I think we all opposed McCain. Then he became the nominee, and picked Sarah Palin (who helped the ticket, contrary to what the media would like you to believe.) Then most people were reluctantly on board.

Well, Bush was a “conservative” — just ask him.

Look, I like Trump. I’m originally from New York, and I know all the good things he’s done for the city and state — and other communities where he’s been a developer. (And we must acknowledge that he’s had his share of failures, like any businessman.)

I think a lot of what Trump says is very good. But we also must acknowledge that at least some of it contradicts long-held positions. We rightly criticized Mittens for flip-flopping like that, but somehow if you make the same point about Trump, you’r working for the Washington cartel — even though it’s true. And too many of his supporters (not all) twist themselves around like pretzels to defend him blindly, no matter what he says or does or what he said or did in the past.

That’s exactly the same kind of cult of personality that we all find so offensive about 0bama. As bad as G.W. Bush was in many ways, he never really had that cult of personality around him. (Sanders has it too, BTW. So does Hillary.)

Our job is to find the most conservative candidate who is viable and nominate that person, then campaign hard to make sure we get the most conservative president possible.

That decision should be made not on a cult of personality nor on bombastic rhetoric, but on the record of the candidates. The mere fact that someone prefers a different candidate than you do does not make them liberal trolls or agents of the Uniparty.

There is no 100 percent perfect candidate. There are things about Trump’s record that should be disturbing to any constitutionalist conservative. We need to give his record a full examination, good and bad, as we do for any other candidate, and not beat up on people for raising issues that might not put him in a great light.

If he still comes out looking like the best candidate to you, that’s your choice. But please know WHY you’re making that choice and please look at the full record before you commit to it.

And if someone else looks like the best candidate to another poster, that’s good too, and we should be able to debate, compare and contrast, and discuss without the vitriol that too many members of the cult of personality are throwing at anyone who dares criticize “their guy.”

Stop it — that’s what liberals do. Let’s not be like them.

Trump has the most conservative policy objectives of anyone running.

No, he actually doesn't. He is conservative on some things, including a few important ones. But he is quite liberal on a number of things.

The most consistent conservative in the race is Ted Cruz.

Trump himself has dismissed the effect of cancellations and boycotts and claimed no serious economic loss and even boasts of economic gain. Rather than making a sacrifice, Trump declares that he has in effect enhanced The Donald Brand.

He was under armed protection as a multibillionaire long before he ran for president and acquired at taxpayers expense the finest protection available in the world.

As Trump's meanness reveals, as Trump's cynical participation in crony capitalism confirms, as Trump's greed and selfishness in his serial bankruptcies make indisputably clear, Donald Trump has never sacrificed anything of his own except to advance a very personal and very selfish ambition.

Why do you resort to personal attacks against fellow conservatives? If you want to support Trump you can vote for him and even advocate on his behalf but there is no decent reason to ape his character flaws and engaged in serial personal attacks.

As recently as August, he was talking about a path for illegals.

He has praised single-payer healthcare, as recently as the first GOP debate. (And in his book, “The America We Deserve”.)

He’s a supporter of using eminent domain to take property and turn it over to developers.

He told Sean Hannity that he was against fully defunding Planned Parenthood.

He supports bailouts, too-big-to-fail and big, taxpayer-funded government intervention in dying industries.

In 1999, Trump suggested the government collect $5.7 trillion in new revenue by levying a one-time tax on all individuals and trusts worth more than $10 million.

He can’t make up his mind on ISIS, saying he would “bomb the s—t out of them” but also saying “it’s not our fight” and we should let Russia do it.

Those are a few of his “progressive” policies.

Lowering the top rate from 39.6 percent to 25 percent and creating a large zero bracket. The plan would also reform the business tax code by reducing the income tax on all businesses to 15 percent and eliminate business tax expenditures, including deferral and interest deductions. In addition, the plan would eliminate the Estate Tax and the Alternative Minimum Tax. And lower all other tax bracket rates. Resulting in cutting taxes by $11.98 trillion over the next decade. No wonder you hate Trump...are you a Yeb boy or a Hilliary groupie? Maybe a Bernie bot, he loves higher taxes.

Not just leagl immigrants. The question was about what to do with illegals.

Trump has rpeatedly prasied single payer, government health care — not private enterprise solutions. He’s started talking about those lately, but it’s a recent development.

I heard the interview about PP. he told Sean that he they do a lot of good (really, Donald? Name one thing) and he didn’t want to defund that.

He is a fan of Big Government ins many aspects of our lives. The Trump supporters should simply acknowledge that and explain why they support him anyway (he does have a few good things going for him). No candidate is 100 percent, down the line perfect.

Instead, too many on this site (Greetings_puny_Human is a prime example) will not brook the slightest criticism and throw invective around, instead of simply acknowledging the truth.
