Many people become more reflective and decent when they realize that the end is near. McCain just seems to be getting even more petty and vindictive in his final days than he was before.

You’re right. McCain does seem to be getting more petty and vindictive—who even knew that was possible? He was pretty spiteful toward Trump all along.
Perhaps he will mellow as time passes. Right now he still seems to be in denial. He appears to believe the brain cancer can be beaten.
Once the inevitable course of the disease becomes undeniable, we may see a shift toward magnanimity. For McCain’s sake we can hope so, anyway.

A person can’t live the life he’s led and expect, or hope for, the best. He has some time to redeem himself as far as his standing with God, but I’m not holding my breath.
MCcain and his girlfriend Ms. Lindsay, are understandable having a difficult time accepting the CIC’s decison on transgenders in the military.
That saying goes back to the Nixon years. He was hated like Trump and the democrats conjured up the same kind of non-issues to destroy him like they are trying now.
