If Hollywood would let US be in charge of THIS movie, it would be a blockbuster of epic proportions.

Yeah. It's a joke around here that the only two organizations with any significance that I belong to are the AARP and the NRA. I was hanging out on the AARP chat thread and asking seniors (wherever the opportunity arises) to ask AARP to stay out of this.

We were considering a number of possible scenarios to explain why he didn't just move on with a new life (hiding physical evidence is always reason #1 mentioned). Our understanding was that it was SO important to the girlfriend to be married in the Catholic church. (shhh, no comment on the hypocrisy. . .). And SO important that an annulment wasn't acceptable (that's when the 'vending machine' comment was made). But yet killing is! A stark realization that sobered us -- straining the gnat & swallowing the camel, KILLING a person.

Annulments are a nuisance, but it is probably a lot more than that. Consider that even in a liberal diocese, an annulment application under these circumstances might not fly. My personal opinion is that they want her dead so they can put it behind them with no chance for more ugly surprises, etc.

The removal of religious articles and flowers is pure meanness & power plays (as is so much else in this horrid story), possibly more.

It seems to me it is all about power games. When he said the parents want to make his life hell, I felt that he was projecting. It appears he wants to make the parents' life hell.

The refusal to allow Terri to take last rites, which happened the Sat. I was there, was by lawyer (Bushnell, I believe) for the strict "nothing by mouth" -- and yes it does say a lot about their overall attitudes toward religion and respecting Terri's wishes.

Last rites weren't denied according to my understanding, only receiving communion on the part of Terri. Another grotesque power play imo, but he and the priest could have conceivably been held in contempt of court if communion was allowed. It could have been on the advice of his lawyer. Cold day in hell when a legal decree dictate the administration of a sacrament.

asked on another thread...
Sources on #6, please. This is the first I saw of any pre- hospitalized Terri saying she was contemplating divorce. This is damning evidence if it can be corroborated.

Sooi-ten-lee... You can find a lot by searching for Schiavo + divorce, Schiavo + Diane Meyers, Schiavo + Jackie Rhodes, etc...
For starters, how about Newsweek: Nov. 3 issue — The day before Terri Schiavo’s life descended into a private purgatory in 1990, she indulged in a guilty pleasure: an $80 visit to the hairdresser. When she told her husband, Michael, over the phone, he reacted angrily at the cost and the two traded bitter words, according to Jackie Rhodes, a friend of Schiavo’s.

the Seattle Times:
Jackie Rhodes, who worked and socialized with Terri, says Michael would frequently call his wife at work and leave her in tears. She says she and Terri had each discussed divorcing their husbands and moving in together.
...

Hannity and Colmes
[attorney] Anderson: ...she was so upset about the fight, that she called her best friend from work, a girl that she had discussed, perhaps both of them getting a divorce, and taking an apartment together... She called this girl, Jackie Rhodes, told her about the big fight... She was sufficiently upset that Jackie Rhodes asked her: "Should I come over? Should I come over and spend the night with you so you'll be safe?"

Anderson: And Terri said, "No, I'll either be asleep, or pretend to be asleep when he gets home from work."... and the next thing Jackie heard, was she was in the emergency room.

...more from Newsweek:
Terri confided to her friend Rhodes that her marriage was strained. She complained that Michael was lazy and so controlling that he tracked the mileage on her new Toyota to ensure she didn’t venture too far. A few weeks before her collapse, Terri broke down crying with her brother Bobby. “I wish that I had the guts to divorce Michael,” she told him, according to an affidavit he signed, “because I cannot take being married to him anymore.

"On the Record with Greta"
Greta: What was her marriage like with her husband?

Bobby: Well it was deteriorating Greta. I mean, we've had ahh, Terri and I had conversations ahh, prior to her collapsing that evening, where she was ahh, coming to me seeking a DIVORCE from Michael.

Bobby: And at the time, I was only in my early twenties, and ah, other than just listening to her, I really didn't offer... you know, have much to offer, as far as how to go about seeking a divorce. Ahh, she was extremely unhappy.

and THIS juicy tidbit regarding LIFE SUPPORT
from St.PetersburgTimes:
...they[Terri's parents] and [friend Diane] Meyer said [IN COURT UNDER OATH], [Terri] supported placing her grandmother ON a ventilator and opposed Karen Ann Quinlan's parents, who gained national attention in the 1970s when fighting to REMOVE their daughter from life support.

this from the AP...
[best friend Diane] Meyer told a cruel joke about Quinlan, and it set Schiavo off.

"She went down my throat about this joke, that it was inappropriate," Meyer said. She remembers Schiavo wondering how the doctors and lawyers could possibly know what Quinlan was really feeling or what she would want.

"Where there's life," Meyer recalled her[Terri] saying, "there's hope."

>>"KING: Did they not accuse you of denying Terri any rehab treatment since 1993?

I've read some of your links.....interesting stuff.

And see some of the "troll" arguments. How do you do this?

Who's the one called Legedermain (sp)?. He needs several shrinks, a good woman, and some group hugs. Maybe a class in relationships or meditation might help..../sarcasm

Or is that medication.....

I think that one needs to start with some HEAVY medication. A woman? In his dreams.

I refuse to engage him. It would be nothing but a mental feces throwing contest. He is disrespectful and condescending and looking for a fight, so while I might pity his ignorance and lack of relationship with God, I don't have to get down there and wallow in the sewer with him. He is obviously in need of a little more research (of the life experience sort) before he will be open enough, or desperate enough, to hear what others would try to say or to recognize his need for God.

>>Just which of Ayn Rand's books promotes '"the right to die", drugs, pornography, prostitution and illegal immigeration should be legalized.'? I have only read Atlas Shrugged but I didn't see that in there anywhere.

I've read it all, and the answer is NONE of them. :)
