Indian Wells, CA -- Greetings from the California Republican Convention, where we've already made a tactical error: We forgot to eat before the speeches. Do you know what the sound of 900 Republicans chewing sounds like?
For all intents and purposes, this weekend is the kickoff for the 2010 campaign season and all the major statewide candidates are here. (Save for US Senate hopeful Carly Fiorina, who is undergoing her final two weeks of radiation therapy to treat breast cancer.)
The next 40 hours are all about kissing up to the hardcore activists here. But before the smooches were planted, we started with a look back via a bit of a tail-between-his legs speech from Gov. Schwarzenegger.
Not a lot of love in this room when he walked in. Conservative Republicans think he's spent too much time cuddling with Democrats over the past couple of years. Sheesh. I've heard more feverish applause at a PTA meeting.
Even his jokes fell flat. Hey, it's great to be in Indian Wells, the Guv opened with, where they have the most millionaires of any place in the country, "The only problem is that they used to be billionaires."
Ba-dump-pa. Economy jokes? In this economy?
The 20-minute speech was a mishmash. Part of it was an olive branch to conservatives: "I know through these crises, we didn't see eye to eye with every issue." But he insisted he didn't get along with Democrats, either. Like Mah-ree-ahh. "I have spent a lot of nights sleeping in my garage." (Ba-dump-pa.)

(Benedict) Arnold should have run as a Democrat. He still would have one, and he wouldn’t have to be living a lie.
I couldn’t get there. Such a small group—900?
I feel like Maria shriver has influenced him a lot I for once think he has little knowledge about politics and listened to her stupid views on welfare and social justice for the immigrants.
Maybe Arnold is dyslexic: hey Ahnold it read “Republicans” NOT ‘RINO’ Party.
Arnie ain’t smart enough to hold a realm of larger, conservative idea and then act in accordance with that plan issue to issue; action to action. He is like a ping pong ball swinging about with the mood of his wifey in any given moment. He is even too stupid to be able to blend the socialism of his wifey with the conservative wisdom of his party like a good Rino would do. We are talking dumb here.
