There has been some Internet chatter and small amounts of media attention on having a national referendum on health care. It was brought up at a very spirited Town Hall meeting with Senator Arlen Specter this week. One of the participants said to him that the issue should be decided the old fashioned way...by majority rule. "We'll tell you if we like your plan. Hows that work?" Specter, being the "career" politician, (and turn-coat), that he is was quick to answer, "Well, that's a fascinating idea to have a referendum," he said, "Well, that's one of the ideas I'm going to take back to Washington, a referendum." Yes-sir-ree... a referendum, well that about wraps up this meeting, thanks for coming. I'm outta here.
There will be no referendum on health care reform. In case anyone has forgotten it has been decreed by the Great Obama that America will have a National Health Care Plan. This is the most important item in his domestic agenda and he will exercise all his Presidential powers as well as a little "Chicago-style politicking" to get his way.
As long as the polls are tilted against him the subject on majority rules is out. A Rasmussen survey released Tuesday showed public support for the Democrats' plan had dropped to a new low, with 42 percent of voters in favor of it. Meanwhile, 53 percent were opposed. This is the reason they are on the attack during the break. They need to stop the dropping numbers of support and swing them around, back in their favor before the fall session of Congress resumes.
Besides, a national referendum on the voting ballot has never really been done, that's usually what the elections of our officials is about and there are a lot of Democrats already sweating 2010. Even if one were to be put forth, with the Democrats controlling both Houses it would be skewed their way no matter what the polls said. The public would go back to being outraged and once again the minority opinion takes precedence over the majority.
Yes-sir-ree... a referendum...good idea, can't wait to get back to Washington with that one.....

Our constitution in specific, and the Federalist Republic form of government in general do not support the process of referendums. Rights cannot be abolished and unconstitutional actions cannot be approved by a majority vote.
Sorry, but my liberty CANNOT BE TAKEN AWAY by a national referendum! We do not live in a democracy, but in a Constitutional Republic. That means the Constitution governs what our elected officials are permitted to do. Or at least, it’s SUPPOSED TO!
tell that to all the twenty-something dweebs out there who think we can govern ourselves by putting all issues to a real-time online vote using Twitter
Bad idea. Who will sit at the polls. ACORN?
NO!
Acorn will stack the vote with fraud and illegals voting.
Sure. At the voting booths in 2010 and 2012.
