of a stake the Saudis have in the project. If the "pampered princes" can dip their ever-thirsty beaks, there probably won't be too much terrorism trouble.

"Shevvy" was turning into a Russian stooge to preserve his own power. I always suspected Saudi influence, since supplies and volunteers to Chechnya seemed to be able to flow through Georgia with out much trouble, and supposedly some Saudi Al Qaedists passed through Georgia on their way to more hospitable lodgings elsewhere.
And you remember that after months of training by our Green Berets the Georgians never ejected the Al Qaeda bandits supposedly hiding in the Pankisi, nor did they allow the Russians to do it either. There was one foray, if I remember, announced in advance, that found nothing and no one.
I pegged Shev as the recipient of Saudi largesse. That puts him in good company, of course.
