The GOP resistance to Donald Trump
CNN ^ | 05/07/2016 | Eric Bradner

Posted on 05/06/2016 5:38:40 AM PDT by RayofHope

Washington (CNN)Donald Trump's march to the White House encountered fierce resistance from his own party Thursday as senior lawmakers hesitated to endorse him, party luminaries said they'd skip his nominating convention and others pondered the potential of a third-party bid.

House Speaker Paul Ryan said he's "just not ready" to support Trump, becoming the highest elected Republican official to raise concerns about Trump since he became the party's likely standard-bearer this week.

In an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper, Ryan said he wants Trump to unify "all wings of the Republican Party and the conservative movement" and then run a campaign that will allow Americans to "have something that they're proud to support and proud to be a part of." "And we've got a ways to go from here to there," Ryan said.

Trump dug in. Hours after Ryan's announcement, Trump declared in a statement that "I am not ready to support Speaker Ryan's agenda." He added, "Perhaps in the future we can work together and come to an agreement about what is best for the American people. They have been treated so badly for so long that it is about time for politicians to put them first!"

Trump continued to highlight Ryan's statements on Friday morning.

So many great endorsements yesterday, except for Paul Ryan! We must put America first and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 6, 2016

The RINO’s are trying to get their pound of flesh out of Trump, for some reason they think if they hold out long enough he will come crawling to them hat in hand for their support, then they can squeeze concessions out of him and essentially own him like they have every other Republican presidential candidate. That approach might work with any other candidate, but I seriously doubt they are going to get what they want out of Trump. He has essentially said he doesn’t give a flip if they support him or not, and why should he? He won the primary without their support, why can’t he do the same in the general election?

Ryan’s a condescending, arrogant jerk.

How absurd of Ryan to take this position. His congressional district voted Trump in Wisconsin!

Ryan is all in with the establishment $ against the people.

These folks only dance to their handlers tune. “Put Americans Last” might appropriately describe them.

They love to attach happy names to their legislation, like the Affordable Care Act (unaffordable and getting more so) and the Patriot Act (nothing to do with patriots and everything to do with control).

CNN is of course drooling over all of this with commentator S.E. Cupp (a porn star name if I ever heard one) leading the charge on the right. Fox News will as well to a lesser extent.

Ryan will probably lose his primary fight against his challenger and blame Trump for it, which of course CNN will run with.

I don’t see much coming out of this meeting next week. Trump should bring Manafort with him. Trump should remind Ryan that he rubber stamped Obama’s budget and that’s hardly conservative.

If Ryan doesn’t at least state that he will vote for Trump after that meeting I don’t see much of a future for Ryan. These #NeverTrump morons will be run out of office one by one and that includes McCain as well.

The Paul Ryan stance on not endorsing Donald J. Trump does not require much debate or, discussion. Paul Ryan, like Eric Cantor before him, cannot see the forest for the trees.

I suggest you good folks put on your thinking caps, and go back to the 2012 POTUS race between “Weak Sister” Mitt Romney & “Shadows” “Low Energy” Paul Ryan & “Hate America”, Barack Hussein Obama & “Listless, Moron”, Joe Biden!!!

If you do recall.....Obama & Biden, ate the lunches of Romney & Ryan!!! And.....folks, remember that VP, Joe Biden, “the dumbest humsn being in the universe” destroyed Paul Ryan in the one and only VP TV debate!!!

Bottom line: Mr. Ryan better get out there, in public today and say he is behind DJT, 100%....because the true facts are: Paul Ryan needs Donald J. Trump a million times more the DJT needs “useless Obama lover” Paul Ryan. Mr. Ryan....the clock is ticking...and......millions of voters are watching,......you too......Mr. Ryan can easily become the Eric Cantor of the day!!! What an idiot and buffoon this dude Paul Ryan is!!! And....I ask, where is that weak sister, RNC Chariman, Reince Priebus, who has no backbone whatsoever to bring Paul Ryan into line!!! Shame!!!

As much as I am taking a wait and see attitude with regards to Trump and what he says in the General Election vice the Primaries, the more I read about the Republicans that oppose him, the more I think I will vote for him just to poke a stick in their eye. A large percentage of conservatives are not enamored with Trump, but if the GOPe types keep running their mouths I think conservatives will happily vote for Trump as a vote against them and Hillary. Sheesh this current crop of Republican leaders are just stupid!

Sabato made an interesting comment on FoxNews this morning regarding the Electoral map. He said that following Romney’s example would be a path to another Republican loss, but Trump certainly cannot be accused of following that path.

Sabato went on to say the Trump nomination will change the face of the November election. The pundits/commentators don’t know what to expect or what states might change from ‘blue’ to ‘red’. The so-called experts are clueless, as Trump doesn’t fit their typical mold.

Hemmer then showed a brief clip of Hillary Clinton making the same mistake Cruz made as she screeched “Donald Trump this...” and “Donald Trump that ...”

[Cruz ran AGAINST Trump. Hillary Clinton is now running AGAINST Trump. Trump is running FOR something — to turn the nation in a different direction. Politicians vs a visionary.]
