Why not let them drive to work with a real drivers license?

Then let them drive with their Mexican drivers licenses. They do here --- just like you can use your American drivers license to drive in Mexico. It's interesting that's not what they're demanding --- and there are reasons for that. You can use a US drivers license to cross the border --- that's all the border agents ask to see -- if they ask for anything.

"Undocumented=criminal

...so document them."

Reward certain criminals based on their skin color or national origin.

"How many terrorist were Mexican migrant workers?"
Have you seen those "La Raza and Azetlan" groups lately ?
They appear to be just warming up

"Wasn't it our President Reagan, who gave amnesty to these people?"
Yep- dumb move...

"Don't get me wrong, middle eastern muslims need not apply!"
Now that's a racist attitude , isn't it ?

...so document them.

So anyone from any where who makes it over the border or unto any of our shores has a right to be made legal? If boat loads of thousands of Haitians or Chinese make it over the passengers must be documented? If everyone from every poor third world country can get here, they are entitled to a job or generous welfare benefits?

Probably the only thing we can do so we won't be called racist is just hand out citizenship papers to the entire world. Everyone from Africa, India, Europe, South America, Asia --- anywhere else is entitled to US citizenship. Let the whole world just leave their own countries a big mess and just come over here. We'll squeeze them all in.

Here's a better solution for California --- you'll still be called racists if you try to demand a drivers test of any kind to people who come here illiterate and unable to read signs in English or who don't understand mph because they come from a country which uses kilometers instead. They can't possibly afford auto insurance because so many already need food stamps and have to wire money back to Mexico --- just get rid of drivers licenses and auto insurance altogether for California.

State Sen. McClintock got the ball rolling for the SB 60 referendum with the CRA, which supported him for governor.

He has done his part. Does he have to work and campaign full out for everything he backs?

By the way, why did you ignore the story's last paragraph?

Do you support licenses for illegal aliens?

I take it this really get's under your skin eh? I'm in the construction trade and I can tell you that So California is built largely by undocumented Mexican workers.

Lies, and bull shit. Maybe your friends that want to rewrite history will swallow that BS. Not me.

California was built *long* before this epic invasion of criminal illegals ever began. DOH!

Hundreds of beautifully designed track homes that were built in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s and were built largely by talented, educated American citizens in the construction trade.

After WWII thousands of Americans went into the construction trade and literally built America.

The high rises in our cities were built by talented American engineers and American unions that employed American citizens.

Thank God for this that America wasn't built by a bunch of uneducated laborers from a third world country, that are in our country illegally.

Now we have thousands of illegals doing shoddy jobs in the service industry, roofing homes, tenting homes for termites, (while stealing the home owner possessions when they are gone) laying carpet, illegals mowing lawns, flipping burgers etc.....

So illegals built California huh? What a pack of absolute freaking lies!

Hi folks,
I read all the interesting comments made here following the article concerning the efforts to repeal SB-60, the law which will allow qualified undocumented residents to drive in a legal manner. Only the comments made by "dagoofyfoot" made sense and were sound.
I was disturbed by the amount of hatred presented here against immigrants and against those of us who are different. I do not think people know or want to know why these people you fight against are considered "illegal" or "undocumented." Nor do you realize the difference between the "illegals" and the "legals" which at times could even run within one family. If you think anyone enjoys being "illegal" you got to be kidding. Our country, which as we all know, was established because and thanks to immigration (after all only the Native Americans are the true owners of this country) simply wont give these people any legal channel to become legal residents of the USA. So even if they wanted and went back to their homelands, they would never ever become legal in the USA!!! This is clearly a fact you choose to IGNORE!!! You make it seem like it is so easy to immigrate to the USA. After all, why should you care? You don't have to deal with all the problems those poor people have thanks to people like you who push anti-immigration legislation all the time, and finally when this undocumented population has something (SB-60) that can provide some ease and comfort to their already difficult lives you come and snap that away from them in a dictatorship manner (removing a law which received a majority vote before it is even implemented.) Some individuals mentioned the Mexican workers and how they don't deserve any rights, forgetting to mention that once California was part of Mexico!!! I'm not saying we need to give back this territory as the Israelis are asked to do by the Arabs and Europeans, but at least give them some basic human rights and protect the lives of all Californians who face unlicensed and uninsured motorists in our streets and highways. Our State could even earn more money from this by forcing every person who wish to issue a license to register with an insurance agency and pay his or her dues. Can you imagine what 2-3 Million people paying insurance could mean to us all??? Our economy needs that!!! Why be so negative and anti anything simply because it was presented by someone who was not Republican or is pro-immigration rights? Are we so blind that we simply oppose anything that was not presented by people like us??? Where is your own personal values and opinions? Why do you want to be responsible for making the lives of so many people a living hell when they have not harmed you in any way??? The "security risk" you all talk about is another ridiculous joke. WAKE UP AMERICA!!! The real security risk is our lack of security and the fact that only airports and maybe concerts and sports games with high ranking officials present in the audience are well secured (look at Great Britain during the current Bush visit.) All the rest are wide-open to anyone whether they have a California Driver's License or not. Do you think that homicide bombers who blowup innocent Israelis or Americans overseas has an Israeli or some other local driver's license from the countries where they commit their evil crimes? What's wrong with you? Instead of spreading lies that somehow giving the immigrants licenses is a danger to US security in the wake of the 9-11 terrorist attacks I suggest you urge our government to check bags and not tags of people who enter crowded places. That is the only way to bring about a true sense of security. Do you really think that someone without a California License can't cause harm??? Are you THAT stupid or what? Finally, the whole battle against SB-60 is ridiculous and shows that those fighting it has nothing better to do in their miserable lives. It's not like we are giving them free money or jobs. All they will get is the ability to drive AFTER they go through the very same process everyone else has to go through. That means passing a theory exam as well as a practical exam. It also means insurance (and we can reinforce that and revoke the license for those who drive without insurance.) So why be so negative when it does not harm you personally? I know why, it helps other people that you hate (and probably don't even know) so you got to fight it as hard as you can, stealing their American dream, without caring what it will do to their hopes cause you got yours taken care of. You don't have problems enslaving the Mexicans but giving them a license to drive is the most horrible thing on the face of the earth, right? Your comments surly express your unjustified fear and outrage over SB60. My fellow friends, I'm afraid we got worst problems than that. Why don't you worry about our budget crisis or education??? Our nation was built on immigration and it should stay this way whether you like it or not. I suggest we each take a close look at what we stand for and stop the madness of harming others for no good reason simply because it does not fit our "standard political agenda."

Long winded post for someone who just signed up today.

You don't have problems enslaving the Mexicans

I have a problem with you accusing others of promoting slavery. Sending all illegals back to their country of origin is not promoting slavery.

Take your race card to LaRaza where it belongs.

Has hecho un buen trabajo!!!

Yeah....and I don't take them anymore seriously than I do the "Klan". Do you really think they'll "take back" California?...I don't.

I guess I'm a little biased. I'm a white surfer boy who grew up in So California, and have a lot of hispanic friends and neighbors. I love their culture, their food, their genorosity, their sincerety, their country, and their beaches...

I'm well aware there are some bad apples out there, but what group of people don't have some of those?

Maybe your friends that want to rewrite history will swallow that BS. Not me.

I'm not buying it either, Joe.

The problem is that the vast majority of illegals would vote for leftist democrats if given the change. If amnesty is granted, the Conservative vote will be so diluted by the old leftist and their newly arrived allies, the left WILL re-write our history to their liken. Amnesty must be stopped at all cost or the conservative movement will be overwhelmed.

Any republican, conservative, or freeper who supports amnesty is either naive or a troll.

Dear RS:

You know facts are very pesky things. You claim State Sen. McClintock is doing nothing about SB 60. The facts speak for themselves. He and the CRA are running the referendum to overturn SB 60.

Just as I and other McClintock supporters predicted on this website -- governors do not rescind actions of the State Legislature. Here is a release from the McClintock Committee to Stop the Car Tax. It also discusses the issue of SB 60 and the State Assembly is apparently not going to overturn licenses for illegal aliens. (Even if they do, it requires a two-thirds vote to stop the measure from going into effect Jan. 1). The only thing stopping SB 60 now is the referendum run by the CRA and McClintock.

For people in California who care about this issue, I would suggest they go to www.saveourlicense.com and ask for petitions or just as importantly, send money. There are 300,000 signatures in so far (375,000 needed) and for a cushion, they want to have 400,000-450,000 signatures.

MESSAGE FROM THE STOP THE CAR TAX CAMPAIGN

A Message from the Stop the Car Tax Campaign Director

We have had many inquiries about the status of the Car Tax initiative since Governor Schwarzenegger rescinded the Davis administrations tripling of the tax yesterday.

First, we are going forward with the initiative. The initiative constitutionally prohibits the collection of the vehicle fee by any governor in the future. The repeal does not prohibit collection of the vehicle tax by future administrations. Governor Schwarzeneggar repealed the increase in the VLF. The initiative also defines the difference between fees and taxes constitutionally for the first time. No longer will the legislature be able to call a fee a tax and pass it without a two-thirds vote. Our initiative closes this loophole forever.

Secondly, we are going forward because of actions in the State Assembly last evening. The Assembly convened in a special session called by Governor Schwarzenegger to address SB 60, the illegal alien drivers license bill. Republicans attempted to waive the rules to allow repeal of the driver’s license law immediately. The Democrats refused to even allow debate and driver’s licenses for illegal aliens remain legal.

The legislature has moved further to the far left, and in its first action, it appears that the legislature has not heard the will of the people.

We need to hold their feet to the fire! We need to tie their hands through our constitutional amendment.

Please keep up your good work collecting signatures. Together, we will get rid of the entire car tax once and for all!

Rich Allen
Campaign Director

By the way, RS, do you support licenses for illegal aliens? PLEASE GO BACK AND READ THE LAST GRAPH OF THE AP STORY. Gov. Schwarzenegger's spokesman says he may well support licenses for illegal aliens with stricter security measures. I'm hoping all the Schwarzenegger supporters on this website will have the backbones to take a stand against their political leader if he supports licenses for ILLEGAL (EMPHASIS ADDED) ALIENS.

All the best...

As a note, the last day to request petitions at www.saveourlicense.com is Nov. 21. All petitions and signatures are due in by Nov. 28. I THINK WE ARE GOING TO MAKE IT, but everyone needs to pitch in. The SB 60 referendum would be voted upon in the March 2004 election.

They say if you're in your twenties and you're not a liberal, you have no heart. If you're in your forties and you're not a conservative you have no brain...

You, Sir, don't appear to have either....

So why don't you just grab a jug of moonshine or white-lightning, or whatever, kick back, take your dentures out, and relax on the deck of your mobile home on the swamp out there in Missouri, and let us Californians settle our own problems.

If we need any confederate flag waving, "Klan" supporting, red neck dumbass opinions...

We'll kindly ask you for them.

They're really not that different when you look at the values and morals of the average Hispanic family.

God, Family, selflessness, and everybody pulls their own weight.

When I think of the generosity of all the Mexican people I had known while growing up, this was disturbing to me also...
