Hypocrite!
Murdering a baby is WRONG for YOU, ME and any other human being regardless of religion or race.

Aw, I like Mr. Rogers. My four year old loves him too. I didn't know till after he died that he was a Presperterian ( I KNOW I spelled that one wrong - sorry) minister. He's still great with kids on the re-runs.

Interesting petition. Does this mean that I was incorrect, that one has to actually get an abortion directly to be excommunicated "by the act", and this petition seeks to change it to effectively adding "aiding and abetting"?
I'm happy to sign either way, just wondering.
BTW, even though she's not a current officeholder, Ex-Gov. Christie Whitman (R-NJ) definetly, definetly, definetly deserves to be added to the list.

Oops! Never mind! Christie is a "Presbyterian" RINO.

Yes, the canon law uses the word "procure" which means the Doctor and the patient are excommunicated. The petition requests that the law be changed to include pro-abort politicians and voters who vote for pro aborts to become excommunicated.

I'm so glad to see this posted, because of a Schwarzenegger connection to Granholm. An extremely liberal friend of mine had told me about Jennifer Granholm when she was first elected. At the time, she said that because of how wonderful Granholm is, an attempt was going to be made to eliminate the provision that anyone who runs for President has to have been born in the U.S. making it possible for this new golden girl (Canada born) to run. Being the cynic I am, I researched Granholm, and wasn't surprised to see what she was all about. So.... fast forward to Arnold's election, and the first thing this same friend says to me is- "I see another Kennedy in the White House," referring to Arnold and Maria. I pointed out that he can't run, and she said, "THEY are trying to change that," as if this was something new! I quickly reminded her who the "THEY" was and who "THEY" were trying to make the change for... Shortly after this conversation, another liberal friend (what can I say, I'm in western Washington)gave me the same line about Arnold and the White House. Anyone else hearing this?

WOW. Then I'm afraid I can't sign.
Actually, one of my biggest concerns would be for the Church itself, but also for our republic. I have no problem with the part about politicians... but any VOTER who votes for a pro-choice politician?
What if both choices are pro-choice, but otherwise one is far more worse than the other? Imagine where it's a choice between an otherwise-conservative and a Bustamante/Davis who wants to grant drivers licenses to illegal aliens - a situation that is potentially just as lethal to human life (by allowing a terrorist strike using WMD)? At this point any Catholic who voted for the lesser evil to keep an even greater evil out of office gets excommunicated?
No, I'm sorry. You have to understand - I am -very- pro-life. I want it banned in all 3 trimesters. But -requiring- every Catholic to become a single-issue voter or be damned to hell would likely decimate it. I also don't think it would be very fair - as pro-life as I am, if I was faced with the above situation, yes, I would most certainly vote.
What's the difference between a pro-abortion politician and a voter who votes for him? Am I being hypocritical in condemning one and not the other? No. Because once in office, the politician can tackle abortion as a single issue, but chooses not to do so. A voter doesn't have that luxury. Whatever package you wrap around a pro-life position, you're asking the Church to tell Catholics how to vote no matter what that package is, even if the choice is to give up their voice in government or vote for the guy who wants to give away California to Mexico.
No. Can't do it. Too dangerous for the Church, far far too intrusive into secular politics and too likely to drive away (literally, expelling) too many laity. Too dangerous for the U.S., where unscrupulous politicians more than happy to adopt the pro-life position just to get their way on every other issue could be elected.
Can't do it. Bring it to just politicians (who have the luxury of dealing with issues one at a time) and I'll happily, eagerly sign. I don't think I can otherwise.
If anyone knows of a petition that doesn't go that far, or if that petition can be changed to not include voters, please let me know.
