SALEM In the parking lot at the Republican state convention Saturday, the bumpers of several cars captured the story of some of the hundreds of party insiders inside: Donald Trump wasnt a top choice, but well rally behind him.
Dozens of cars at the state fairgrounds in Salem donned stickers and magnets supporting the partys slate of statewide and congressional candidates, conservative causes and various current and former Republican presidential candidates.
But on another car, and at least one more like it, stickers summed up the second-choice vibe of a few party members inside. One sported stickers in support of the campaign of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, which were later covered up by a new one: Donald Trump for President.
Until late, Oregons late primary and delegate selection process appeared to hold rare sway in the national race, as Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich fought to prevent Trump from winning enough primaries and caucuses to become the partys nominee outright.
But those two suspended their campaigns in early May. Trump went on to shore up the support of more than half of Republican voters in Oregons May 17 primary and received 18 of the partys 28 delegates. Cruz and Kasich will each get five.
Although some of the more than 600 party insiders and newcomers who traveled from across the state this weekend preferred another candidate as their top choice, they made clear theyre ready to unify behind anyone with the right party affiliation.....

There’s almost no chance of a GOP candidate taking OR unless it is a YUGE landslide like 1984.
I’m optimistic, but only 35 states optimistic.
