1 year before U.S. election, support for Trump appearing to hold

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- With about a year to go before the U.S. presidential election, Roy Mikolaj, a 53-year-old resident of the U.S. Midwest state of Ohio, already knows who will have his support in 2020 -- Donald Trump.

Mikolaj is a registered Democrat. But in the previous election in 2016, he was one of the workers in the declining industrial area known as the "Rust Belt" who voted for Trump, a trend that propelled the Republican nominee to the White House after he campaigned to bring jobs back from U.S. trade partners such as China, Japan and Mexico.

Following Trump's nearly three years in office, the situation faced by the Ohio local is far from rosy. An iconic General Motors Co. car factory near his home, where he had worked for around 23 years and hoped to continue to serve until his retirement, halted production in March.

But Mikolaj does not blame Trump for the plant shutdown. As for the impeachment inquiry over allegations Trump pressured Ukraine's leader to dig up potentially damaging information on his political rival, Joe Biden, Mikolaj brushes it off as "nonsense stuff" in a bid by Democrats to discredit the president.

"I voted for President Trump and I stand by him. I think he's our country's best interest," he said in mid-October, just outside the Lordstown factory where he was protesting with other workers against GM.

Rust Belt Americans don't want "free" anything - they want jobs. But the Rats have made it clear they don't care about jobs.

[There are a lot of people who wouldn’t have dreamed of voting for Trump in 2016 who will definitely vote for him in 2020. ]

There are a good number who thought he was a far left New York liberal who camouflaged his views to win the GOP nomination. Now that he’s appointed two right wing SC judges, and stood firmly on the side of the 2nd Amendment, I think some who sat out 2016 will come out to vote for him. And the impeachment over his attempt to root out the Democrats’ Nixonian tactics will bring out the tribal instincts of many GOP voters who will see this as a personal attack on themselves.

Trump has never lost any support, not since the day he originally announced, his support has only grown.

Anyone who didn’t see 2016 coming was living in self delusion.

A lot of folks in 2016, were scared by the Establishments never ending attacks on Trump, or thought he was just another all talk no action guy...

Trump won by getting a lot of disenfranchised folks to show up...

Believe me, all of those who voted for him 16 will show up in 20, and a hell of a lot more who stayed home or bought into the fearmongering and voted Hillary will show up to vote for him in 2020...

2020, short of a complete economic collapse, or some other black swan event of that magnitude is going to win re-election handily. Best case for the Dems is about 15 states... Reality is, I won’t be surprised if they don’t even get 10 states.

“Trump has never lost any support, not since the day he originally announced, his support has only grown.”

I agree. And I think the MSM knows it, hence, they’ve been going berserk trying to gaslight everyone. They’ll grasp at any straws.

How many remember how the Tea Party started? One guy ranting on CNBC.

Today, Nov 1 we have one very popular video gamr (I think Optimus is his name) ranting about the bias of Youtube (and thus of google). He is a very popular videro gamer.

This rant might go viral and greatly influence the election. If not this video, it is very likely that some “grito” will occur between now and election day that will swing an identifiable faction, such as video gamers, one direction or the other.

Part of the outcome will depend on how those outside the faction (the non-gamers in this example) react to the outrage of the faction that is outraged.

In this example, the gamers play Minecraft and Call of Duty. They use guns and thus are not poitically correct. They are rather cynical about political correctness. But many are tribal Democrats.

Maybe the next Tea Party will be from these gamers. Maybe it will be from some other isolated demographic group.

The big question is who will profit from it?
