Ted Cruz and the Media
The New York Times' The Upshot ^ | March 27, 2015 | David Leonhardt

Posted on 03/27/2015 9:22:13 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Ted Cruz received almost 4.5 million votes in the 2012 Texas Senate election, which he won in a landslide. Millions more Americans, outside Texas, agree with his aggressive brand of conservatism. He has been one of the most influential figures in Congress lately, and this week he became the first major candidate to announce an official 2016 presidential campaign.

He also has virtually no chance of winning the Republican nomination, let alone of becoming president.

So what are we in the media supposed to do about Mr. Cruz’s candidacy? He is, on the one hand, a major figure in American politics, with a dedicated following. On the other hand, many leading figures in the Republican Party — people who control money and influence voters — believe Mr. Cruz would severely damage the party’s chances of winning in 2016 and will fight against his candidacy if he becomes a serious threat.

And he probably won’t ever become such a threat anyway. In early polls, Mr. Cruz trails other likely candidates by a wide margin. The prediction markets tracked by PredictWise give Mr. Cruz a 1.9 percent chance — even less, at last check, than Rick Perry’s odds — of being the nominee. Those markets have a strong historical record, with the notable exception that they often exaggerate the chances of long shots....

They sure are "spilling a lot of ink" trying to convince us that he has no chance at the nomination. Why would that be?

“In early polls, Mr. Cruz trails other likely candidates by a wide margin.”

And the polling numbers for Obama even one year into his candidacy?

Cruz was at 3% at this point in his senate nomination race.

“So what are we in the media supposed to do about Mr. Cruz’s candidacy?”

This is such a telling article. They don’t make any pretense at fulfilling their actual mission which is to report.

Notice how he uses the word “threat” when a neutral term such as “contender” or “candidate” is more appropriate.

[Ted Cruz Praises Obamacare, Says He Saved Nearly 20% On Health Insurance]

Another reporter asked the republican Senator from Texas if he still planned to repeal Obamacare if he wins in 2016. “I’m not… I’m pretty sure that’s still going to happen. Our experience was a fluke, I think. We know that most people, most Obamacare users, they don’t have this kind of experience with the exchanges.

I need to do some more research into it, but as it stands, yes, we’re going to repeal it on day one when I’m president.”

The "article" was originally in the National Report, which states the following disclaimer:

"National Report is a news and political satire web publication, which may or may not use real names, often in semi-real or mostly fictitious ways. All news articles contained within National Report are fiction, and presumably fake news. Any resemblance to the truth is purely coincidental."

It is funny. Yesterday, he was a “firebrand”. AP, Reuters, National Review, NPR, Slate, just to name a few, called him that. I guess this weekend they will be saying he has no chance. Googling “Ted Cruz No Chance” gets 25 million + results. But they will tell us all day long that Jeb Bush has the best chance of winning the GOP nomination, and that Jeb Bush is “the most electable”. That is the media game.

They are all reading the same script, designed to help us make the best decision on our candidate for President. They so kindly helped us out with picking Dole, GW Bush, McCain and Romney. Bush only won by the barest of margins, such that they called the election stolen for 8 years. As soon as Jeb gets nominated, we are going to find out everything we never knew about Terry Schiavo. That, and the fact that it was Florida where Jeb Bush was governor when he helped his brother steal the election of 2000 from Al Gore.

Of course, when we pick the one they decided on for us as our best choice, they will proceed to demolish him. Ted Cruz has the best chance of actually winning, and they really want us to run with the electable Jeb Bush, because it makes their job so much easier.

I want to see their crystal ball. Cruz is telling America what we want to hear
and will enact those actions in Office.

When Bush43 took office the MSM cried about all the parties and dinners they'd miss.
Yea, the grownups need to take charge of the Frat house and turn it back into a
place of Patriotic American leadership. And I want to see people in prison!
