Trump OKs changes in GOP health care bill, winning support
The Lockport Union-Sun and Journal ^ | March 17, 2017 | Erica Werner and Alan Fram, The Associated Press

President Donald Trump agreed to add fresh Medicaid curbs to the House Republican health care bill Friday, bolstering the measure with support from some conservative lawmakers but leaving its prospects wobbly. House leaders discussed other amendments calibrated to round up votes and scheduled a showdown vote Thursday.

“I just want to let the world know I am 100 percent in favor” of the measure, Trump said at the White House after meeting around a dozen House lawmakers and shaking hands on revisions. “We’re going to have a health care plan that’s going to be second to none.”

While the rapid-fire events seemed to build momentum for the pivotal GOP legislation, its fate remained clouded. One leading House conservative said the alterations were insufficient and claimed enough allies to sink the measure, and support among moderates remained uncertain....

I cannot convey how irritating and insidiously deceptive it is that health care and health insurance are used interchangeably.

It’s a start.

Full repeal is better, but I do understand that it may well not be in the cards at the moment.

At the moment, I believe what we should do is support the President, if not this particular plan. I would shed not a single tear if this plan and Ryan went down in flames.

However, Trump has proven himself trustworthy enough times that I am willing to give that he’s doing his level best for the American people. Unlike most of the rest of the elites.

I can endure a poor plan if I believe that it is being implemented honestly and with good intentions, and that if it doesn’t work, we will do a better one.

As it is, the current changes make it slightly less barfy to swallow.

as long as they keep pre existing conditions it by definition cannot be called insurance.

That’s right. Health insurance does not mean anyone has health care until they pay that ungodly deductable or in many cases, can’t pay it.

Would Republicans rather have a fantastic health care plan or a Constitutional health care plan?

Exactly! It is a red herring.

They want to take away health freedom and use insurance to regulate us.

I’m amazed at the number of Freepers such as yourself who have totally accepted the idea of government run healthcare as long as it’s Trump’s government run healthcare.

Bite me, Cruzlim.

Where in my post did I even imply ‘totally accept’?

Oh right, I said that I wanted this plan to crash and burn.

I agree. It is a start. The first stage needs to put into law. Then, the details can be worked out. Obamacare had many tentacles into our economy. They need to be cut off surgically with precision. It was a cancer.

And believe me, I WISH it could be faster and more thorough, not to mention a guarantee of stages two and three.

But gorram GOPe.

They need to encourage charitable insurance companies. We will never have good health care with shareholder profits in the mix.

This repeal and replace of Obamacare will be a slow process. I can accept that. It needs to be done right, like a great building.

It's people like you that are causing the biggest problems, asking the correct and proper question like that (and I couldn't agree with you more.)

Return to constitutional governance first - then work on fixing the problems we have brought upon ourselves. Obamacare is unconstitutional. Repeal it. Anything else is hypocrisy.

A while back a lefty numbskull told me what a great deal their bamcare was. I asked, "what's the deductable?"      Answer: I DON'T KNOW.

To play devil’s advocate, how can the lower and middle classes maintain a decent quality of life when health care costs send many of them into bankruptcy. One must admit that some kind of “help” is needed when the cost of care is out of control and nothing is in place to contain it. What is another solution? I don’t know. All I know is I would rather my tax money go towards American’s medical needs rather than helping foreign countries, nonsense domestic programs, and bloated bureaucracy. Would be nice if insurance wasn’t the only way to affordable health care but this is a new technologically advanced world now. I remember when it cost 20 bucks to see the family physician. Also remember when insurance premiums through plan at work were $15 month with a $10/$20 co-pay no deductible. And I’m not THAT old.

Obamacare doesn't help the lower or middle class. Most of the people that signup on the exchanges (80%) are the working poor that are heavily subsidized. These are the people that are between 138% and 250% poverty level. People between 300% and 400% FPL haven't been signing up even though they can get some decent premium subsides. The deductibles are so high for this group, they don't see the value or don't have any assets to protect from bankruptcy.

Medical care co-ops make more sense.

I’m stuck with the worst of the lot, FIXED, RATIONED, and RESTRICTED Medicare/Tricare Life. There are no appeals, what should be a medical procedure is deemed ‘cosmetic’. Which means you pay full cost. When the eye doc screws up a cataract implant, and it’s not caught until to late to replace with the right one, you get a second doc for the other implant, better results, but you are left with crap vision. Only fix is Lasix which is ‘cosmetic’. $5K plus the cost of tri-focals $650. Vision, hearing and dental should be an option with co-pays. Or as a separate plan you can purchase. As it is YOU are NOT allowed a third plan to cover those items or you lose your Tricare Life. NOTE I DID NOT ASK FOR A FREEBIE, JUST THE RIGHT TO HAVE OPTIONS AND A THIRD PLAN I COULD BUY THAT COVERS WHAT SENIORS NEED MOST HEARING AIDS, VISION AND DENTAL, EVEN A CNA TO HELP THOSE OF US WHO CAN’T DO WHAT WE ONCE DID OUR SELVES, AT A REASONABLE COST AND CO-PAYS

And neither are ENTITLEMENTS, they are PRE-PAID health care, in the form of under paid service to the USA or through Taxes the feds get. And WASTE, $7 Billion Medicare $$ went into DUMBOCARE, after congress stole billions from it for the general fund to Waste on illegals or unnecessary social programs. With no intentions of redeeming their WORTHLESS IOU’s. This year ILLEGALS begin collecting SS and Medicare. They didn’t pay the taxes for.
