Flint water crisis: residents say Hillary Clinton ‘coming for the entertainment’
The Manchester Guardian ^ | February 7, 2016 | Lucia Graves in Flint, Michigan

Hillary Clinton has made every effort to make Flint her own. The water crisis afflicting this predominantly black Michigan city - ignored by Washington politicians for years - has become another battlefield in a progressive war between Clinton and Bernie Sanders. Race, class and the environment matter again in an issues-based, neck-and-neck race for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Looking past Tuesday's primary in New Hampshire, where Sanders is tipped to win, and toward the March primary states where she will be counting on African American support, Clinton made a symbolic campaign stop here on Sunday.

"I feel blessed to be here but I wish it were for a different reason," she said, as she took to the stage at the House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church, flanked by purple-robed members of a choir and surrounded by a sea of nodding heads.

"But I am here because for nearly two years mothers and fathers were voicing concerns about the water's color and its smell, about the rashes that it gave to those that were bathing in it. And for nearly two years Flint was told the water was safe."

Her words drew applause and shouts of amen. But though Clinton supporters turned up for Sunday's service, simply identifying the problem was not enough for some....

“Flint should start making the repairs you need to restore safe water as soon as possible.” — brilliance from The Smartest Woman Ever

She also said she’d “fight” for them? How is this a Fed problem? If so, where’s her dear leader Obama?

It’s a Federal problem because the EPA helped the state of Michigan to cover it up.

Switching to the Flint river was a local idea and not necessarily a bad idea but they didn’t know what they were doing. A $125 per day anti corrosive agent added to the water would have prevented this.

Its kind of like a heart transplant. Its a fairly simple straightforward procedure but you’re not going to let your neighbor do it even if he is a really good plumber.

How is it that black churches aren’t stripped of their tax exempt status for openly engaging in political activity. I don’t see republican candidates campaigning in churches anywhere.

How did they get away with blaming the Republican Governor. Katrina was local and they blamed Bush.

I knew something was wrong yesterday when all the dogs in the neighborhood started howling, my clocks arms were going backwards and the sky was an amber tint.

Glad she didn’t stay too long.

Don’t let the facts get in the Way...It’s got to be Repbulican’s fault.

30k a year they couldn’t afford to keep their water clean. Pathetic!

Same thing, 40+ years of Rat Control and when infrastructure issues come up it’s always someone else’s fault.

Plenty of blame to go around in Flint, from a Republican governor that accepted responsibility to his Democrat emergency manager, the Democrat city council and the Republican Michigan EPA equivalent, who along with the Democrat Obama administration bungled the transition from Detroit water to Flint River water.

Of course, though, for the Democrats, they have to blame anyone other than themselves.

At the end of the day, government failed. Period.

A few months back Coleman Young Jr voted (he’s a state rep) voted to make water free for Detroiters then turned around the very next day and voted to approve a rate increase for everybody else.

I can’t really blame Flint or anyone else for wanting to get away from the Detroit water service. Of course when Detroit found out that Flint was cutting the chord, Detroit voted to end their contract about a year before Flint could have made the change effectively.

It’s a Federal problem because the EPA helped the state of Michigan to cover it up.

It's a state issue because Michigan controls its own water systems. The EPA found out about the problem and could have publicized it a few months earlier but the state bears the ultimate responsibility.

Switching to the Flint river was a local idea and not necessarily a bad idea but they didn't know what they were doing.

It was an interim solution. Flint joined another partnership to bring water in from Lake Huron instead of buying it from Detroit. Detroit Water got into a snit and ended the contract at the end of 2014 when the solution wasn't going to be ready until 2016. The only alternative was the Flint River. So it's a Democrat/Republican/state/federal blame game.

The EPA actively worked to help discredit their own expert and barred him from communicating to the people of Flint. They even apologized because his info got out. MDEQ owns the issue and committed fraud to hide the issue, but the EPA was complicit in the cover up.

That's exactly what she's doing. And then a month from now we'll see commercials depicting her as being the-- hero!
Conniving slug.
