Romney’s “hollow and dispiriting” win last night ("Newt will be the last not-Romney standing")
Legal Insurrection ^ | February 23, 2012 | Professor William A. Jacobson, esquire

Posted on 02/23/2012 11:49:17 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

I posted last night and again this morning that Rick Santorum had a terrible debate.

But it’s fair also to point out that many of the shots Romney scored on Santorum were cheap shots, as pointed out by George Neumayr at The American Spectator (h/t reader OccamsrazorX):

"Romney, at his most hypocritical, labored hard to present himself as more socially conservative than Santorum, noting that Rick had voted for Planned Parenthood funding. Astonishingly, Santorum missed his chance at a return upper cut. Why didn’t he mention that Romney once gave money to Planned Parenthood from his own pocket? Why didn’t he mention that Romneycare dollars go to Planned Parenthood?

Romney’s sudden social conservatism invites an obvious question: How stupid does he think primary voters are? Romney’s con job here depends upon the amnesia of his audience. Here’s a politician who pled fealty to Roe v. Wade, voted for Democrat Paul Tsongas, and competed with Ted Kennedy as a champion of “gay rights.” By the way, Romney’s social conservatism didn’t even last for the whole debate. In the second hour of it, he indicated his support for women in combat."

The problem is, a cheap win is a win, and when the candidate is left — as Newt was after the Florida debates — debunking Romney’s obfuscation after the fact, it’s too late.

Neumayr finds that on balance Newt came out ahead:

Meanwhile, an unmolested Newt Gingrich, freed from the pressures of “frontrunner status,” resumed his role as the commanding, Olympian overseer at GOP debates.

I continue to believe that Newt will be the last not-Romney standing.

Yep, that's what we're counting on.

Mark Levin tore Romney to shreds today, and clearly connected the Paul/Romney camps by identifying their common enemy ...conservatives!

Its time for Newt and Rick to meet and discuss how they can tag-team Romney back to Massachusetts where he belongs. Paul can go back to the asylum at his leisure.

He looked and sounded like a two year old caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

What is wrong with Mitt Romney's neck? Does he have a physical condition that prevents him from turning his head to the right? Oh and I cannot stand his inability to speak clearly and coherently. RonPaul, what can I say? It just does not feel right picking on grandpa out on a visit from the nursing home.

I’ve about decided that Santorum is the last chance for a not Romney remaining. I don’t see how Gingrich comes back even if Santorum drops out. If Santorum fades now, Romney wins AZ and MI. Coupled with the near sweep on Super Tuesday (In most states where Romney is not now ahead, he he polling second to Santorum), Romney gets about 1/2 to the nomination after just over 1/3 have been allocated. I don’t see Gingrich picking up the 20 points in the polls he needs in 10 days.

Well, he did cast many votes for earmarks, and he did vote for the appropriations bill that sent US tax dollars to Planned Parenthood. But I do not remember one time he took to the floor of the Senate protesting the lottery style spending practices of elected officials. AND since he got 'funding' for abstinence programs because of 'planned parenthood' funding it is not that he was ignorant of what, to where and to whom US taxpayers dollars were getting spent.

I was surprised in how comfortable and how accepting he was of the practice in the Congress to treat the taking of tax payers money to have the power and authority to pick and choose life's lottery winners.

No. Michele is much more conservative than Rick, especially on economic issues. Michele didn’t practice “big government conservatism”, compared to Rick.

He’s been focused on turning to the left for SO long... to paraphrase your mom, “If you keep looking left across the aisle, eventually your neck is gonna harden like that.”

Rick’s hands have been deep deep deep into that cookie jar (of liberalism and moderate capitulation) for many years. It is amazing he is considered the true conservative in the race by some.

Just goes to show, like Huckabee, if you thump your Bible loudly enough some folks will be suckered into thinking you are a true conservative when it just is not so. (and I am a Bible believing born again Christian, but I don’t believe politicians who wear too much of that on their sleeve. Huck is a fraud and so is Santorum.)

Santorum is going to win the nomination period. Like it or not we need to start focusing on the general election and start forming the President Rick Santorum dream team cabinet.

.

Santorum's not my "first choice" ... an up front disclaimer ...

Your Ricky is Michele Bachmann in a sweater vest perfectly sums it all up ... better than ANYONE else has said ...

Mitt Romney is a "complete" XXXXXXX (use your Navy Sea Dog literary imagaination) ... both from a business and political perspective ...

Romney has NO soul, NO decency ... and Willard's Ego-Mania rises to the point of pissing-away $ 25-plus million dollars (of the family fortune) so that he can add "POTUS" to his resume (the ONLY reason that he wants the job) ...

In short, Mittens is a "Professional World-Class Jerk" ...

Young Kids like Michele Bachmann and Rick Santorum have no REAL experience in "whipping ass" with someone of Romney's ilk ...

Newt Gingrich "does" have that experience ...

Newt Gingrich "plays chess" with Romney while others try to play checkers ...

Rick Santorum (might) make a great Attorney General for Newt ... but Rick's NOT READY for Prime Time ...

P.S. Obama and Romney are "Ego-Maniac Clones" of each other ...

Rick Santorum would be DESTROYED by Obama during the campaign ...

because Rick santorum DOES NOT KNOW how to fight and win like ... Maximus Decimus Meridius

You are probably right, except that the non-Romney vote has to go somewhere. This has not been a logical process, where a huge 20-30% of the electorate has jumped from one candidate to the next, to the next every few weeks. That group has never gone to Romney. It is possible it would migrate back to Newt.

Your feeling is similar to mine in that Romney probably holds on enough to win the states he needs to win. Who would ever know in this crazy process, though. I never expected Santorum to even be a factor, nothing against him, but he was wallowing in the 1-5% range until days before Iowa.

As I have said before Romney is the worst well with the exception of Harry Reid, representative of the Mormon church. Just as Teddy Kennedy and Nancy the RED Pewlouise among a few are the worst representatives of the Catholic church. Of course I could name names in every other denomination, but, since this is specific to real time, now, I will stay focused.

Pope Benedict himself demands UNIVERSAL Health care, there is NO way to get that without government in control.

Romney politically is left. Watching him turn to speak at Santorum in the debate made him look like he had a physical impairment, aside from his stammering and stuttering, sometimes speaking incoherently.
