Rove & Carville Analyze 2012 Election
Real Clear Politics ^ | November 14, 2012 | Alexis Simendinger

Posted on 11/14/2012 7:13:08 AM PST by Sir Napsalot

NAPLES, Fla. -- Karl Rove on Tuesday argued that President Obama won re-election despite his weaknesses with voters because Mitt Romney was a so-so candidate lured by the media into conservative positions during the GOP primaries.

....

“Romney unwisely went to the right on immigration,” he told financial industry experts attending the Global Financial Leadership Conference organized by the CME Group at a luxury hotel here.

....

(snip) Carville noted that 56 percent of voters believed the country was on the wrong track, according to polling, and unemployment hovered near 8 percent on Election Day, “and you honestly didn’t come close.”

Republicans cannot win future elections if the majority of young people and non-white voters back Democrats. The question Rove and his fellow conservatives should be asking, Carville advised, is not what was flawed about Romney or the media but “is there something wrong with what you’re putting out there?”

The audience applauded loudly.

Rove, shuffling through a red folder of election data in his lap, agreed that the GOP in 2016 should nominate “a modernist” who can discuss an issue such as abortion by adroitly acknowledging the realities of the law and life while talking up alternatives to abortion. His message: “You better damn well stop being judgmental.”

The biggest mistake was listening to Karl The Loser Rove. Let us hope he was swept into the dustbin of history after this latest fiasco.

After that abjectly humiliating Election Night meltdown of his, on coast-to-coast television: the only way I ever want to see Karl Rove burbling on TV again, re: grown-up politics, is if appropriately garbed in a cap-and-bells, with little jangly shoes.

This is the truth. Like or not, if the younger generations won't even consider the GOP and the non-white groups continue to vote overwhelmingly for Democrats, well, then we will not be able to win national elections - and fewer and fewer state elections too.

Expecting voters to know what’s going on and their reliance on MSM is just part of why our great loss. While there are examples of fraud which may close up the gap, the gap is too big to blame the loss on fraud ...Expecting GOP E’s to address media bias or for Romney to call Obama a congential liar is another but this is where the fault lies..And it deals with the campaign material selection of topics.

Romney ran a “Johnny One Note Campaign”. Used a poison dart blow gun when he should have used a cannon loaded with grape shot because he had pleanty of stuff he could fill that cannon barrel with..

They failed to hammer away on what will happen when Obama gets returned; The Obama 2013/14 Tax Increases. THE IMPACT OF OBAMA’S ENERGY POLICIES...(a socialist construct never branded as such) and A BREAD AND BUTTER ISSUE WHICH REACHES INTO EVERY “DEOMGRAPHICS” POCKETBOOK pocketbook...The impact of Supreme Court Appointments.. 18,000 new IRS agents and on and on. Including rampant corruption . Some were very briefly touched most weren’t and Benghazi was left to languish. Then there is Obama’s personal extravagance and behavior refusing to visit Nashville after its disaster showing up at New Orleans after Mitt visited it.

Instead we got a sales pitch on executive ability but not the reason why one should toss the old model and buy his.

In addition Rove who I understand was handling the Charter PAC senate campaign played games. His material never warned voters that IF OBAMA GETS REELECTED AND SENATE RETAINED OBAMACARE AND ALL THE TAX INCREASES THAT GO WITH IT WILL NEVER GET REPEALED Let alone tie into or cover the formentioned grape shot which would have perhaps changed that body. I don’t recall any of that material directed toward that fact.

Finally they didn’t believe the polls which turned out were dead on. Even going as far as setting up focus groups which could have looked into what’s going on . Even to the point of going out to local eateries and bars and eavesdrop into conversations and pick up on topics being discussed.(chat rooms twitter too contrived)

Our local small population (-8000) rural blue county GOP had at the outset good and growing attendence at their meetings 50 plus. At the meeting the Thursday before the election only about a dozen people showed up and I knew we were in trouble .

Nuts...This loss is inexcuseable, while I trully don’t believe Mitt Romney would never continence losing, I’m begining to wonder if many GOPE’s didn’t want to see O care go ..

What struck me looking at the picture was how happy Rove enjoyed his ‘me me me’ time.

Looks like he's guffawing on how he spent 120 - 300 millions without much success.

There are always idiots giving him money for (I don't know why), and he gets to keep a real cushy job everywhere. But why would any financial industry expert, attending the Global Financial Leadership Conference organized by the CME Group, want to listen to Rove is beyond me.

I think part of what is going on now is establishment Republicans are trying to obfuscate the basic facts of a changing voter demographic because they completely missed it. The "Silent Majority" is no more. They thought '08 was an aberration and it was not. We were hearing from them about "skewed" polls before the election that turned out to be right.

I believe the party and platform have to change for conservatives to have any say in Federal government.

Rove and Carville's summary: "We won".

Both are members of the same political elite class.

In reality, Mr. Rove was the GOP-e’s campaign manager. Since 2008 Rove has effectively set himself up as the head of the GOP-e. He basically marshaled all the GOP forces, set the strategy, and led the attack.

Regrettably, Mr. Rove failed spectacularly. Mr. Rove is simply incapable of truly understanding the battlefield.

All during the Bush years Mr. Rove apparently refused to allow George Bush to defend himself — ever. Of course not only did this irreparably hurt Bush, it damaged Conservatives, and the GOP brand, probably for generations.

In the recent elections we saw Rove, again, shrink back from the attack apparently believing that the corrupt MSM would somehow be even somewhat impartial. The corrupt MSM was viciously partisan, and again, Rove failed to incorporate this into his political calculus.

It is quite apparent, that like Sears, Mr. Rove firmly believes that if only the GOP shows their “softer side” women, minorities, and other victims will come running to the GOP. So, Mr. Rove sets off to soft-sell abortion, homosexuality, immigration, and whatever else are a matter of bedrock principle. And, of course, it failed with millions of fewer votes in 2012 than in 2008.

Mr. Rove is a campaign general who neither understands the battlefield, the political enemy, nor his allies or his own troops.

Mr. Rove’s political vision is fatally flawed. The only remaining question is whether the GOP-e leaders have now grasped this fact.

Based upon early post-election feedback, the GOP-e refuses to recognize this and will likely double-down on pursuing Mr. Rove and Company's failed strategy.

Your former boss was openly pro-life.

He won twice.

Yet you think that is a politically undefendable position?

You're dumber than you look.

Short answer - NO.

In fact, the 2012 failure was because (The Royal) We were too far right. The country has now becaome center left, the argument is to be center left, while Dem move further left.

The "Silent Majority" is no more. They thought '08 was an aberration and it was not.

Sadly, this is true. If there is a "silent majority" these days, it is probably one that simply wants more free stuff. There is no longer a real majority out there for traditional values and rugged individualism. We are much more like Europe now - perhaps even worse in some ways since our rapidly growing minority seem uninterested in even considering a conservative alternative.

We were hearing from them about "skewed" polls before the election that turned out to be right.

Truly embarrassing. That so many conservatives bought into the idea that you could "unskew" polls was just sad to watch.

I believe the party and platform have to change for conservatives to have any say in Federal government.

There have to be changes. No doubt about it.

These elections are NOT certified yet. The only way to get this investigated, much less recounted or overturned, is through the Secretary of State of each of the five key states: Florida, Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Our government is bankrupt - NO money. The U.S. Treasury is empty!

The “Free Stuff” will soon disappear. Some states are already cutting back on food stamp allowances (EBTs).

Do you honestly think the Blacks, Hispanics and Asians will continue to vote for Democrats if the “Free Stuff” disappears?

Self preservation will kick in after the initial shock, anger and resentment subside. Blacks will start looking for work in ernest. Illegal aliens will most likely self-deport and return home. Asians will do what they’ve always traditionally done and start businesses.

Yes, sadly, yes. Even if the "free stuff" disappears they will vote for the party that promises to try to get it back for them.

Take a good look at Detroit, or any number of other failing ghetto cities. Look at California where it couldn't be any more clear they are broke - yet they just gave the Democrats super majorities.

I do get your point, eventually some of them might figure out they've been had by the Democrat Party. I really hope you are right that enough of them realize liberalism doesn't work. Unfortunately sometimes people will never understand and admit they were wrong - even if it kills them. Whole generations of people get in a habit of voting one way and sometimes just won't change.

I am banking on just that. That is my optimistic scenario. I am just not sure with some of these people if they will ever get it, or have learned not to get suckered the same way again. My fear is an economic collapse will pave the way for a radical, far left government (it could also result in populist far right too). My concern is that blacks, hispanics, etc (along with some whites), will not accept that the freebies are finished and will simply back a revolutionary Marxist type government. If that ever happens we really might have a civil war on our hands.
