Scary Cruz control (Ted Cruz not falling in line like McCain/Rubio/Grahamnesty)
The Washington Post ^ | April 19, 2013 | Dana Milbank

Is there nobody who can tell Ted Cruz to shut up?

The young senator from Texas has been on the job for about 100 days, but he has already turned the Senate’s ancient seniority system upside down and is dominating his senior Republican colleagues. He’s speaking for them on immigration, guns and any other topic that tickles his fancy; Republican leaders are seething at being outshone yet are terrified of challenging him.

Consider his news conference this week to promote the Republican alternative to gun control. With Cruz on the stage in the Senate TV studio: the bill’s primary author, Chuck Grassley of Iowa, a 32-year Senate veteran and longtime chairman or ranking member of the finance and judiciary committees; Lindsey Graham of South Carolina (10 years in the Senate and eight in the House); and Dan Coats of Indiana (12 years in the Senate and eight in the House).

But Cruz took over the lectern and refused to relinquish it. He spoke 2,924 words for the cameras, more than Grassley (904), Graham (1,376) and Coats (360) — combined. Factoring in his dramatic pauses to convey sincerity and deep thought, Cruz’s dominance was even more lopsided. The others shifted uncomfortably and looked awkwardly around the room. At one point, Graham requested a chance to speak. “Can I?” he asked Cruz.

Cruz is 42, the same age Joe McCarthy was when he amassed power in the Senate with his allegations of communist infiltration....

Cruz knows he was born in Canada and says he does qualify.

So because his mother, a life-long American citizen, gave birth to him while working in Canada, he’s a....what?....a Canadian?

Do some research. And while you’re at it, as I mentioned, be sure to look up what Cruz says about it. And try to remember he knows a tad bit about the Constitution.

Boy this gets tiresome on every Ted Cruz thread.

John F. Kennedy was 42 when he ran for President and 43 when he took office.

“GOP lawmakers encouraged the rise of the tea party...”

They did, but not in the way I think this clown is thinking. The Republican leaders encouraged the rise of the Tea Party by treating conservatives like shit, to the point of picking sides and spending money in PRIMARY CONTESTS.

Grassley was smart like a fox wanting Cruz to present this type of bill to the public.

For the reasons you mentioned and more.

“John F. Kennedy was 42 when he ran for President and 43 when he took office.”

And this country has been in a downhill spiral since.

As of 2008 being born abroad is no longer an impediment to the Presidency.

I guess you didn't get the memo. That only applies to Democrats. All others need not apply.

No, Joe McCarthy was a Senator.

Which is one of things that makes the liberals trying to pin HCUA on him so funny.

Yeah, shut up America! Stop voicing your opinion if it isn’t shared by Obama.

Cruz’s claim that he is eligible to run for President is based on the Founders and the defintion of “natural-born citizen”. According to him, natural-born means a citizen at birth, as opposed to later becoming a citizen by the immigration and naturalization law.

He claims citizenship at birth, having been born to a fully, unequivocally American citizen mother, who happened to be working in Canada at the moment of his birth.

It is that parental status, rather than on which side of a border, that he relies on along with the Founders intent by using the term “natural-born”.

Not one “i” or “t” of HIS claim rests on what happened with other candidates, or has anything to do with 2008 or any other year.

It’s perhaps too early to say this, but people like Ted Cruz would make me consider joining the Republican party.

No kidding. Cruz is doing what the people who voted for him want him to do. It’s a bad thing for a Senator to do the job he was sent to do? My, my....says a lot about the whiners.

Oh, you KNOW they're terrified of they guy when they start whipping out the McCarthy comparisons. Problem is, they're associating him with a guy I think they unfairly skewered in public opinion, so it really doesn't help anyway.

Don't get yourselves all lathered up over my comment. If Cruz says he meets the definition of "natural born citizen" then I'll defer to him. I just never heard him comment on the issue. I would certainly vote for him if he ran.
