If you thought Ted Cruz was going away anytime soon, Iâve got some bad news. The singularly annoying obstructionist has real staying power, and heâs as well-positioned as any of the candidates moving forward. The more Cruz irks his opponents, the more he grandstands, the more entrenched and profitable his campaign becomes.
Even Cruzâs Republican colleagues appear resigned to this fact. âTed Cruz has been branded a âwacko birdâ by a Senate colleague,â write Katie Zezima and David Weigel in the Washington Post. âA GOP consultant labeled him a show horse, and a strategist for a rival presidential campaign call him the Mitt Romney of 2016 â the Republican no other Republican can stand.â
Harsh words indeed, but none of this matters to Cruz. He knows heâs hated by his colleagues in the Senate and by establishment Republicans in general. But this is a good thing for Cruz. Being loathed by those responsible for governing plays right into his âoutsiderâ narrative. When then-Speaker Boehner called Cruz a âjackassâ earlier this year, he responded by saying, âI will wear it as a badge of honor because I refuse to join their club.â The âclub,â I presume, is everyone in Washington making a serious effort to navigate the challenges of policymaking in a partisan climate.
Understanding this is key to understanding Cruzâs appeal. Thereâs a huge swath of the conservative base that doesnât want to fix Washington so much as explode it....

Actually the “badge of honor” here is Cruz’s. That the Marxists at Salon hate him is resume enhancement for Cruz
Consider the source.
Not seeing a problem. Two birds, one stone. America wins.
If the douchebags at salon are carping about someone, they’re doing something right.
Since when is Salon concerned about the Republican Party going down in flames?
More like an endorsement for a wingnut such as I.
More psychobabble from a moron over at da Saloon. These commie wannabes need to worry about Clinton’s genitals. It’s starting to look like they aren’t going to pull it off for Clinton II.
Good. I loathe the GOP. Cruz is who I'm voting for, you Salon liar.
Romney and Boner hate Cruz.
Yet another case of the libs telling us who frightens them the most...
Actually I agree. There are WAY TOO MANY ILLEGALS embedded in this country for Cruz to win.
What needs to happen is that Trump CLEARS THEM OUT, and then Cruz gets to voted on by Americans, and AMERICANS ONLY, in 8 years...or maybe 4 years, up to Trump.
Right now, like it or now, Cruz gets CRUSHED in a general election.
LOL!!! Salon...
Something about Cruz has always kind of rubbed me the wrong way, tbh; however, as we near the primaries, I find myself more and more coming around to him. Up to this point there are three candidates (with a legitimate shot at the nomination, that is) that I would enthusiastically support - he’s edged his way into that group to make it four.
Boner? He is gone. You must know that by now.

Most Boss’ hate when their workers don’t follow their rules. That is why McConnell especially hates Cruz. He doesn’t follow rules of the Senate and he hates that.
Salon is worried that the Ted Cruz is going to ruin the chances of the GOP!
Isn’t that sweet of them?
