The republican presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, continues to face a slew of questions regarding his vast wealth.
With a net worth of over $200 million, the former Massachusetts governor has been ridiculed throughout his campaign for his inability to relate to many Americans who are currently struggling.
In an interview broadcast on Thursday, Foxs Bill Hemmer asked the GOPer and his wife, Ann, about their immense wealth.
Back to the connection [with the voters] aspect of this. There will be people...who will look at you and just say, successful rich guy, Hemmer put to him.
In response, Romney likened himself to two of the most iconic presidents in history.
Like FDR and John F. Kennedy, Romney responded, There have been plenty of people.
JFKs father was one of the wealthiest men in America and was the first chairman of the SEC. Almost all of his income came from a trust he shared with other family members.
This is not a nation that divides people based on whether theyve been successful or not. We dont say, Oh, boy, this person won the lottery and therefore they cant understand me. We instead look at people and celebrate their success and their achievements, and we look for people who have the skills we think will make our lives better, Romney added.
What I find is that the statistics understate the kind of pain and insecurity that exists in Americas homes. I see many people who may be employed but are very concerned that they could lose their job at any time.
Ann Romney added that her husbands work ethic had helped him achieve success. Hes the hardest working person Ive ever met, besides his father, George Romney, who was a crazy man, she said.
Meanwhile on Thursday, former first lady Nancy Reagan endorsed Mitt Romney for Novembers presidential race.
The widow of President Ronald Reagan said that her Ronnie would have liked Romneys business background and his "strong principles."
Reagan (90) served lemonade and cookies to Mitt Romney and his wife when they visited her LA home.
Later, Nancy Reagan issued a statement which read.
Mitt and Ann Romney joined me at my home this afternoon for some lemonade and cookies and I offered my firm endorsement of his campaign for President. Although I know he will not be the official nominee of the Republican Party until August in Tampa, Florida, I am thrilled that after Tuesdays primary he is the clear choice, having won the magic number of 1,144 convention delegates."
How about "it's still immense and it's still ours".
If being wealthy in itself is considered bad, then anyone with wealth will be considered bad.
Thus, communism will be the only good form of government where everyone is the same and good.
Mitt Romney will be the next Ronald Reagan.
You owe me a keyboard
Make that two.
“The republican presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, continues to face a slew of questions regarding his vast wealth....”

...exclusively from destructive, class warfare-fomenting Communist journalists.
Here’s another of their tricks:
SOME SAY, that talentless journalists couldn’t succeed at any other job but the easy, undemanding one they are in, that requires no intellect, has no standards and no accountability. How do you respond to those accusations Ms. MediaPerson?
Then you know that Reagan's tenure as President was far more conservative than his governance of California.
I actually met President Reagan TWICE. At the recommissioning of USS Iowa in 1982 and at Charleston Naval Shipyard in 1983 when he came to see the new Trident C4 missile system. He shook my hand. Romney is a Reaganite and will make a great President.
He has the opportunity if he chooses.
Check out Irish Central. It’s a far left vicious anti-conservative site. Feh!
Since I lived in California most of the period from four months after my birth in 1960 to 1974, I am familiar with what was happening then, yes.
“Only if he does a 180 from his Massachusetts governance”
You have got to be joking. Governor Romney turned a $3 Billion deficit into a $750 million surplus WITHOUT rasing taxes. He closed loopholes, cut spending and raised fees. He actually pushed to state legislature to decrease the Massachusetts income tax from 5.3% to 5.0%. That is the kind of fiscal leadership we need in Washington.
You’re kidding, right, moonshot? Tell me you are joking.
Thank you, svcw, for expressing the same feelings that I have in regard to Moonbat’s morning slobber. HURL!
JFK was more conservative than either Bush....
Two words: Romney Care.
The Kennedy’s were bootleggers and corrupt politicians, using their money to buy votes. Romney is a vulture capitalist.
Reagen earned his money, broadcasting, acting, and governing.
I don’t resent Reagan’s wealth, just law breakers and vultures, or anyone who uses the public tax money to get rich.
Putting Romney and Reagan as equals is ridiculous. I'm going to support the dude simply because the alternative is unthinkable. If he surprises us all I'll be more than happy (not holding my breath), but at this point we need to take out "The most destructive, the most anti-free market, anti-business, pro-Marxist, anti-life, anti-American, pro-gay, pro-muzzie, pro everything we hate with the will to do anything to sack our country administration ever!"
Romney is the only one who can do that, but very few of us are supporting Romney for any other reason than to take out "The most destructive, the most anti-free market, anti-business, pro-Marxist, anti-life, anti-American, pro-gay, pro-muzzie, pro everything we hate with the will to do anything to sack our country administration ever!"
Got it?
You don’t remember the way Reagan slimed conservatives and talked down to voters like we’re stupid? /s
Mittens, is that you? Moonshot, surely there are other Romneybot lovefest sites that are populated with slobbering fans of the Bishop like yourself. Free Republic isn’t one of them.
Maybe you should go blog somewhere where you will feel at home.
Pretty good analogy - Mitt and JFK - both socially liberal, fiscally prudent, pro-national-defense Democrats.
if Romney changes, it is called ‘evolution’ now....just ask the messiah
Hubert Humphrey was more pro gun than Romney.
Hubert H. Humphrey wrote: Certainly one of the chief guarantees of freedom under any government, no matter how popular and respected, is the right of citizens to keep and bear arms. This is not to say that firearms should not be very carefully used and that definite safety rules of precaution should not be taught and enforced. But the right of citizens to bear arms is just one more guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against a tyranny which now appears remote in America, but which historically has proved to be always possible.
and I too will vote against the great satan, zer0bama....whomever the RNC sticks us with
I think he’ll surprise a lot of FReeps, when he become PRESIDENT!!
The media is trying to tell Americans to resent success or wealth. Yet, they themselves desire both with a passion. It is a weirdness inherent to liberals. They rant and rave about financial success, but they aspire to it as much as anyone. They hate Romney for earning millions, yet they adore the Pelosis, the Kerrys, the Kennedys and the Oprahs.
Romney assured Massachusetts voters running for the Senate in 1994 that he did not want to go back Reaganomics.
And just that easily you've blown the little credibility that you had.
So, finally admitting he’s still a lib Rat.
not two words, two choices Obama or Romney?
Governor Romney, for all his many faults, can’t be worse for this country than Mr. Obama. Therefore, one has to vote for Romney. This is a two-party system, any other vote is a waste of the franchise, is it not?
Welcome to freerepublic, but your few days of posting has already outed you as a bomb throwing troll.
Romney is the anti-Reagan, the opposite of being a “Reaganite”.
Mitt Romney was weaned on politics, he was born into a politically aggressive, liberal, anti-conservative family in which dad became a Governor and a national figure, ending in a liberal presidential run, and mother was a 1970 liberal Senate candidate.
Romney has always known and lived his liberal convictions, and his anti-conservative drive for revenge against the conservatives of the GOP, the Reagan/Palin/teaparty types who he shuns and insults even as he gains control of their party today.
Romney was anti-Reagan, he left the GOP and from 1989 to 1993 only gave money to, and fund raised for democrat candidates, he voted for Paul Tsongas in 1992, he was giving to and fund raising for Planned Parenthood in 1994.
His father had run against Reagan for the Presidency in 1968, Mitt Romney and his father formally protested the victory of the conservatives at the 1964 GOP convention in which Goldwater was nominated and Reagan gave his famous speech. Romney was anti-conservative in every way during the first 59 years of his life.
ROMNEYQUOTES
Reagan was adamantly pro-choice
Look, I was an independent during the time of Reagan-Bush. Im not trying to return to Reagan-Bush.
Im not a partisan politician. My hope is that, after this election, it will be the moderates of both parties who will control the Senate, not the Jesse Helmses.
These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense, Romney said. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.
I believe that the Clinton compromise was a step in the right direction. I am also convinced that it is the first of a number of steps that will ultimately lead to gays and lesbians being able to serve openly and honestly in our nations military. That goal will only be reached when preventing discrimination against gays and lesbians is a mainstream concern, which is a goal we share.
Do you think that Mitt was just merely confused a little about his core “Reaganite” beliefs during the the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and the 2000s, until 2006 at age 59 when he started his run for President, the second such run in a row for his family?
Thanks :). I will support Romney over Obama anyday. In my opinion Obama has been a massive failure.
JFK was the President that killed us.
With no JFK there would not have been a Kennedy empire or Johnson, or Vietnam, or the 1960s, it was the election which destroyed us.
However, if there is one man who can take the most credit for the 1965 act, it is John F. Kennedy. Kennedy seems to have inherited the resentment his father Joseph felt as an outsider in Bostons WASP aristocracy. He voted against the McCarran-Walter Act of 1952, and supported various refugee acts throughout the 1950s. In 1958 he wrote a book, A Nation of Immigrants, which attacked the quota system as illogical and without purpose, and the book served as Kennedys blueprint for immigration reform after he became president in 1960. In the summer of 1963, Kennedy sent Congress a proposal calling for the elimination of the national origins quota system. He wanted immigrants admitted on the basis of family reunification and needed skills, without regard to national origin. After his assassination in November, his brother Robert took up the cause of immigration reform, calling it JFKs legacy. In the forward to a revised edition of A Nation of Immigrants, issued in 1964 to gain support for the new law, he wrote, I know of no cause which President Kennedy championed more warmly than the improvement of our immigration policies. Sold as a memorial to JFK, there was very little opposition to what became known as the Immigration Act of 1965.
You make a good point. Romney has messey record of flip-flops. But what better choice is there? We have been running deficits that are 10% of GDP for the past 4 years. Unemployment stubbornly above 8%. This is not sustainable in the long term. Obama must go.
Less trolling and insulting of Reagan would make it easier to accept your slavish devotion to the anti-Reagan failed Governor from Massachusetts, who announced that he would be seeking reelection but was driven out of office with a 34% approval rating and leaving behind a weakened and scarred state party and losing the Governor’s seat to the democrats after Republicans holding it for four Governors in a row.
Lets go on Democrat Underground, post outrageous things, just to get members fighting.....Hmmmm.... Wait a sec, they will probably just check our sign up date and realize that we are just trying to stir things up. Those sort of tactics only seem to work at...free republic.
Romney versus Reagan??
You mean Governor Ronnie Raygun as the left called what was already a right-wing icon, the right wing Governor of California, deeply hated by the left and loved by the right, unlike failed one term (34% approval) Gov Romney, the man who hated Reagan and was purely liberal, and anti-right?
You mean 8 years of military service 1937 enlistee, Captain Reagan, who by the second half of the 1940s was already starting to be seen as a communist fighting conservative, testifying to Congress and naming names, working with the FBI, having to carry a gun for self defense from the left, Reagan?
The last time Reagan voted Dem for President was 1948, for Romney it was 1992, By 1952 Reagan was campaigning for Republicans as a Democrat for Eisenhower, he kept using that anti-liberal, conservative campaigning slogan until 1962.
In 1952 Reagan was campaigning for Republicans like Eisenhower, who he campaigned for again in 1956, and then campaigned for Nixon against JFK in 1960, already having earned a reputation as an active speaker for conservatism for years.
The Reagan who formally registered Republican in 1962 and spoke at the Goldwater convention in 1964 (the one Mitt and dad George protested)?
Romney was already anti-Goldwater and anti-Reagan.
Reagan was famous for his conservatism before the Vietnam War, and the Great Society, Roe V Wade, the abortion wars, Jimmy Carter, decades of Cold War defeats, and the radical 1960s, before the Reagan Revolution and the Contract with America, and Clinton, and the Gore election of 2000, Mitt Romney would not even register Republican during the Reagan Presidency or vote for him. Romney, at almost age 60, had a stroke (or something) and suddenly, unexplainedly, became a totally different person around 2006, merely to run for national office.
Reagan and Romney have nothing in common.
Hemmer comes across as someone who is really in love with himself.
So why again did you compare Romney to Reagan?
Reagan was governor of a liberal state. He enacted some very liberal legislation (Therapeutic Abortion Act) as governor but later on he turned out to be a great president.
The same could be true for Romney.
