“handful of snobs”

I think you cut to the heart of the matter in just three words, FRiend.

Much, if not most, of the political divisions rending this great nation asunder are the result of a narrow stratum of self-appointed, unaccountable elites asserting their superiority over the regular folks who do the all the actual work.

Personally, I think a competent electrician is worth more than all the “experts” in D.C.

And please note, I am a retired journalist, albeit one who, by the grace of God, never lost touch with his blue-collar roots. I always viewed myself as simply a word mechanic and purveyor of information — and most emphatically not a change agent or conscience of the community.

Without Trump? I’d just as soon drag most of the rest of them out of their offices and kick the shit out of them...you know....for laughs...for something constructive to do.

His advice and $1.20 will get me a cup of coffee.

Might be nice if the party actually stands for something, duh.

I was active in Republican politics for a while, and a lot of what democrats said about Republicans (before Trump) was true.

They were generally upper middle class people that viewed blue collars like myself suspiciously, were nervous around blacks, and when I talked about minority outreach, they'd just shrug and say, "blacks won't ever vote Republican."

Rick Perry sent a delegate to talk to our county convention shortly after the Republicans had won a pretty big election, and he started that "big tent" garbage. He talked about there being a big enough tent for (paraphrasing here) the baby killers and gun grabbers, and if we were going to cling to single issues, we needed to exit the party. I stood up, waved at him and left. That was Bush's second election, and the Republicans never gained any ground or won a national election with the "big tent."

It's difficult to believe they're trotting out that old phrase again. Nearly as good as Jeb's! guacamole bowl.

The Republicans without Donald Trump

“I think we all know that Trump is a “once in a lifetime” force of nature, politically speaking”

Reagan was too—an even better one because he was more likable. Trump’s bluntness is wonderful but also a turnoff for many people.

We have no room for a handful of snobs (Christine Todd Whitman, Paul Ryan, Rick Wilson, Nicole Wallace, Steve Schmidt), as their places are being taken by throngs of blue collar/working class folks making the country work.

Anyone who all these snobs dislike would be a good candidate to lead the GOP. The only type of person whom all these people dislike is a patriotic conservative. With this group, you'd be more likely to hear praise for one of "The Squad" than President Trump, VP Pence, SOS Pompeo, or other patriotic conservatives.

"I think they are going to be looking to how do we go about becoming a bigger tent party,"

A pair of his trousers should make for a big tent.

These are the same things that were said by the same sort of “republicans” when Reagan was in office. They gave us HW who gave us Clinton.
They can’t wait for Trump to leave like they couldn’t wait for Reagan to leave so they can bring back the squish party they are so comfortable with.

"I think they are going to be looking to how do we go about becoming a bigger tent party," he said. "We're going to have to find a way to appeal to more people and have a bigger tent."

That is what Trump is doing.

All you have done is whine about it.

This same old trope gets trotted out every election cycle. “Republicans need to be more ‘diverse’ and ‘reach out’ more.” The subtext is we are supposed to forget our core values and embrace Leftist nonsense in order to be more appealing to liberals and other deadbeat socialist trash.

Trump is the bigger tent. We were losing spectacularly for a decade when he arrived. Only exception was the tea party movement which people like Hogan destroyed with big government policies.

They will become mirror images of the Republicans of the 1960’s. The senate Republicans were all RINOs with the exception of Barry Goldwater. Remember Jacob Javitts? Hugh Scott? Margaret Chase Smith? Clifford Case? Everette Dirkson and Styles Bridges? They went along to get along and the new crop will o the same.

You are so right. Trying to get long never ends well. The GOP need to keep their boot heals on the necks of the likes of Pelosi at all times.

That ship sailed with Obama, who was born in Mombasa, Kenya.

Don Jr. was born in New York. Yes, his mother was born in what is now the Czech Republic.
