Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee released copies of Facebook ads created by a Russian company with ties to the Kremlin Thursday, providing the most comprehensive picture to date of the Russian campaign to use hot-button social and political issues to target Americans during the 2016 presidential election.

Lawmakers released roughly 3,000 ads from Facebook and Instagram in an effort to follow through on a commitment made by committee leaders last fall when lawmakers held hearings about the Russian social influence campaign.

At the time, the panel released a small sampling of the ads produced by the Internet Research Agency, a Russian organization accused of spreading disinformation that the committee says produced the content between 2015 and 2017.

“There’s no question that Russia sought to weaponize social media platforms to drive a wedge between Americans, and in an attempt to sway the 2016 election,” Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said in a statement....

Every time Schiff opens his mouth he drives a wedge between Americans.

These guys need to look in the mirror if they want to find the enemy.

Russians were trying to rile up the election in 2016 to undermine Hillary, not to enable Trump, never dreaming that Hillary would self-immolate. They could have saved a bundle.

Who cares?

Even if they could prove Trump directly paid for these ads, I could not care less.

Far more people will probably see these ads now than ever saw them before the election.

I’d really like to see some of these ads. Where can I do that?

... and if one takes 5 minutes to actually go to the site and pull the ads, they are total nothing burgers. They’re not even about the election.

"Russians were trying to rile up the election in 2016 to undermine Hillary..."

Actually, they were placing ads to undermine and attack BOTH candidates.

Either way, they wanted a close election and enhanced polarization. Which they got, thanks to Deep State, the best friends Russia has.

So how did these active measures affect people like me who are not FB or Instagram users?

By the way. Don’t think of these as some sort of hi-production ads. They are little more than an image with some message. In most cases I see no connection at all to politics. Those Russians must have been getting paid by volume of ads.

Many of the ads are from this fake(?) version of BLM called Black Matters (with the unfortunate or ironic acronym of BM). What purpose did these ads serve? I have no idea, but they have nothing to do with the election.

Why do they include 2017. And 2015 for that matter?

They release these ads as if anyone reads them.

Ads over content are universally despised, but tolerated. There’s no choice in the matter, and the rare few who act on the ads are paying the freight for services free to the rest of us.
