Woman locked husband naked in bathroom for three years
Sydney Morning Herald ^ | November 12, 2003

A Turkish woman locked her rich industrialist husband naked in the bathroom for three years, claiming he was mentally disturbed, press reports said after the man was released.

Orhan Babutcu, 41, was found naked and traumatised sitting on the shower tiles next to the toilet, with a bowl on the floor for his food, the reports said.

The woman, Kevser Babutcu, said it was obvious her husband was mad because he took three showers a day. She said she was going to seek a divorce after 15 years of marriage, Hurriyet daily reported.

"Her goal was to make me sick so that I'd die and she'd inherit my fortune," Mr Babutcu said.

His wife, who has two children, had been living it up with other men while he was locked in the bathroom, Milliyet daily quoted him as saying.

He was finally freed after his mother, alerted by neighbours, called in the police.

He is receiving psychiatric help.

His wife is to be charged.

I am sorry for my insensitivity to traumatized men, but why didn't he break out. Why did he deserve this?

Men are dogs. Actually that woman thought her hubby deserved less attention than a dog! Go figure.

I dunno. If I was locked in a bathroom all day for three years, I might wind up taking three showers a day as well. What else is there to do?

That house must have had pretty good quality construction. Usually you can break down an interior door without too much effort--and I'd think this guy would have been motivated to try.

Hmmmm.... You have to wonder whether this rich industrialist's company noticed that he'd been missing work for three years....

That's what I'm thinking as well. Why didn't he either smash his way out or flood the place with the toilet's pipes?

Wuss!

If he had beer and a good cable TV package, that wouldn't necessarily be so bad.

I wonder what she thinks of Algore. Three showers is a light day for him, according to reports that circulated before the 2000 election.
