After all, a challenge to Roe-v-Wade starts at the locval level and works it's way up to the federal level. I think the rights of the unborn is something the SCOTUS should weigh in on. I disagree on that- the SCOTUS has no jurisdiction over this issue.

Now back to the debate,
Do you agree that there are basic principles our forefathers had in mind when they set up this Republic?
I can't see any issue more important than the sanctity of life and the respect for it we must have as a Nation. A life in Massachussetts is just as prescious as a life in Maryland or anywhere else in this country. I believe basic principles set forth in the Bill of Rights are a Federal issue and every state should abide by them

Thanks Richard. Yes indeed, it's EXTREMLY frustrating.
Two points:
"They quoted him as saying that he wasn't worried about George doing anything about Roe."
That would be confirmed by Ari Fleshier who said-at a press conference-when he was the spokesman that W is "personally against" abortion" but will not be specifically fighting it as Prez.
Point two: Chesterton, in addition, condemned contraception as wicked and an enemy of the family.

They tell of a man who strongly and openly supports the pro-life cause and does so because of a deeply felt Christian faith. Do people of other faiths feel the same way? Which, and why? Which faith is promoting abortion?
To: MJY1288
Naw- I don't think so mate. Slaves in NC and SC could be raped without impunity by any white man that their owner wanted. What were the abortion laws on South Carolina and North Carolina? Somehow I bet they were more strict in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

"the SCOTUS has no jurisdiction over this issue"That's a moot point, The SCOTUS is who made Roe-v-Wade the law of the land. But that's a deabte for another time :-)
I believe the unborn child is protected by the Bill of Rights and that by itself makes this a Federal issue

Is Roe about to be challenged? I would gladly like to see that overtuned. But I don't believe it will happen any time soon. Judges that have been appointed by pro-life Republicans have turned pro-choice once their seats hit the bench. And once Roe get overturned the media, TV and magazines, and newspapers, will be screaming about our loss of freedom. But also if it happens the 400,000 Buhananites will come back. Do you think that we can hold the White House against Rather, Jennings and all of Hollyweird?

That's a straw man and you know it.
With that logic, slavery could be legal today if a state decided that's the way they wanted it?
There were many reason's why we had to endure a civil war and slavery was one of them. The Federal Government stepped in and outlawed slavery because it was wrong and because it ignored the rights of blacks in this country. The killing of unborn babies is just as wrong as slavery was, and one day Abortion will join Slavery in the ash bin of history

The SCOTUS is who made Roe-v-Wade the law of the land. But that's a deabte for another time :-) Actually, it's precisely for THIS time. You're either with the slaughter of the most defenseless, or you're against it. Please choose your position.

LOL, I heard you the first time
And no, not everything is a federal issue, only things that effect the constitution and the bill of rights
