Maybe Mitt Romney Doesn't Blame His Loss on Chris Christie After All (Gives max to his campaign)
Slate ^ | February 28, 2013 | Josh Voorhees

Here's something of a surprise given Chris Christie's last-second Sandy-fueled embrace of President Obama during the final days of the 2012 presidential election, via Politico:

Romney, whose supporters and aides were furious that Christie complimented the president’s response to Hurricane Sandy, has given the maximum contribution possible, $3,800, to the New Jersey governor’s reelection bid, a source familiar with the donation said.

We probably shouldn't make too much of a $3,800 check—Romney didn't exactly have to sit down with his family and rework his budget to carve out the cash, and he's cut plenty of such checks in the past—but it's nonetheless a significant gesture given his campaign staff made no secret that they thought the New Jersey governor played a major role in deciding the election, and not in the way they would have liked. Here's how they explained things to the New York Times in the weeks after their Election Day loss:

Inside the Romney campaign, there is little doubt that Mr. Christie’s expressions of admiration for the president, coupled with ubiquitous news coverage of the hurricane’s aftermath, raised Mr. Obama’s standing at a crucial moment.

During a lengthy autopsy of their campaign, Mr. Romney’s political advisers pored over data showing that an unusually large number of voters who remained undecided until the end of the campaign backed Mr. Obama. Many of them cited the storm as a major factor in their decision, according to a person involved in the discussion. "Christie," a Romney adviser said, "allowed Obama to be president, not a politician."(continued)

Christie is toast in 2016, IMHO. Maybe just wishful thinking.

$3800 to someone of Romney’s asset portfolio is like buying Christie a Starbucks coffee to the rest of us.

The GOP-e have already decided 2016 will be Bush-Christie.

That’s why Romney is falling in line.

It isn’t whether he can afford it, it is that the donation was large and real, he meant it.

Romney did not accidentally donate 3800 dollars to Christie’s political future.

Romney’s campaign manager Matt Rhoades married a Christie operative last summer (when he should have been working on Romney’s campaign and getting ORCA to work) and she will most likely work for Christie’s primary campaign. Romney knows the GOP-e have decided 2016 will be Bush-Christie and he’s falling in line so he can be a part of the campaign.

Bunch of crap

There's no way that that many people were still undecided, or switched votes because of Cristie\Sandy, to make a difference.

I believe it. Five point swings happened late in the campaign. Romney gained at least five points after the first debate. Zero gained five after Sandy. The bump was beginning to wear off after three days, according to the tracking polls, but it was too late.

Remember that many people are paying attention in the final week, and getting their news from the LSM. All they saw were pictures of Zippy in his presidentin’ jacket.

Hey Mitt. Be a man and admit that you lost the race because you were a bad candidate and you were only a proxy.

The places it mattered ?
no way OH\PA\WVA\FL swung that much. (Well, maybe Florida) They were already there before Sandy.
Anybody on the fence or that switched because of Sandy in a solid RAT state ? didn't matter.
