Election Countdown: Small-donor donations explode | Russian woman charged with midterm interference

Small-dollar donors are playing an increasingly prominent role in bankrolling campaigns.

Right now, Democratic candidates running for seats in the House and Senate appear to be reaping the biggest rewards from low-dollar donations.

For example, In the race for Wisconsin's 1st congressional district, 43 percent of the individual contributions brought in by Democrat Randy Bryce between July 26 and Sept. 30 came from donations of $200 or less, his most recent FEC filings show. Meanwhile, only 17 percent of the individual contributions to his Republican opponent, Bryan Steil, were from small donors.

More than 70 Democratic challengers in some of the country's most competitive House and Senate races outraised Republican incumbents in the third fundraising quarter of 2018. That's in no small part due to the influx in small-dollar contributions.

But on the Republican side, President Trump is also pulling in massive amounts of cash from small donors. Between July 1 and Sept. 30, his campaign raked in more than $18 million. Of that, roughly $2.9 million came from donors giving $200 or less, federal filings show.

Taken together, the surge in low-dollar contributions signals the increasing influence of small donors in campaign politics. Strategists and operatives from both sides of the aisle say that the fundraising strategy is helping the parties map out a new model for campaign finance.

"The fact that challengers are raising this kind of money without being self-funders or taking corporate PAC money -- it sort of reinforces that this is a new model for how we fund campaigns," said Navin Nayak, the executive director of the Center for American Progress Action Fund.

We gain 3-5 in the Senate and hold the House. IMO.

The law on keeping records for political donations needs to be TWEAKED. I’m highly suspicious that a huge number of small donations are actually being made by “bot” operations run by organizations controlled by Leftists such as Soros. Records need to be required to be kept for ALL DONATIONS. These records need to include IP ADDRESS from which donation was made and detailed PAYMENT IDENTIFICATION such as type of payment (e.g., if cash card, where bought, if check, which bank and last four of account number) and source.

Too many people in this world have too much at stake in US elections. It’s understandable why they’d want to have a say even if it’s illegal. Fact is they’d much rather have the rats in charge unless their national security is at stake.

The Clintons started this political financing by foreign entities back in the day when Bill was running. There was a tremendous amount of Chinese money being funneled to his campaigns. The TREASONOUS CLINTONS paid the Chinese back by approving the release to China of rocket trajectory control technology (supposedly for rockets to put satellites into orbit but that same technology allowed the Chinese to have accurate targeting for their ICBMs).

“Small-dollar donors are playing an increasingly prominent role in bankrolling campaigns.”

I wonder how much of this is George Soros, Tom Steyer, and etc. running money laundering campaigns?

Obama used same tact in his elections, majority of small donations came below reporting limit from several card accounts issued overseas. At time no secure authorization procedures used as they were turned off. Reported he at FR, I even tested several single digit donations at time with bogus names on my card, all went through.

I wonder if there is any hourly or daily tracking of the totals for the “surge in low-dollar contributions.”

Does it go up and down or is it nice and steady hour by hour, day by day?

Thanks for sacrificing your several single digit donations to prove the point.

I’m hearing that in the age of Trump, more money donations don’t mean automatic wins.

Look at Beto. He’s got the most and he’s still so far behind.

“43 percent of the individual contributions brought in by Democrat Randy Bryce between July 26 and Sept. 30 came from donations of $200 or less”

Statistically, it’s near certain that most of those small donations came from truly stupid people.

Are we sure it was a Russian meddling or just CIA software to make it look like a Russian meddling.
