Hi Dudette,

That poster from another thread seemed to think you were male because of your screen name didn't he? Rather large assumption on his part.

I wouldn't give them Wisconsin but there are a couple of left leaning states I would consider giving to them.

They aint nothin' to brag about but I have the same thing you told that "dude" you have.

Israel settled that unpopulated place way back in ancient history. The Nazis took it away from them. The UN gave it back to them after the war. They own it.

Your historical facts are somewhat askew.

The Nazis never "took it away from them," because they never had control of that region in WWII.

Jewish settlers began returning to the region in significant numbers beginning in the late 1800s, as part of the Zionist movement. A sympathetic description of Zionism can be found here.

By all accounts the Jews in Palestine were a rather difficult lot -- for example, they were reknowned for their use of terrorist tactics (see the Irgun) against British troops (see, e.g., the bombing of the King David Hotel in 1946). One Irgun leader was, BTW, hanged by the British for shooting up an Arab bus (now, where have we heard of that happening)!

I think the 1948 UN Mandate is probably best understood in terms of what the Nazis did do to the Jews. That, coupled with goals of the pre-existing Zionist movement, made (and still make) a lot of sense for the existence of a Jewish state.

Well, the Palestinian people are, naturally, the people who live in a place called Palestine, more commonly called the "Holy Land" by persons of religious faith. Most of the events in the Bible occurred in the Holy Land, including the teachings, cricifixion, and ascension of Jesus. The ancient Israeli and Judean kingdoms lived here, as did the twelve tribes of Israel. The Palestinian people, therefore, are the citizens of Israel. The term "Palestinian," however, has been hijacked by a vast gang of murderous terrorists ruled by the terrorist totalitarian tyrant Yasir Arafat. These so-called "Palestinians," really just a bunch of fanatically derranged terrorists, desire nothing more and nothing less than extermination for the real Israeli people. They should meet the fate that they wish upon the enemy, but not even the victimized Israelis wish that fate upon them.

If you were Israel, would you take them? I didn't think so.

Nope. No way in hell would I take them.

So what are you gonna do with them? Well, I guess you're either going to have to kill them all (unacceptable), or deport them (impossible without a general war in the region), or find a way to live with them (probably impossible, but it has to be tried).

The moral thing is to deal with the plight of people in the here and now. Doing otherwise is to dip into racism and hatred.

Needed to be said in bigger letters.

These are interesting 'facts'. The Nazis took land away from people on the Eastern Mediterranean? Furthermore, the UN gave it back? Incredible. Did the UN kick the Nazis out? Just how did this happen?

They nearly all are from either Egypt, Syria, Jordan or Lebanon. Ever ask yourself why none of those countries will take them back?

Nah. I use Biblical history first. The rest can be re-written by anyone with a pen.

And Israel was given their land back. It's theirs now. They own it. That's the point.
Now the squaters want to steal it.

I didn't think so. The only hope for peace (forlorn as it is) is to tame those folks in place.

And their millions and millions of passive-aggressive enablers.

In so doing, you unfortunately leave out about 2000 intervening years, during which the Jews were left the region, and scattered throughout the world. By the time of the Ottoman Turks, the number of Jews in Palestine was quite small.

And Israel was given their land back. It's theirs now. They own it. That's the point.

No, the point is that there are a couple million Arabs there, too, and they're not going anywhere.

"They're there, and they have no place else to go."

There are probably at least a dozen Arab countries--which with some Saudi and other wealthy Arab funding--would have plenty of room for them to go. Tiny Israel has taken in many hundreds of thousands of poor Jews from all over the world, but Arab countries have virtually ignored the plight of their brothers in Palestine.

The Arab rulers don't give a d*mn about these poor Arabs in Palestine, since they are a convenient tool to try to destroy Israel with....

No, I don't get it.

You're basically using a version of the "there first" argument. If you wanted to follow that rule in determing who owns the rights to Israel, who would you choose?

Would you choose a group of people, most of whose families settled in the region within the last three generations?

Or would you choose a group whose family ties in the region generally extend, uninterrupted, back to Biblical times and before?

The former group is, of course, the Israelis. The latter group is, of course, the Arabs. From a pure "been there longest" perspective, the Israelis are the ones who best fit the description of "squatters."

Let's be clear. What you're advocating is that the Palestinians (or call them what you like) be pushed out, subjugated, or killed. That's not a particularly healthy set of choices.

Would we let Mexico come in and steal Texas simply because they want to? No, we wouldn't!

We already are. Hell, they practically own California already, having driven it to total bankruptcy. They come in by the MILLIONS every year.
