President Obama called Harry Reid, the Senate majority leader, to broach a particularly delicate subject. It was during last year’s government shutdown and standoff with Republicans, but Mr. Obama’s frustration focused on one of their own. The president said he suspected David Krone, Mr. Reid’s intensely loyal and influential top aide, of leaking to the news media, and requested that he stay away from future meetings.
It did not take much time for the president’s comments to reach Mr. Reid’s right-hand man. To Mr. Obama’s surprise, Mr. Krone was listening in on the call. Suddenly, the aide piped up and made it clear to the president that he did not appreciate the accusation.
On Friday, Mr. Obama and Mr. Reid traveled to Nevada, a trip that allowed the president to promote his executive action on immigration and the senator to unofficially start his re-election campaign. The public harmony contrasts with the private discord between the two men and their staffs, much of which has centered on Mr. Krone, a wealthy former cable executive whose defining principle is to defend Mr. Reid at all costs....

I think 90% of the Democrats problem is Obama. He’s their Albatross and hopefully millstone for 2016.

Krone’s wife just left the White House. Here is a description of her position.
“Ms. Mastromonaco has the lowest profile of that original Obama brain trust, which included Mr. Rouse, David Axelrod, Robert Gibbs and David Plouffe. One reason: Only Mr. Rouse is as reticent with reporters. (Ms. Mastromonaco declined to speak on the record for this article.)
Since January 2005, Ms. Mastromonaco not only has managed Mr. Obama’s schedule and global travel — like secret trips to Afghanistan and Iraq, and the election-eve tour of damage from Hurricane Sandy with Gov. Chris Christie, Republican of New Jersey — but also has had a voice in the strategy behind it all.
“She is not just somebody who says, ‘We have to get from A to B,’ ” Mr. Rouse said. “She’s a person who says, ‘We have to get from A to B, and on the way, here are the problems we’re going to have, here are the challenges we have, here are the opportunities.”
Is this the NYT’s attempt to rehabilitate Reid before 2016, when he has to face the voters?
It appears to me from reading this that Reid is nothing but a senile old bat who is propped up by Krone. Without Krone, Reid will be seen as nothing but a drooling, incompetent fool.

Majority Leader Harry Reid’s chief of staff, David Krone, left a highly lucrative gig at Comcast before working for the Senator. As part of his exit from the company, he’s collected $1.2 million in additional payment since taking his job with Reid.
Mr. Krone, for example, earned about $165,000 working for Mr. Reid (D., Nev.) in 2009, public records indicate. In 2008, he earned nearly $3 million from Comcast, not including the $1.2 million condo payment he received after starting with Mr. Reid. There is no evidence that Mr. Reid has done anything in particular to benefit Comcast since Mr. Krone came to work for him.

Meet the missus ....
It was Mastromonaco who orchestrated presidential trips to Iraq and Afghanistan, and who skillfully and secretly set up meetings between Obama and his potential vice presidential picks even as the press watched the campaign’s every move. She’s been with Obama since his days in the Senate.
By all accounts, her White House titles — deputy chief of staff for operations for the past three years, and scheduling director before that — do not fully convey Ms. Mastromonaco’s role in helping decide how Mr. Obama spends his time, whom he sees, where he goes and whom he appoints.
“She has a power that is relatively scary to people,” said one Democratic activist who declined to be identified.
Nor do the titles hint at Ms. Mastromonaco’s close relationships with both the president and Michelle Obama, after coordinating their lives for so long.
“She’s like family to them,” said Pete Rouse, another of the original circle and Ms. Mastromonaco’s mentor, who left in December. In the 2010 magazine interview, she repeatedly referred to the president as “Barack,” a familiarity almost unheard-of among aides to any president. (Colleagues say she calls him “Mr. President.”)

Ms. Mastromonaco was a bridge to some senators long before she married David Krone, chief of staff to Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the majority leader. They took two days off in November to be married by Justice Elena Kagan at the Supreme Court, witnessed only by Ms. Mastromonaco’s aides.

Alyssa Mastromonaco joins Vice Media

Vice Media has named former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Alyssa Mastromonaco as their newest Chief Operating Officer, the company announced Sunday evening.
Mastromonaco, one of President Barack Obama’s longest-serving staffers from his days in the Senate, left the White House in May and had taken a position as contributing editor at Marie Claire. She will assume her new role with Vice in January.
Vice’s current COO, Richard Waterlow, will be taking on the role of President of Vice International. Mastromonaco will oversee operations for all of Vice’s divisions and platforms and will work on the expansion of the company’s network of channels, partnerships and joint ventures.
