Are you in mass? If so did you listen to WEEI?

My buddy in Boston says callers all day have been screaming for littles head. GOOD! Grady Little is done no matter what you think of his skills as a manager he lost the respect of the fans.

Buckner would probably be more welcome playing first base next year than little would be in the dugout

That's why After 35 years of being a fan I have given up on the Yankees. I had season tickets and used to go to Monday nite games for years. Now it is a Joke.

I could care less.

Grady sucks, but some of the blame must rest on Pedro's shoulders. The truly great pitchers get those last 2 outs. Martinez is little more than a box score hero.

Yes I am in MA. I listened to some of WEEI, but to tell you the truth, I just didn't want any part of it. Everyone here knows that the Red Sox (Grady) gave the game to the Yankees, and that it didn't have to be that way.

Even the Yankees know that (although their fans will never admit it.)

One thing I heard this morning was Grady saying that he just did what he had done all year. Bullshit. It was bizarre to hear him say that because he NEVER kept Pedro in for the eighth, except for one complete game this year.

I wondered if he would still have his job by lunchtime. The owners owe us SOMEthing. It would be one thing if he had been a great manager who made a mistake. But we have complained about him all year. I swear, he acted more like someone's uncle just sitting watching the game than the manager of the team.

24 hours ago, this team was shutting out the Yankees with a three run lead. Now, it's all just hot stove talk, and to be completely honest, I don't give a damn about next year. I might later, but today I don't.

Today it feels like someone died.

the owners may let the fans calm down a bit before Little is let go just to make it look like they gave it some thought and it wasnt just due to fan pressure. But I bet both epstein and lucchino had made their decision before Boone rounded third.

Some owners want profit, some want championships. Unfortunately, alot of owners chose one over the other. Anyone can say anything they want about Steinbrenner but, he takes his profits and produces Championship Teams for New York. For that, Yankee fans are grateful.

One other item I forgot to mention about lastnight was that I got a chance to tell Kelly Anne Fitzpatrick (I forget her married name)outside of the stadium that she is great and to keep up the great work. She smiled grasciously and said "thanks". Shortly after that I understand that my friends caught me on WABC channel 7 TV prior to the game. All in all, one helluva night.

And I hope it becomes 27 this year. The Yankees are a true grit team. They never give up. Neither do the Red Sox. Watching the game now. 1 to 1.

What about the yankee payroll being 65% larger than the next highest franchise?

What are you, come kind of Commie?

The Yankees are profitable. What more do you need to know? What matters how much the payroll is?

Next thing you know you'll be criticizing my SUV because it costs to much!

This is a lame response. Hollywood flicks are "profitable" too. From a consumer's point of view, I would much prefer MLB to give me a competitive situation with a level playing field. Selecting teams based on cable contracts and other mundane factors doesnt really do it for me.

MLB has turned the game into a pseudo-sport closer to pro-wrestling than antything else. If that floats your boat, good for you. I am glad you find entertainment in this. As long as you realize with the financial resoruces at your franchise's disposal (compared to that of the other 90% of the league), they should be downright embarrased if they DIDNT win. Yankee championships are about as meaninful as a Harlem Globetrotters game.

For those of us who enjoy sports for the competitiveness, there are far better alternatives. The NFL has it about right.

If any franchise wanted to spend the money and plow the profits back into the team, they could do exactly what the Yankees have done. Sure they make a little more on cable than most teams, but a heck of a lot more people tune in to see them than most teams. I would wager dollars to donuts that the percentage of sets tuned to the Yankees in the NY Metro Area is a lot higher than the percentage tuned to the M's in Seattle.

And don't forget, the Yankees share that market with another MLB franchise, whose name escapes me just now...

Some things the Yankees have not done in the last fifty years or so...

They have not built a new stadium.

They have not unbalanced their payroll. They have not paid any one player much more than any other.

They have not traded away all their prospects in favor of immediate success. They start each and every season building on the year before, with the only goal of winning the World Series.

They have not abandoned their scouting program and farm system. Look at the Yankees starting line-up. Over half are products of the farm system or were scouted up from parts unknown.

And any team in the league could do it, if they wanted to...

But most want the quick cash killing.
