Three days after the primary election in the 6th congressional district, Highlands Mayor Anna Little has held on to a razor thin lead over rival Diane Gooch and the race appears headed towards a recount.

As of this evening, Gooch and Little were separated by 80 votes -- 6,794 for Little and 6,714 for Gooch. There are at most 25 Republican provisional ballots left in Monmouth County, where they are expected to be counted Monday, according to Little campaign manager Leigh-Ann Bellew. Provisional ballots in Middlesex County were counted today, giving four additional votes to Little and two to Gooch.

Frank Pallone has long won with little trouble in a district that is solidly but securely DemocRAT, so whoever wins the nomination has an outside chance. Still, the primary became very spirited.

I'm sure you meant "not securely" Democrat.

Gooch and Little combined to get more primary votes than Pallone (the only Democrat on the ballot). Hopefully that's a good sign for November. (The same GOP advanrage could be found in the NJ-03 (Adler's seat) and NJ-12 (Rush Holt's seat) as well.)

I hope that Little can hold on to her lead in the recount: Gooch appears to be a complete RINO.

I need to type slower, I’ve been making mistakes like that a lot (remember Ken Norton instead of Buck). The past two weeks haev been very stressful.

Normally, this seat would be a yawner, but 2010 is no normal year, not even in New Jersey.

It's not so secure anymore.

The district voted for Kerry and Obama and Corzine the first time, but for Christie last time.

Pallone will have to work for his seat this November.

I meant “not securely,” that was a type on may part. I think the race could be winnable, if the eventual Repulican nominee (whoever she turns out to be) has enough funding.
