Mike Huckabee does not agree with Sarah Palin that a brokered convention is a good thing for Republicans though he discourages the idea of Newt Gingrich stepping aside to prevent that from happening. The former Arkansas governor went on Fox News today to describe the brokered convention process to Uma Pemmaraju (a trainwreck) and discourage the party from, if it must happen, choosing someone who didnt run during the primary.
If youve ever seen a trainwreck, Huckabee joked, youve seen a brokered convention. Calling it a disaster for the Republican Party, he expressed dismay at the way this campaign has been run, not because of process is taking so long, but because of the nature of it. While the brokered convention was a problem to him, he also took issue with calls for Gingrich to step out, particularly those coming from other campaigns. I think even though theres a lot of pressure on Newt Gingrich to drop out, I think thats unfair on Newt Gingrich Santorum could implode, or Romney could implode, or both of them could implode, he posited. That said, he admonished all the candidates for being too negative, arguing, people can tell you what Republicans are against, Im not sure the average person on the street can tell you what Republicans are for. He noted he would change his stance on Gingrich staying in when Newt supporters start telling him to get out then its time to think about it.
While Huckabee did not discount that a brokered convention would certainly be entertaining, be a lot of fun for people to observe, he thought the worst that could happen was a candidate who walks into a coronation. To have someone walk in and just get handed this magic mante without preparation, he argued, would leave someone unprepared for the political assault from the Democrats.

If the choices are take what the establishment is selling and like it or a train wreck convention give me the latter please!
I have seen gite enough of what the former provides than you very much!
Go away Mike. No one cares what you think.
than = thank
Mike Huckatorum screwed the ‘08 election up.
Should read: If the choices are take what the establishment is selling and like it or a train wreck convention give me the latter please! I have seen quite enough of what the former provides thank you very much! (Damned fat dyslexic fingers!)
It sure can’t be any worse than this disaster we have now!
A Brokered Convention would let us hit the “Reset” button and override the GOPE. Either that, or we start a third party and be done with it. We have pretty much lost already and have nothing else to lose.
America needs to be completely rebuilt from the ground up and to do that, it needs to collapse first.
Huckabee positions are inconsistent. We don’t need a brokered convention and one way to avoid it is for Newt to withdraw immediately. His campaign manager said that if he failed to win MS and AL he’d quit as these were must win states for his southern strategy. He invested lots of money and time and it did not pay off. That’s now over.
If that is the case, then prepare yourself for the result; A definite Romney win and no BC.
The Dole in ‘96 and McLame in ‘08 disasters, were more than too much for me.
Can’t stand Huckabee. He shows up as the conservative on shows but he’s really just another RINO!
Every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Did Newt ever say he’d quit?
I’d like to see Newt and Palin team up and run on a 3rd party ticket. I’m so fed up with the GOPe and their open primaries and preordained moderate candidates.
You got here about a week before Mr. Obama won the election. That makes me a little suspicious.
Snake Oil Salesman. Hypocrite of the 33rd Degree.
“Id like to see Newt and Palin team up”
So do I.
Huckabee (aka: The Huckster) is a trainwreck. To top it off he’s eating excessively, ballooning to his past dimensions. Scary.
That’s right, the Huckster is what kept Fred Thompson from getting any traction. The Holy Roller vote has been a pain in our side since then.
Those ought to be too much for anyone with a brain!
Certainly too much for me!
I honestly think Newt and Palin could win! They are both known for fighting against the establishment and there is no doubt we would finally gain Energy Independence with their leadership. That is such a Huge issue.
If Huck-prah is against it, I am for it.
Is the Primary season we are going through any different than a train wreck?
We have GOP trying to pick our candidate in spite of over half of us disliking their pick.
If anyone should drop out, it is Ron Paul. He is dead last. Now why is nobody calling for that to happen?
At least it would generate some real excitment in what is currently a pretty uninspiring mess of an election.
There is a reason that the Palin bashing has continued, with the President actually making an ad against Palin. They must be trying to neutralize her, but it is not going to work.
Wth a Gingrich/Palin ticket, our country would begin to rally with optimism for the first time since Reagan.
“Suspicious”? I was hoping my support and that of other FReeepers for Santorum and for Newt to pack it in, would actually make you nervous.
