Time to get rid of the FReepathons!

The latest quarterly FReepathon was a success and is over now. However, these events are a pain in the butt for those that run and operate them and for two to three weeks they dominate the sidebar and each thread. It is time we work to eliminate them once and for all.

Monthly Donations!

Many FReepers of good will are signed up for a monthly donation to FR as opposed to making a quarterly contribution. There are advantages to this system for both the site and the donor. FR can operate on a sounder fiscal basis by having money coming in monthly and as a donor you can spread your contributions out in smaller increments over an entire year.

Currently FR gets about 7k in monthly revenue. If we could get this up to 25k, there would be no need for the FReepathons. You can sign up for a painless $5-$10 a month (more if you are inclined, several people are at $50-$100!), which would be processed through a secure server by Jim and his family. Plus, running bulk CC donations on a monthly basis is less expensive than using PayPal. Even if you can only afford $2-$3, it would be a tremendous help!

It's time we help put FR onto a more secure and professional revenue plan! Please, bump this thread and use your ping lists to encourage your friends and family to GO MONTHLY!

We need to get 1800 FReepers who would be willing to donate an average of $10 once a month!

I have a monthly donation. I also get a montly card. I don't need the card, and although it is only a postage card stamp, it still cost to send. Can I request that a monthly card NOT be sent to me?

Perks like the coffee cup thing might work, but the cost is not trivial. One free offer begets another come renewal time, etc. But I still want my cup!!!!!!

How about something simple like a special symbol between the FRname and the tagline denoting monthly contributors? It adds a little prestige and only involves a one-time programming cost. Or does Fark hold a patent on this? OK, a special font or color or something.

The list (post #64) is not the official list, but a voluntary list we post on the Freepathon threads during fundraisers.

At the bottom of the list it says:

Any FReeper or Lurker who makes a regular monthly donation to Free Republic by credit card, check, or PayPal may add his/her screen name to this list by simply FReepmailing the message "I am a monthly donor" to me or just declaring themselves on the FReepathon thread.

This list is completely voluntary. No name is added without permission. The list is posted periodically during fundraisers on the FReepathon thread.

More than 200 Freepers are not on it because they didn't ask, but this unofficial list will not be used for sending out the coffee mugs.

MONTHLY DONORS PROGRESS REPORT 10/16/03:
End of Third Quarter: $6,722 per month from 413 donors.
From the Scoreboard today:
$7,499 per month from 468 donors.

I'll be back to monthly contributions myself soon enough. (Poor college student for just another 2 years!)

In the meantime, don't forget to post those as QUARTERLY numbers, since the FReepathons are done that way.

That's $22,497 per quarter, over one-third of FR's operational needs!

Also, $7499 per month from 468 donors equates to $16.02 average monthly donation. Only 905 more "average" donors needed to make FReepathons a thing of the past!

And what's 50 cents per day for all the information, breaking news, scoops, interactive data, first-hand accounts, humor, art, comraderie, education, friendship, verbal sparring, dramatics, and fun that you won't find anywhere else?!?

Rotti, I think you're list is out of date as I see several people who no longer contribute (Fred Mertz?). My suggestion is to use the FR list posted previously...that also has an anonymous feature.
