New PA poll: 1 in 5 Philadelphians will vote for Donald Trump

A new poll shows Donald Trump is surging in Philly, with more than 1 in 5 likely voters in the city planning to vote for the GOP presidential nominee.

The poll, released this week and conducted by pollsters at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, shows 22 percent of respondents from Philadelphia plan to vote for Trump, while 67 percent would vote for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. Of the respondents, 11 percent were still undecided.

There is a big caveat with these F&M poll results: Philadelphians only made up 8 percent of the 813 respondents. According to the most recent voter registration numbers provided by the Dept. of State, registered voters in Philadelphia make up 12.6 percent of registered voters statewide. The poll also showed 0 percent support in the city for libertarian candidate Gary Johnson.

But it does show Trump seems to be surging in Philadelphia, despite Clinton’s statewide gains. An F&M poll released in August showed Trump at just 7 percent support in Philadelphia.

Overall, the poll — which was conducted last week — showed Clinton making gains in Pennsylvania following a week of what can best be described as bad news for Trump. The poll showed Clinton leading by nine points in Pennsylvania, a state that pundits have described as one of the battleground states critical to either candidate’s path to the White House. Her lead among likely voters is 47 percent to Trump’s 38 percent....

PA is not dependable at all. Except for the dems.

We need FL, NV. and a few of the small guys.

Ohio is ours.

I haven’t heard much on New Jersey. Can Christie deliver or is it a lost cause?

Lost cause. Every election there are some pieces written that say "well, surprisingly the GOP candidate is showing better than expected support in New Jersey, it might be in play" and then the Dem wins in a 30% landslide. I'll believe it when it happens once. I say this as a frustrated NJ voter who knows his vote counts for nada.

I know PA is the perennial tease, but if Trump can get W numbers in Philly he can (not will, but definitely can) take the state. W lost PA to Kerry by about 2.5 points. With OH looking not just like a Trump win but very solid for Trump, I’d expect him to perform very well throughout the rest of the state.

That map is all red and two stains of blue that screw it up for everyone else...

They told us in 2004 that our efforts in Pennsylvania probably made the margin of difference. Kerry had to redeploy resources from Ohio and other close contests to defend Pennsylvania.

Kerry was declared the winner of PA within 30 minutes of when the polls closed, even though we still had people waiting in line. G.W. Bush was not declared the winner of Ohio until the next day even though his margin was nearly identical to Kerry's margin in PA. How does that happen?

Turnout will be key

In New Jersey, if the ghettos sit home, NJ is Trump’s

Suburbs are Trump country right now, a ton of people hate the status quo and want change. This has nothing to do with Christie

NJ is doable, she is only leading by 4 points

Look for the media to call states for Hillary as fast as they can to depress voter turnout for Trump.

1 in 5 will vote for Trump, maybe 1 in 3 by the time the polls are open for regular voting but how many votes will the totals show? a token 1 in 50?
