45% of doctors would quit over public health care
Patriot Room ^ | 2009-09-15 | Robert

An IBD/TIPP poll found that two out of three physicians oppose the overhaul plan that congress is working on.

The kicker though is that hundreds of thousands would consider closing their doors or retire early if the plan were to pass. In 2006 there were some 800,000 doctors. 45% would be about 360,000. Scary huh?

I’ve heard said the AMA represents approx a third of doctors.

33% isn't 100% where I come from, and I doubt it is where you come from, either. But in "Loony Land", one might suppose that it is...

Many physicians, including myself, will go to a cash only practice and not have to be bothered with insurance, medicare/medicaid billings, and the associated overhead costs. In fact, many such practices, and concierge medicine, already exist everywhere, and probably will become the norm. We will give up our hospital privileges and perform our exams and procedures at our clinics or at the outpatient surgical centers for cash. It’s already happening. Many opthalmologists, ENT’s, plastic surgeons, OMFS, orthopedic surgeons, urologists, dermatologists, and general surgeons no longer come to the hospital at all. If a case is too complex or the patient too critical, they get sent to the ER for the on call folks to take care of. EMTALA is already an unfunded mandate and it’s about to get worse.

As stated by many, the AMA does not speak for anyone except a small amount of adminsitrators. A very small amount of docs belong to the AMA, and for those who do pay their dues, there’s hardly a concensus about what they do or don’t “stand for”.

I’ve said it many times, and this notion hasnt taken any traction yet, but it will become evident soon, and that is this: Doctors, hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, pharmacies...basically anyone who is in the business of dlivering health care stay in business because of private insurance payments. These contracts are negotiated and are a neccessary element for businesses to stay solvent.
Once a public health care option becomes available, then all the delivery systems...all the doc’s offices, clinics, hospitals etc will bleed and eventually go bankrupt.
Private insurance subsidizes the huge losses that the docs clinics take on caring for Meidcare and Medicaid.
Once that subsidy evaporates and the public sector grows, profitability will be impossible.

A public option will bankrupt all the delivery systems.
Its not if, but when.

This is economic sabbotage and hostile takeover.

I have already told the AARP to pack sand on me being a member due to their position.

The AMA is basically a publishing firm with a hefty government contract to administer the CPT Code System, by updating the codes and re-publishing them every year, and then selling copies to every doctor, hospital, etc, in the country. The gov’t contract to manage the Medicare/caid codes was to bring them on board, so to speak, in the great Collectivist concept...the group doesn’t really have much to do with professional medicine.

Try to find a doctor who accepts Medicare. Seems the only docs who do in our neck of the woods take it from their long term patients who have grown old.

The AMA speaks for physicians just like AARP speaks for senior citizens.

I’ve said this over and over. The unintended consequences of socialized medicine will be the mass exit of physicians who are already fed up with paperwork and faceless numbskulls dictating what they get paid and what they can do. I for one am already getting ready. Like your brother in law I have paid off all debts and have decided I can live on what I have put aside and my USAF pension. Its now up to the totalitarians in congress and senate. I figure I have another 2 years and I am ready to exit but if provoked I can leave earlier.

yeah, at my age I am NOT changing doctors anytime soon. or maybe I should find a younger doc who won’t be able to retire if obamacare gets passed.

Not to worry; there’s a socialist solution for every problem.

If there aren’t enough doctors, they’ll just begin mandatory end-of-life counseling for everyone over the age of 50.

Problem solved.

I think you’ll see a proliferation of clinics opening along the Mexican border, or in the Bahamas.

Already a lot of people cross over going to clinics on the Mexican side. You’ll see a lot more of it, but spreading to places people with money would rather be like the Caribbean.

You’ll see more people leaving the country for treatment. Paying cash, in countries where the cash will go farther. Already there are people who fly to India for treatment, or Brazil. You’ll see more of it.

A lot of people think they want what O’s selling, but they don’t want to be subjected to it themselves.

and even when there isn't a problem one will be invented to justify the solution.

“No worries...I’m sure ACORN can pick up the slack...”

Yeah, instead of “barefoot doctors” like China had, we’ll have “doctors in $200 sneakers.”

I know people in the medical field and I think the number is higher. Not good with the influx of patients expected in the coming years.
