GOP Front-Runner Compares Gay Marriage to Polygamy
Mother Jones ^ | June 23, 2014 | Erika Eichelberger

Last week, a top GOP House candidate in Washington state compared gay marriage to polygamy.

"Marriage is something more for religion to decide," Republican front-runner Pedro Celis said Thursday when asked about his stance on same-sex marriage at a GOP candidate forum, the Seattle Times reported. "Is this marriage or not? Polygamy—is it fine or not? It's a religion thing."

The National Republican Congressional Committee has backed Celis, a former Microsoft engineer, to run against Democratic Rep. Suzan DelBene in Washington's first congressional district. DelBene is expected to hold onto her seat in November, but national Republicans are trying extra hard to change that. The NRCC recently bumped Celis into the highest tier of its candidate recruitment and training program. Celis is now a "Young Gun," meaning that the committee considers him to be on a "clear path to victory."

In 2012, Celis voted against Washington's initiative to legalize gay marriage. He says same-sex marriage issues are best left to the states.

Celis wasn't the only one to express interesting views on same-sex marriage at Thursday's event. Another GOP contender, former county council staffer Ed Moats, said "homosexual marriage" is "anthropologically regressive." The Republican primary will be held on August 5.

Before this event, Celis had said his campaign was focused on Obamacare and jobs.

A man who wants to marry more than one woman is a lot closer to normal than a sexually confused man who lets another man stick his johnson in his arse.

If I had two wives I’d be pissed at being compared to such deviants (and I’d be aweful tired)

He isn’t wrong. If Gay Marriage is OK, so is Polygamous Marriage and Incestuous Marriage.

After all, as long as people love each other, what’s the problem.

I actually had a conversation with a very Liberal Gal about this. She started off with the Gay Marriage is a Civil Right. I told her Civil Rights are based on Race, Creed or Color, not lifestyle choices.

Of course she cringed at the words “lifestyle choice”. Before she went off on that, I told her if she supported Gay Marriage, she had to support other choices including Polygamous and Incestuous Marriage.

She really got pissed, so I asked her what she was mad at. I was not only supporting her Gay Marriage stand, I was expanding it so she wouldn’t end up being a Hater. End of conversation...

One other thing. Always mention that Evil Dick Cheney supported Gay Marriage for years while Biden and Obama were still Haters. That really pisses them off, which makes me joyful.

It’s a good comparison, actually. The courts have not favored polygamists the way they have same sex marriage, but these rulings have consequences outside of the courtroom. Once it becomes socially acceptable to redefine something as unchanging as the definition of marriage, it becomes vulnerable to any group seeking to present itself as an alternative to tradition.

I know this is not the thread to gripe about Cochran, but ...this is the thread I’m on.

In any event, it seems that nowadays the biggest similarity between the Republicans and the Democrats is that both strongly oppose conservatives. The only difference is that Democrats oppose Republicans in addition to conservatives. (Republicans of course do not return the favor...as they only really oppose conservatives).

That’s sort of the way I see things right now.

Celis’ view isn’t “interesting”. It’s truth. What’s interesting is the Left doesn’t see the comparison at all.

Also evident, they are wanting all conservatives to be Duck Dynasty so badly.

If you can't see the problem, then you are part of the problem.

The hunt for offensive soundbites is in full swing. What the candidates said is rational and reasonable once you get past the lede.

Since Obama is a disgrace and the democrats have been the party of nothing for 14 years now, the media knows what they have to do. Make the campaign about anything other than the issues.

I can’t remember where I read it, but there was a Supreme Court decision a long time ago against polygamy. The underlying reasoning was that a polygamous marriage would necessarily have two members of the same sex, which was not allowed. Now all that reasoning is out the window. Based on that legal reasoning, there is nothing preventing eventual legal polygamy should those few who want it are willing to pursue it back to the court.

I’ve said it before, if you allow gay marriage then you must allow me to marry several of my female cousins (and allow Senator Cochran to marry his HS sweetheart, Bessie the Cow), it’s only fair.

So, WA-1, I was very disappointed that John Koster wasn’t able to win the seat last time. Pedro Celis is the only real Republican candidate. DelBene has a LOT more money than him.

We’re all a bit touchy my FRiend.

Never in my 60+ Years would I have imagined what is happening to my Country. The rub is, nobody cares.
