Will Republican Race’s First in Be the First Out?
The New York Times ^ | July 7, 2011 | Jeff Zeleny

AMES, Iowa — Tim Pawlenty was first in line to enter the Republican presidential race. He is now fighting to avoid becoming the earliest major candidate to be shown the door.

No contender for the Republican nomination has followed the conventional playbook more than Mr. Pawlenty, a former governor of Minnesota who began introducing himself two years ago during a prospecting trip to Iowa. Yet his path has been complicated by fresher faces, an unruly nominating contest and a handful of missteps that swallowed his summer momentum.

The voting will not open for at least six months, but Mr. Pawlenty knows that his performance at the Iowa Straw Poll on Aug. 13 — fair or not — will help determine whether his candidacy accelerates or lands in the annals of Republican presidential hopefuls like Elizabeth Dole, Lamar Alexander and Dan Quayle whose campaigns were extinguished here.....

followed the conventional playbook

Yep, a horse cav caracole against squad automatic weapons got phased out of the playbook for the same reason. It got you slaughtered.

The old playbook is broke for conservative voters. Candidates might want to tack to the right if they want to win.

I don't care about Pawlenty one way or the other, but this handful of idiot bumpkins making so much of a difference, this just isn't right.

No need. Rick and Mitt are doing a pretty good job of eliminating themselves. So will T-Paw. It’s just a matter of time. Buy some popcorn. Sit back and enjoy the show.

Meanwhile, the wise candidate is keeping her powder dry, and watching all the rest destroy themselves.

Take your time Sarah, they’re thinning the field for your grand entry.

Mitt scares me. If he becomes the nominee, I’ll write someone in or stay home.

Amen.

When will a candidate finally have the guts to call out this stupid primary system?

Yep. A dumb tradition if there ever was one. And not harmless. The stupid ethanol scam owes much of it's staying power to it.

Take your time Sarah, they’re thinning the field for your grand entry.

Sarah is pefectly happy with her current lifestyle.

Her grand entry will come when she officially endorses Rick Perry.

MAY 31, 2011 .... Palin plugs Perry: "I really like him" .... Unprompted, Sarah Palin brought up Rick Perry's name yesterday as a strong presidential candidate. "I think he would be a fine candidate.... we have a lot in common. I really like him.

Governor Sarah Palin's Endorsement of Governor Rick Perry

"That's why I am supporting Governor Rick Perry for re-election. He does what is right regardless of whether it is popular. He walks the walk of a true conservative. And he sticks to his guns – and you know how I feel about guns!" ...... Sarah Palin, January 17, 2009

Your angry, flamboyant posts make you seem insecure, as though you are compensating for something.

I doubt Mitt makes it past New Hampshire. He not only has to win there, he has to win big. It's his home turf. If he barely manages to get past the finish line, it is over.

Like him or not, I do give him credit for being a smart man and not overly wasteful with his money. Remember how quickly he bailed after Super Tuesday 2008?

That was his high water mark.

Ev'ryone knows Sarah didn't mean those things 'bout that Perry.
She just didn't do her homework.
Now you run along and take your PDS with ya.
We are all for Palin 'cause she's one of us."

That’s the way I see it too....In the meantime “She’s not running”.....”She’s old news”......”Her 15 minutes are up”....It will be a firestorm of coverage when she announces.....Everyone else will become obsolete.....

What a load of crap.

This whole gong show of "exploring", "declaring", "running" two years or more before the election is the enemy's game.

I don't think TPaw is a strong man or a strong candidate, but the LSM obviously wants to be n the role of saying who's in, who's out, who has a chance, who has no chance - and whatever they say, they ain't saying it for love of country.
