Obama campaign’s new ad paints Romney as a job-killing economic ‘vampire’

Mitt Romney, a job-killing economic "vampire"? That's the message of a new ad by President Barack Obama's re-election campaign, which aims to turn the presumptive Republican nominee's business record into a liability as voters worry about the struggling economy.

A two-minute version of the new video will run in Iowa, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Colorado and Virginia. A six-minute version is available on a new Obama campaign site that is specifically devoted to criticizing Romney's approach to economic issues. Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul said the former Massachusetts governor welcomed Team Obama's "attempt to pivot back to jobs and a discussion of their failed record."

The Obama campaign ad focuses on Bain Capital's misadventures with GST steel of Kansas City and features former steelworkers describing what they saw between the time Bain bought the firm in 1993 and filed to put it in bankruptcy in 2001. (Romney left Bain in 1999).

"It was like a vampire. They came in and sucked the life out of us," says one of the men. "What Bain Capital did was not capitalism, it was bad management," says David Foster, lead negotiator for workers at GST Steel. Former steelworker Joe Soptic accuses Bain of cutting corners on safety, saying "it was like working in the sweatshops of the '30s," and that watching the plant close was "like watching an old friend bleed to death."

"It makes me angry," Soptic says. "Those guys were all rich. They all have more money than they'll ever spend. They have more money than their families will ever spend....

In all honesty I’m surprised Team Obama would say anything about job growth, even if it involves their opponent. Bringing up this topic will shine the light even brighter on Obama and his economic failures. Not a smart move.

Romney’s already seen as out-of-touch by the blue collar voters in states like Pennsylvania and Ohio where they’re playing the ad. Those were also the voters likely to vote against him in the primaries. Obama would be foolish not to pursue this line of attack and they’re doing it in the right states. If the electorate here is thinking like the electorate in Europe, then we’ll see the candidate who is willing to keep the handouts coming in bad economic times win over the candidate who sounds like he will be “not concerned about the very poor” and middle class and only about keeping profits high for the wealthy. This line of attack could work on a big chunk of important voters. However these will be the same voters who hate Obama’s new gay marriage stance, which is why the Republican candidate should always be running on social issues at least as heavily as on economic issues.

Comment from a Wapo article:
In 1993, Bain and two partners (GE Capital and Leggett & Platt) took over a century-old Kansas City steel plant known as GSI that badly needed investment capital for modernization. The Bain-led group pumped $100 million of investment capital into the plant, merged the plant with the company’s Georgetown plant within two years, and raised an additional $250 million through two bond offerings. Bain was paid roughly $900,000 in management fees during the Romney period (1993 thru 1999), and its investors ultimately yielded an estimated $50 million on an investment of $24.5 million. In the late 1990s, union relations deteriorated, steel prices nosedived, and raw materials and energy prices ballooned. The company filed for bankruptcy reorganization in 2001. The Georgetown plant was sold and temporarily shutdown, and then reopened over a four year period. Hundreds of Georgetown employees lost their jobs during the temporary shutdown. Georgetown locals blame the temporary shutdown on the owner that followed Bain, and most had no knowledge of Romney’s involvement in the company until the candidates started making their allegations. The plant is now owned the world’s largest steelmaker and operates two shifts daily. Bain defends its actions at GSI, claiming that it generated substantial investment capital for the company and committed many thousands of hours to upgrade its facilities and make the company more competitive.

Twenty-something marketing grads working for the Obama campaign trying to ride the wave of a Johnny Depp movie.
Pathetic!

AxelPloufe and the rest of Team Obama know that 98.7% of the media is firmly on their side and will shelter them from any attacks that Romney’s people or the conservative media (such as they are) make.

my opinion.... Romney should pull a Reagan on obama.

President Reagan, when daddy Bush made comments during their primary, would say ...
“There he goes again”, ....doesn’t know what he is talking about - or something equal to-—that ended the comment!

obama will be, from now until the election, dropping his “obama bombs” which amount to pitting one against the other — and Romney cannot spend his time responding to each and every -— while obama runs on to the next one - he has done this every month since January!!!

Romney must stay on the offensive not playing defensive!!!

Well I guess that’s as close as 0bama could get to calling Romney a bloodthirsty Jew looking to take control of the world’s finances for the benefit of the international Jewish cabal. Or am I the only one hearing disturbing echos from the last century in that statement?

The hundreds of thousands that just got removed from Obama’s stash may think otherwise. You can’t watch “The View” for 99 weeks without serious roadrash.

Milt is about as far from being Jewish as one could possibly be. Having said that, I’m sure that’s where AxelPloufe was going.
