[history]
Six months after he spoke on an aircraft carrier deck under a banner proclaiming "Mission Accomplished," President Bush disavowed any connection with the war message. Later, the White House changed its story and said there was a link.
The "Mission Accomplished" boast has been mocked many times since Bush's carrier speech as criticism has mounted over the failed search for weapons of mass destruction and the continuing violence in Iraq.

That explanation hadn't surfaced during months of questions to White House officials about proclaiming the mission in Iraq successful while violence continued. BULL! Just BULL!

Unfortunately, this will become another mini-scandal. The press and the RATS are sooooo pathetic. They truly make my stomach turn. Barbara Bush is a very smart woman!

It will be fun to watch DU meltdown again.
To: Brian S
The whole thing was a Media set up against Bush anyway.
First you have the beautiful, but STUPID Norah O'Donnell asking the question, while the candidates prepare their quotes, with the AP ready to go with their report as well.
While it is too bad that Bush did not elaborate in support of the men on the Lincoln, his words were in no way an attempt to blame anyone, but only to set the record straight.

I agree with you! This was a set-up and now it is being totally distorted by the press. Chris Matthews was all over this tonight trying to make it look like another "Bush lie". It's past sickening.

I think he could have mentioned a bit more regarding the length of their mission, and the skill and success they had in carrying it out, lending to the Mission Accomplished banner. I am sure that someone from the Administration will do so tomorrow, but it was an opportunity lost.

Matthews is always out of the loop. I'm sure he thinks Cheney did it.
The press is so juvenile. With all that's going on in the world, they choose to write about this? Criminy...any moron would realize that the MISSION ACCOMPLISHED was meant for the crew of the ship. They had been out to sea for close to a year, IIRC.
I HATE THE PRESS!!

The sad fact, is that Freepers are keeping Matthews in business. If Freepers would refuse to watch ANYTHING on MSNBC or CNN for that matter, the ratings would take a huge dive. It is Conservative news junkies keeping these shows alive. It is time to turn off Chris Matthews and every other show on MSNBC and CNN, and force them to become fair.

While I do wish he could think faster on his feet when it comes to public speaking, I saw he just stated a fact of the matter to the question.
Now if Chris Matthews and the usual suspects really start making hay of this, I am just going to have to break down and throw something through my tv like I almost did during the uranium flap!
