Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) on Tuesday went after Newt Gingrichs labeling of the Barack Obama as the food stamp president, charging the former speaker denigrates Americans trying to make ends meet during difficult economic times.
To say those kinds of things about the President of the United States, I think, not only tries to lower the office itself, but also denigrates those people who find themselves in need of food stamps, the South Carolina Democrat said on Fox News, the morning after a GOP debate was held in his home state.
Pressed on why the label was denigrating if Gingrich was simply trying to point out how much the program for low-income families has grown under Obamas watch, Clyburn pushed back, saying the state of the country that the president inherited from George W. Bush cannot be ignored.
This man inherited an economy that was going into the ditch. You know that, everybody knows that. And what he had to do was stabilize a very sick economy before he could initiative any kind of recovery, he said.....

Work, toil, industry denigrate nobody. It is sloth that is a deadly sin, congressman. Industry is a cardinal virtue.
Is he a racist for using the word “denigrate?” I’M JUST SAYING.
Oh, and I find this ironic after Gingrich and Clyburn shared a stage in South Carolina just last week. Here you go, Newt, here’s the thanks you get from the racist left.

The left is holding the race cards but Newt has the trump cards.
Hmmmm. Where was Clyburn during President Bush's 8 years of being harangued by the media and liberal members of congress in much worse ways than this???
If they didn't need food stamps they wouldn't have to vote for Rep. Clyburn and other Demonrats who promise handouts for votes. That's why Clyburn and other lib politicos perpetuate that need.
“...saying the state of the country that the president inherited from George W. Bush cannot be ignored.”
“..saying the state of the country that the president inherited from a Barney Frank led democrat Congress cannot be ignored.”
Fixed it.
Once again they say, “It’s Bush’s fault.” Anyone else tired of this same old refrain?
“...Clyburn pushed back, saying the state of the country that the president inherited from George W. Bush cannot be ignored.”
I wonder if it ever crossed his mind that DEMOCRATS controlled Congress then and Obama was part of Congress, which means Obama helped to create the problem.....
Rep Clyburn thinks Gingrich is niggardly for wanting to get people off food stamp dependence.
I just saw Megyn Kelly call upon a woman in a group of people to explain why she thinks Newt won’t get a bump from the debate last night. The woman said “He is the absolute worst person to represent us. He is an old, fat, white guy!” Fox news is race baiting even today. They have been so disgraceful and disappointing. What must they think of their viewers to put forth such garbage?
The left is being called out for their failures and all they can do is play the race card and blame Bush. They are toast in 2012.
Clyburn pushed back, saying the state of the country that the president inherited from George W. Bush cannot be ignored.
I missed the part where Bush gave Obama 4.3 trillion of debt?.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhh the race card, when you have nothing left and have lost the argument, they use the race card..how fitting..Dems want to see people continuing to be poor because if they give them welfare and food stamps, they will continue to vote Democrat..take away those freebies and allow those people to work their way up and become a success, they will realize the Rat party has been using them and they will see the light
I would love to see someone beat Rep. Clyburn so we didn’t have to see him all the time...But his district is drawn to be as safe Democrat as it gets. He will have this seat until he dies....then another Race-Baiting Dem will pick up where he left off.....
Yes, this won't work against Gingrich. He's not going to be kowtowed.
So Rep. Clyburn, attempting to make people work for what they have instead of waiting for handouts is a bad thing, ask yourself what the black communities should worry about what really denigrates them.
Drop-outs, teenage pregnancy, leftist owned WELFARE, drugs, black on black murders, gangs, lack of guidance by a loving father. All black leaders are responsible for denigrating their people. To let them be used by leftist hatemongers is beyond the pale. The left must truly dislike blacks to leave them still in poverty after years of promise of hope and change.
Shame on you Clyburn. The people need a leader not a taker!
he played the race card and the blame Bush card at the same time. Is that legal? If so, I’m going to throw down the NAFTA card and the community reinvestment act card. Clinton passed NAFTA which resulted in the giant sucking sound we now hear as our manufacturing jobs disapeared to foreign lands and Clinton also compelled banks to give home loans to under qualified borrowers, via the community reinvestment act, who then proceeded to default by the millions when their jobs disapeared thanks to NAFTA. Bush was handed that mess and we’re all still dealing with it in the form of a collapsed housing market and greatly decreased tax revenues at all levels of government.
The Kenyan communist coup’s numbers: 99 weeks of unemployment and 50 million on food stamps
Jim Clyburn has a lifetime of employment as a race huckster, and daughter Mignon has a cushy job as FCC Commissioner. His constituents suffer extreme unemployment, but he keeps their food stamps coming.
They deserve better, but they are satisfied with Jim Clyburn.
Race card? Oh, la! I am laughing myself silly. Everyone in the debate last night was very good, with the exception of Mitt romney who hemmed and hawed a bit, dancing around some questions. m He could have made some poiints if he had aplogized to Newt for the soleazy ads against him., And Ron Paul, who was nauseatingly verbose to hs usual level of hysteria.
Newt was great and well deserved the extended standing ovation he got. Even Rick Perry got some good points made. I would have liked to see him rake the Congress quesation to term limits rather than long recesses.
Rick Santorum was very positive and did himself proud! Very presidential.
All in all, I think it was the best debate yet.
” What must they think of their viewers to put forth such garbage?”
What they think of middle-class conservatives is simple: we’re Bible and gun clingers who insist on our God-given rights under the U.S.Constitution.
For the folks at Fox News, it is all about the money, and for the candidates they pander to, it is all about the power.
Romney is their choice becasue he doesn’t give a damn about the Constitution, he has no moral core, and that just about sums up the attitude of those who control large international corporations.
But did that actually happen? There were reports it was "going to" happen and then reports it never was going to happen, then I never saw reports that it DID happen. Just sayin.....
Doing what now?
I wish to hell that all of those congressional districts that were gerrymandered over the years to create safe “black” seats were realigned in a more rational manner.
Okay now, Anna Eshooz has been crossed off the list and now it is Clyburn's turn!
In about two days we will be back to Eshoo, as the president is very thin skinned and it doesn't take very long to go through a list of 192 democrat congresspersons!
“Initiative”? Wow.
I believe Clyburn attended a rally a few years ago in which Bush was depicted as Hitler. Like most career criminals — ah, I mean Liberal politicians — Clyburn is just another lying black racist.
Someone PLEASE inform me of how “the poor” equates to racism... I know a whole bunch of poor Caucasians who are definitely “poor” and benefit from entitlement programs. Last I checked, those programs don’t have specific race requirements.
So of course, the “logical” progression is - if someone wants to reform the entitlement mentality - they are automatically racist...
The insanity is beyond comprehension. But the stupid American voters (who are mostly public-school indoctrinated) buy into it without question.
Hum Cyburn must be an idiot..
Gingrich addressed President Obama in his statement, not American citizens. If you can not understand english then you should stay out of the conversation.......
Politicians who play the race card rather than address the issue at hand, would rather maintain a dependent class of voters, than an independent class of working citizens.
Clyburn is trotted out to say these things because he’s part of a protected, minority, victim class within the Democrat party and he doesn’t have to speak correctly, think correctly or act correctly. All he has to do is vote correctly, which is to say solid Marxist/Democrat, and he will never be criticized.
Racism and class warfare are the end products of the premises of collectivism and determinism which happen to be two of the main pillars of the libtard worldview of statism and socialism. Once they have accepted that worldview, they then project their own racism and class warfare on others.

“Doing what now?
he’s a master (race :) baiter.
I thought you might be saying that Republican lynch mobs were already roaming across the country unchecked.
