This is absolutely absurd. An the Oaks Apartments complex in Albany Oregan has told its residents that they cannot fly or display the American flag on its premises.

Its absolutely ridiculous. I’d buy flag tee shirts, jackets and everything else and spend a lot of time outside.

Our flag symbolizes problems? It’s easy to see this guy is a liberal. He wouldn’t stop me.

If another member of this “diverse” community chose to display a Hamas/Palestinian flag, would the same management see fit to object on similar grounds? Of course they wouldn’t - because the Progressive paradigm of oppressors and victims is what is at work here, and with it is dictated the preferred treatment of the symbols of each. To the Left, America is always the oppressor and its symbols are treated accordingly. This fact also explains the purposeful alteration of American symbols in forms such as last year’s faux Obama “Presidential seal”, and the red-white-and-blue Obama logo, both of which one assumes would be welcome displays in any suitably “diverse” neighborhood.

They’d be in for a real fight if I were there. Love it or leave it. Better dead than red.

Given that Oregan isn't part of the United States, I don't see a problem here .

Yes, acts of displaying patriotism are increasingly being viewed as “offending to someone.”

How much ludicrous and political correct can we get?
Frakin unreal.....

It all depends if rental agreement states it..BUT the one that really bothered me aside from the “diverse community” crap was the fact the American flag was on a vehicle..not on the property.

What is it going to take to get these progressives out of our country?

Only one thing but nobody likes or wants to admit the answer.

I’d join hundreds of others who might want to flag up their cars and their persons and picket outside the complex carrying the American flag. I’m not sure the ban is even legal. The complex has no business dictating the appearance of cars which are not theirs. If guests are allowed, they can not stop guests from flag displays on their autos.

I read the local story. The apt. mgr. said that “someone might get offended.” I would think that anyone offended by an AMERICAN flag on AMERICAN soil, is just the sort of person you’d want to go our of your way to offend.

"If another member of this “diverse” community chose to display a Hamas/Palestinian flag, would the same management see fit to object on similar grounds? Of course they wouldn’t"

Yes, I'm betting they would. I'm on the board of my homeowner's association and we've had to deal with issue in the past.

No one has anything against the American flag. It's a matter of having to come up with a consistent policy. When some guy wants to hang his LSU or Ohio State flag outside his unit, the board has to be able to tell him to take it down.

But then that leads to a blanket prohibition on all flags on the exterior.

I'm not convinced anyone here really believes they are only banning American flags (if I'm wrong, I'll gladly concede the point). This seems like a bit of faux indignation to me.

I understand that the apartment complex revoked its policy against the American flag. As for those who find our flag offensive,

I offend a few neighbors daily with my front porch flag. It’s not even huge yet they scowl when they see it (and me). My car offends them as well because not only is there an American flag sticker, I’ve also got the Dont Tread on Me — Gadsden flag oval sticker.

These people are all far left Dems — not old style Dems who are not offended by the flag. Of course this is a ‘burb of ‘Hollywood’ and many have ‘industry’ jobs and/or are gay on top of that.

I inherited the house which is why I must stay for a couple of years for tax reasons. Bet these people can’t wait for me to sell and leave. One thing for sure, I won’t be going to Oregon!

The American flag has a very different meaning than any other symbol in this nation; it is the very symbol of our nation. Its public display, official or otherwise, is both ubiquitous and unique.

If a homeowner's association seeks to ban the public display of all symbols on property covered under the terms of their covenant, that is within their rights; whether that right can be made to extend to the incidental property of a building owner (such as a motor vehicle) is problematic.

In any case, I would sooner live in a mud hut in the wilderness than ever agree to be bound by a homeowner's association, but that's my own choice.

Oregon lost its soul when they made Portland's Wattles into a Hooters. The entire strip along I-5 from there, where it crosses into Oregon from Vancouver, Washington, to Eugene, which includes Albany where this incident occurred, has become a marxist collective. Eugene in particular is one of the looniest towns in the U.S.

The rest of Oregon is relatively sane, however, although a poster at a similar thread at Gateway Pundit informs me that the looniness has crept out from Eugene to Newport on the coast.

I know what you mean. I live north of you in WA and we have the same problem. The "West Side" is Liberal loopy, the "East Side" is sane. Unfortunately, though, for both states the West Side contains most of the population and dominates politics in both states.

For those who are wondering, the east-west dividing line is the Cascade Mountains. For us on the west it's Seattle and environs, while Oregon has Portland, Eugene, and places like this Albany. Cross over the Cascades to the east and the topography and politics change dramatically. Spokane, for example, is considered rather conservative.
