Last Iowa poll had Cruz up 5% in Iowa so not that farfetched. I would note that Trump dropped his banning Muslim bomb the afternoon the poll was released, to grab the headlines and bury the poll showing him losing Iowa.

Great tactic by Trump. but he recognizes that IF he loses in Iowa the whole bombastic narrative of his being a winner changes.

We shall see. Cruz has the money and organization to go deep into the primaries. A lot of candidates will be out before March 1. 3 man debates between Trump, Rubio and Cruz will be very interesting.

Yes we shall see and personally I like Cruz but as I have repeatedly posted he is too conservative for the average GOP voter. This is why he is not polling very well except in a couple of polls in Iowa. He’s have a hard time climbing over a flawed candidate like Rubio so catching up to Trump is just not looking likely.

Trump has broad appeal and is more likely to run the table for the nomination and win the general election.

Trump supports a temporary ban on Muslim immigration & Cruz does not.
Basically you are misinformed. In fact Cruz was there first. Trump had to back away from his extreme and over-broad first statement and there is very little air between the positions of both men on this issue.

Meanwhile, Cruz is positioned to take the Iowa caucuses even if he were 5% behind in the polling. But he is not. He is leading in Iowa and his real lead on caucus night will surprise many, you for sure, and maybe even me.

Cruz may win Iowa...but I don’t see him making a run in any other state.

Your crystal ball may be better polished than mine.

Time is the revelator: eventually all will become clear.

Until then, I know who I support, and support him I will, right up to the end, in whatever form the end may take. Victory is the goal, the purpose and the motivator.

Trump has a very good ground team in Iowa led by Chuck Laudner who helped Santorum win.

You are STILL making a big mistake if you think Trump beats Cruz's ground game in Iowa. Even with Laudner on board.

Well we will see on Feb 1st. Trump is a guy who is used to winning. I expect him to pull out all the stops and most reports say he has one of the best ground teams in Iowa.

Trump is a very thorough planner, and I doubt he would neglect his ground game in a state like Iowa where it is so critical. I have no doubt that he is paying close attention to this. Still I think Cruz is better organized, spent more time on this, built a more robust organization, and will also play to win.

As you say, we’ll know more on February 1.

You probably realize that I support Ted Cruz. Nevertheless, should Cruz’s campaign ultimately fail, and Trump’s wins, I will have no problem backing Trump as my second choice. But that remains a long way off, if ever.
