Ron Paul, enemy of Iowa
The Politico ^ | December 16, 2011 | Ben Smith

Posted on 12/16/2011 10:21:55 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Iowa radio host and weathervane of the state's evangelical political opinion raises fears for Iowa's first-in-the-nation status should it select Ron Paul on caucus day.

"One thing is for certain," Deace writes. "if a candidate with Paul’s foreign policy views wins the Iowa Caucuses that will be the final nail in Iowa’s first in the nation status. Like it or not, the media and the Republican Party itself will simply discredit the results and start the process over in New Hampshire."

Chris Wallace made a similar point on Fox News before last night's debate: "The Ron Paul people are not going to like my saying this," he said. "But to a certain degree, it will discredit the Iowa caucuses because, rightly or wrongly, I think most of the Republican establishment thinks he’s not going to end up as the nominee. So therefore, Iowa won’t count."

Despite establishment sentiment, Paul continues to do well in the polls....

If Paul wins Iowa, it will not be because of Republicans but because of Dems re-registering as Republican on caucus night. There are Democrats here in Iowa trying to organize that.

I don’t understand why the GOP apparatus lets a straight up Libertarian in these debates and elections. If his ideas are so aces, he should hit the trail under his true banner and sell it. His phony nonsense with pretending he is a Conservative just to use a better mechanism to get heard is tiresome.

We could say the same of Newt and Romney, neither of whom are truly conservative.

If Paul wins Iowa, it isn’t because of his foreign policy. It’s because the alternatives were seen as being untrustworthy and “progressive”.

Ron Paul is a fruitcake on foreign policy, but one can tell that he does what he says he will. Character goes a long way in getting a person elected.

Perhaps...but they are not Libertarians running on the Republican ticket.

I would have far more respect for Dr. Paul if he ran as a Libertarian, as he has in the past. Instead of sucking up air in the Republican primary the last couple of years. He is a tiny bit hypocritical.

And they're planning to caucus for Ron Paul. Swell.

No matter where you stand on Ron Paul, I would crap on someone on the radio telling me who I could or could not vote for "if I wanted my state to be taken seriously".

Are Americans little whiny children that they can't make up their own mind without this sort of junior high level peer pressure? Sheesh.

I lived in Iowa from 1974 until 2001, save for my military service time. I am familiar with the caucus process and worked for Al Haig and the Polk County GOP. I also guarded then Vice President Bush’s plane and cars while he was running for president.

If you were given an ice cream cone with two small dog turds hidden in it, would you say it is good eating because 95% of it is edible.

Whoever is NOT for the Constitution is the enemy of Iowa..

Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate for the Constitution..
Others are for partial Constitutional Law... not complete Constitutional Law..

The American Constitution was written down specifically to protect "the People" in the States from the Federal Government..
Every time you amend the Constitution you inhibit the (people in the)States NOT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT..

Which is the problem a Federal Government gone completely wild.. rabid actually..

At the risk of being redundant...he should run as a Libertarian. That is what Dr. Paul is.
