CA: Gubernatorial candidate Whitman says she can rescue struggling GOP [total Romneybot]

Meg Whitman, an early front-runner in the race for the 2010 Republican nomination for California governor, told a lunchtime crowd Friday in Ventura that she can be the candidate to rescue the California Republican Party from irrelevance and the state itself from near bankruptcy.

“In business terms, we would say the Republican Party is losing share at an alarming rate,” said Whitman, a veteran executive who was CEO of eBay for 10 years. Republicans make up just 31 percent of the state’s registered voters, trailing Democrats by 14 percentage points, she said.

“We’re going to have to include groups that have not felt welcome in the Republican Party for a long time: Latinos, women and 18-to-29-year-olds,” Whitman said. “We can build a grass-roots coalition around those three groups.”

To save the state, Whitman outlined a three-pronged approach: create jobs by cutting taxes and streamlining regulations; balance the budget by cutting spending; and reform public education through greater accountability, more charter schools and better pay for the best teachers.

. . . . .

Whitman, 53, has been active in politics since she stepped down as eBay’s CEO in 2007. She was an adviser to Mitt Romney in his presidential primary campaign, and after he dropped out, she joined John McCain’s campaign team.

Romney, she said, has been one of her mentors in business and politics. When she first moved to San Francisco in 1979 just out of Harvard Business School, she worked for Romney’s company, Bain Capital.

. . . . .

She is fiscally conservative and socially moderate, a supporter of abortion rights and civil unions but not marriage for same-sex couples.

Poor California.

The state keeps suffering under liberal Democrats, total RINOs, and Romneybots.

Americans need to quite voting for these lite-socialists and return to the values that built this Nation and made her great!

Still no addressing of the elephant in the room. Until illegal aliens are excluded from all public services and immediately turned over to federal authorities, then it really doesn’t matter who’s wins in 2010. Whitman is just Arnold in a skirt, and she’s no match for the powerful interest groups sucking on the state breast. Newsome will win in a landslide, and shortly thereafter the state will either become a satellite province of Mexico or be destroyed by the Big One.

Look, when one lives here in SOCAL, one knows that Pubs are an endangered species. All this malarky about getting a real conser to beat a lib in Ca. in nonsense. There just are not enough of us to win a seat almost anywhere and especially in NoCAL. Hispanics are fleeing the Party and Indies may be the only way with Reagan Dems to win a state-wide birth. So while I empathize with all the RINO stuff, in CA. we are lucky to have a Pub win anything. Ca. is simply doomed because safe seats make Dems a majority here until Jesus comes. So stop the blather about ‘we need Barry Goldwater’ or someone like him in his early days. He wouldn’t win a dogcatchers’ job here. This state is in a Mafia like grip of leftists. If a Pub can win any seat, hats off to him or her, including this dame Whitman.

She sounds like she’s got a great approach. I’m a pro business guy like Romney for improving the economy through private investment.

For what it’s worth, the specific points she makes in the speech are correct, except for calling on all non-Hispanic males over 30 to get out of the party, that is.

we are lucky to have a Pub win anything.

Not in Arnold's case. When he's called a RINO it is meant in the literal sense. He's done no good at all. Just put a GOP face on liberal Kennedy polices and absolving the democrats from the 100% blame they deserve for the polices that are destroying your state.

I'm not demanding a Sarah Palin conservative for Cali but they must be right of center and govern in a competent manner or else electing them is pointless. There is a HUGE difference between that and Arnold who has governed like a moderate (for moonbat Cali) democrat, I doubt Diane Feinstein would be any worse if she was Governor. Picking between Arnold and Gray Davis is like picking which venereal disease you want.

I hope Whitman is appreciably better than Arnold. Most people don't think she is unfortunately, they say she's the Kindergarten Cop in a skirt. Having Romney who was also a terrible Governor as a role model is an awful sign.

A Sarah Palin type is exactly what CA needs (to the point, it needs McClintock).

Um...

Ok...

Guess you missed the whole RomneyCare thing...

It was in all the papers....

Given that your statement is kinda like the Coroner saying “except for the massive bullet hole right through the heart, the victim would have survived...”

I'm glad you like the papers for where you get your news. The Boston Globe and NY Times are your speed I have no doubt.

I'll take private insurance over what Obama is pushing any day.

Same old, same old. The same schtick with a new talking face mouthing the words.

Actually it's Romney's own words, the legislation itself and the MA state web sites I reference when I look at RomneyCare.

That “where you get your news” schtick has been a wee bit over used here when defending Romney. It's a good one considering the state of modern journalism, but all stories have some truth in them, and quotes cannot be spun if you stick to the words between the quotation marks..

Cost overruns are not “news source specific” and the legislation itself as written is troubling in the extreme. The mandates alone should be problematic to any “business man”

The old canard being used by Romney folks on FR that the “democrats ruined it” has now been officially shot down by Romney's giving the Program an “A” last month and talking about how it could help the whole nation.

Is RomneyCare better than ObamaCare? Hard call, perhaps it is, of course succumbing to a massive coronary maybe better than a slow lingering death from Cancer, but the end result is the same.

Personally I, and many others here, prefer neither...

I don't care at this point....we need a Pub governor in as many states as possible...this endless line of elderly, senile Rats are going to start dropping one of these days and we need some semblance of Pub to replace them....

folks....we can never elect a RAt....a rat is worse than a lousey Pub anyday....

yes we do....in the meantime, while we find our courage and our character once again as a nation, we must elect as many Pubs as possible, hopefully the right ones....

no more rats, never ever.....we must never elect them by not voting for the Pub, which happens all the time...
