2016 Elections: Why This Year is the Time To Focus on Asian American Voter Power
Asian Fortune ^ | April 21, 2015 | Jennie Ilustre

Next year, the country will elect a new president. But next year is already here. Notice how candidates are already positioning themselves for the primaries and caucuses? It is urgent that now–not next year–is when all candidates must realize that American voters of Asian and Pacific heritage will play a major role in the 2016 elections.

Republican Jeb Bush was first at the gate, albeit unofficially, in next year’s presidential elections. Bush is of course, former Florida governor and son and brother of two former presidents. In a crowded Republican field, Senator Ted Cruz was the first to officially launch his candidacy in March.

In the Democratic Party, Hillary Clinton is expected to formally announce her candidacy this month. The likely theme: The country already elected its first-ever black president–why not the first woman president? Supporters tout her experience as an elected and appointive official. Hillary is a former senator and former secretary of state. She is also a former First Lady.

The Mainstream Media report that the Democratic Party does not seem inclined to have a Plan B Candidate. Yet the party’s progressive wing is trying to urge Senator Elizabeth Warren to throw her hat in the ring. At this point, Warren has demurred from taking up the challenge. The media, such as it is, view a Hillary coronation as boring. They relish a messy fight in the primaries for both parties....

Why would any Asian or Jewish person be democrat? It makes no sense. Asians align with the Black Caucus!! Why? They have nothing in common!!
I cant imagine the younger generation voting dem.
My grandparents, Italian immigrants, were democrats. My father was not. Those old school folks from the old land believed in socialism. They carried it to America like the Asians do. But I cant imagine it will last. Unless they just want a pity party.
The Jewish people, they are such an asset to this country except in their voting. Many of them tell me the holocaust has made them very sensitive to social injustice.
They cant see the harm being done to blacks. They think they are helping but they're not.
We MUST get to 40 percent on these two groups.

Jews in America have always been left wing, since the 1800s, so it isn’t recent.

Asians used to be republican. “”In the span of twenty years, the Asian American presidential vote went from solidly Republican to a Democratic lock. Republican President H.W. Bush won the Asian vote by 24 points in 1992. Democratic President Obama won the Asian vote by 47 points in 2012.””

Blacks switched from republican to democrat in 1936.

WOW! Thanks for the knowledge. Why have Jews always been democrats? Doesn't make sense for such hard working successful people to want to give their tax money away or leave dangerous people on the streets to hurt them. Sheldon Silver, who is now under indictment, was SO pro criminal I didn't understand
And what happened to Asians that changed their mind. They have NOTHING in common with the other minorities except a perceived victim-hood is all I can think of. But they have gotten killed and attacked by Obama's sons a lot in new york

For the Jews socialism.

For Asians, it’s harder to say, when people say “Asian” they are speaking of widely diverse groups of people who don’t even share a language, or culture.

Why do Asians become republicans when they become Evangelicals?

If a candidate can get 70% of the white vote, the “minority vote” becomes irrelevant

The problem today is that most times the white vote is split 50/50. Then the minority block (blacks - 97% democrat) come into play.

Most Jews are secular and liberal. The more religious Jews vote GOP.

Any group that favors the left wing, and frankly knows little to nothing about US conservatism save the leftists’ lies (and also are possessed with prejudice against Christianity and Christians), will vote for the more radical leftists.

The Hispanic population in Texas is mostly Mexican or of Mexican descent, unlike Florida, where Jeb and Marco are from. “Cuban-American” Ted Cruz won over 40% of the Hispanic vote 3 years ago. All else being equal, do you know what you call a Republican who can garner 40% of the Latino vote in a national election?

Re: “And what happened to Asians that changed their mind?”

As recently as 1996, Bob Dole got a majority of Asian votes against Bill Clinton.

“What happened” is that 20 years of massive LEGAL immigration happened.

The dominant Asian voter groups are now Asian Indians (90% Democrat) and Chinese (75% Democrat).

Most Filipinos do not consider themselves to be Asian, but I think they have been the #2 largest LEGAL immigrant group for several years now, just behind Mexicans.

Filipinos vote about 55% Democrat.

The excitement that 2014 Hispanic and Asian voter polls have generated for the GOP is completely misplaced.

Conservative voters, regardless of ethnicity, have the highest voter turnout in almost every election.

Thus, whenever voter turnout is unusually low for Hispanics and Asians and Blacks, like in 2010 and 2014, that means the GOP is going to do very well.

Whenever Hispanic and Asian and Black voters turn out at unusually high rates, like in 2008 and 2012, that means the GOP will almost certainly lose.
