Rollins: "Asset" Trump Energizing Voters Who Haven't Voted; Take Clinton & Sanders Apart In General
RealClearPolitics ^ | February 23, 2016

Republican campaign veteran Ed Rollins calls Trump an "asset" to the party who is "energizing voters who haven't traditionally voted." However, Rollins said, Trump needs to define what he means when he calls himself a "commonsense conservative."

"I think he carries every state right today that Republicans have been traditionally carrying, which is what Romney did," Rollins aid on FOX News this morning. "He probably puts Michigan in play, which we haven't in a long, long time. Certainly Ohio is the key. Again, he's ahead of a very popular governor we see in the polls. My sense is that Donald is a very combative guy, we've watched that over a period of time, and he will take either one of those candidates apart on the other side."

"He's energizing voters who haven't traditionally voted," Rollins said of Trump. "I think that's a very positive thing. I think at the end of the day he's a very valuable asset to this party. I hope he gets more specific about some of the issues."

Rollins predicts a Cruz victory in Texas and says if Trump wins Florida it is over for Rubio and if he wins Ohio the race is over for Kasich.

"If Trump beats Rubio in Florida, he gets the 99 delegates there, it's over for Rubio. If he beats John Kasich in Ohio, if he is still in the race, it is over for him," said Rollins.

Cruz’s concession speech tonight was taken word for word from Trump speeches and comments.

A pale, sad, pathetic shadow. With comic relief, the guy in the plaid shirt with the Elizabethan collar. WTF was that?

Yes his speech was a clone of Trump’s talking points. But Cruz is considered the conservative.

Nope. Cruz is considered the liar. He is done.

Even the evangelicals want nothing to do with him.

"I hope he gets more specific about some of the issues."

Trump will get more specific but now is not the time. Candidates rarely get specific before they are nominated. It give the opposite party the opportunity to use the specifics as cannon fodder at the convention when the eyes of the country are watching. Trump also knows that you never show your hand to the opposition. It is like playing cards. You never show your hand until the time when it counts: "People can't know exactly what your intentions are. You want to have a certain amount of, you want to have a little bit of guess work for the enemy."

I agree, he's more of a general election guy and he sees the horizon.

Obama has existed as President for 7+ years without being 'specific'. He was even more vague through his whole campaign. It's only in the heavy handed and underhanded implementation that we might find out what's actually happened. ACA is a prime example.

OK folks, this primary stuff will be over very soon.

Let's not forget we're all on the same team.

Cruz is a good guy, he's one of us.

Let's keep our eyes on the prize:

Beating Hillary!

This vote showed that Cruz's image as a liar and one who plays dirty is not going away. The only way he can possibly rehabilitate is to spend four years in the US Senate mentored by Jeff Sessions and helping get Trump's agenda passed. And learning to not be despised by so many who come into contact with him.

In my area of Florida its solid Trump country. Ive yet to meet or even hear of someone that wants Rubio...or Bush for that matter. Cruz isnt very popular but folks say they would vote for him in the general. What is interesting is the number of folks that are registered Democrat that will cross over and vote against hillary. I think we may see a movement of Jewish voters go to Trump.
Just my thoughts.

I agree.

It's amazing that Trump was able to pain Ted Cruz of all people as a dirty trickster and a liar.

Is it true? Heck no.

Was it fair? No way.

The point I've been trying to make about Cruz for months is that he is a bad campaigner and doesn't know how to fight.

Trump labeled him as a liar weeks ago and and Cruz has been completely feckless in trying to make it go away.

The "Bible and Constitution Roadshow" was a bad idea as a campaign strategy.
